The only thing I was worried about is Harrison falling in the footsteps of all the "this guy has so much potential" OL prospects we've dug up and put on the team. I just didn't want the QB to get annihilated because we stuck a guy out there that doesn't belong.
I saw enough that I don't have quite so much fear anymore. Harrison DOES appear to have all the potential in the world and looks like a pretty sure bet to be our LT of the future... at least, he looks better than all the other long shots we've tried... and there are really no other options right now.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
How did Harrison look versus the Saints? I missed the game.
to me, he looked MUCH better .. no penalties, clean pocket most of the game
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

And the more difficult part of the schedule takes a quick break, for now. The Jets and Raiders before he'll be tasked with the Ravens and Chargers. All NFL players pose a challenge, but they don't boast premier pass rushers.
Hopefully it helps his continued transition as he gets another two weeks of solid play under his belt.
It's exciting. Him being named the starter was unexpected, but he's more than held his own. Looks good.

The Browns should hire JT to work with this kid a few hours a day for 2-3 days a week. I think the kid has the athleticism to be an elite LT he just needs the technique and polishing.
He needs to get stronger ... and this is not a complaint ... hes holding his own so far ..
I just re-watched and focused on him and Collins ( i deleted my recording like a dumb ass .. not sure whey either ... so i had to watch it on quick bits through the ticket .. all they show is the plays ... i have to watch it on my computer now so its a pain to rewind .. )
Harrison has really good feet ... thats his strenght IMO ... i can’t comment on technique or the technical stuff ... i dont know diddly about that ... hopefully Vers breaks him down for us soon ... i asked him to last week ... he said he wanted to wait a few more weeks ... can’t wait to hear his breakdown ... hopefully he does it after this weeks game ... if not definetly after week 4 i would imagine ...
He needs to get stronger ... when they bull rush him they get a great push and get in TT’s lap very fast ... so far its not been an issue ...
On run Kay’s he’d get into the defender fairly easily but the defender more times than not had no problem “sliding” off him .. they’d put there shoulder underneath his and that “released” them .. horrible explanation but its all i got .. *L* .. man .. i stink at this ..
He sealed well IMO .. again ... i’m Basically a novice with this stuff ... all i know is when he was called on to seal .. he got between his man and the ball carrier like he’s suppose to ...
Dudes got the feet to be decent ... lets hope he bulks up, works hard and get some help from Joe or anyone else that knows what there doing ...

I honestly think that we offered Joe a job already. I don't think Joe lives in the Land anyway.
first thing I noticed about Harrison: man, what an athlete. His feet are incredible, his punch is incredible ... he glides and makes it looks effortless.
His upside is very apparent IMO

There would be no better of a teacher.
Then perhaps the offseason, then? The guy has all the tools, and is a wet lump of clay.

Five minutes a week, over Skype or some other video conferencing, with Joe imo would be incredibly helpful. Anything would, JT is a Master Jedi.

This made me think of the one video Joe did explaining hand technique and how most Tackles, even in the NFL, are taught incorrect hand placement as well as how he talks about wanting the opponents hip to be your target in run blocks.
::goes to find the video::
Here it is; a film session with Baldy
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
So, something to look at if you still have access to the film, is see what you can see of his hand placement on those plays where the defender is able to "slide" off. I'm going to bet that Harrison's hand is inside of the shoulder on those plays.

That was an awesome video. I love that kind of stuff.
If anyone wants to watch it more than once, I would like for you to look at two things that Joe and Baldy didn't really talk about too much.
1. In the initial segment where they are discussing Combo blocking, he talks about how important angles are. How do you achieve that? Take a look at his feet. He takes the lead foot and goes at about a 45 degree angle towards his target. That will fluctuate depending on where the guy lines up, but that is the basic premise. Notice how his toes point toward the target w/first his right foot because he is moving in that direction. After he hits that guy, he then makes the same step w/his left foot to get him to the second level where he engages the linebacker. The footwork is very important.
2. You can see this next one throughout, but it is easy to recognize in the last segment that is about bull rushing. Many of you have probably saw me talking about keeping your chest over your thighs when blocking. That gives you a great center of gravity. It allows you to get lower than the other dude. It provides good balance. Take a look and you can see how Joe does this consistently. It also puts you in a power position where you can thrust upwards and deliver a good shot at your opponent. Some of you lift weights and/or have watched the Clean and Jerk Olympic weightlifting events. Envision how often the chest is over the thighs in such an event. Balance and power.

Through the entire lift, if you do it right. A strong lift, or a strong punch for a lineman, comes from the legs and hips. ALL power starts in the legs and hips. If you get those wrong, you're missing out on a lot of power and explosiveness.

I’ll watch it again ... thanks for the what to watch for ... learning good ...
Just curious ... u think your gonna break down Harrison for us after this game or after week 4 ... please don’t tell me we have to wait longer than that ... please ... *L* ...
Good stuff guys, thanks for the vid and the commentary. I'm trying to be less one dimensional in how I view the game. Stuff like that is a big help.
There is so much that goes on "in the trenches" that most people don't understand, I always attributed success to size and sheer power. Listening to Joe, it's evident that what most people would simply consider "nuances" are more important than size and strength.
That said, JT does a fantastic job of explaining things, I could easily see him taking a few years off and then getting into the coaching aspect - on his terms. Hope he stays close to the organization.
John 3:16 Jesus said "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
WOW ... HOLY CRAP .. just re-watched our game .... not all of it ... i didn’t really wanna watch the last 8 minutes so i decided it was a good time to come post ... *L* ...
Purp ... thank u so so much for that video ... even though i said i didnt know diddly about this stuff ... HOLY CRAP ... i rally had no idea how CLUELESS i actually was ... *L* ....
OH CRAP ... *L* ... u asked me to watch to see if the “slide offs” were cause of technique and i was so excited watching other stuff i completely forgot ... sorry Purp ... now i feel bad .... i’ll Go re-watch it later to focus on what u asked .... sometimes Diam I just wanna .... *L*
It was so cool and eye opening watching his technique .... first play i noticed where his hands went ... and i was like a kid in a candy store with my ear to ear smile knowing what i’d Just LEARNED and then seeing it and understanding it ...
I been up since 3:30 and was up til midnight ... I used to many brain cells in my post trying to shine a different light on our HC so i’ll Post more later after my nap ... i’m Gonna need one this afternoon ... *L* ...
I’ll say this ... obviously no ones ever gonna be Joe technique wise .. not sure anyone has ever been the technician he was ....
Harrison has very little to no technique yet he still managed to get the job done ... we oughta pay Joe whatever he wants to let this kid come live with him or rent the kid a place whereever Joe is for the offseason and have Joe work with him ...
If this kid ever learns technique WATCH THE HELL OUT ... right now he appears to have no clue other than the hand placement on pass rushers ...
I focused on MG when they had the ball .. when i go re-watch it I’m gonna focus on Peat when they have the ball ,, i knew he was good .. but man .. HE’S REALLY REALLY GOOD ... and i wanna put what i learned to good use ...
VERS
You’ve been using the “chest/hips” analogy from the very first time u spoke about tackle play ... i’ve Used it many times in discussions with my friends ... i’ve Never given u credit ... hope your OK with that ... *L* ...
Thanks for sharing what to watch for ... good stuff as usual ...
Now I really can’t wait for your break down of him ... i know i’ll LEARN but at the same time .. i can gauge how much i actually learned by what u say and what i thought ...
Just watched he clip someone posted in the Baker Mayfield thread, and really concentrated on watching Harrison. He looked really good. He moves smoothly and seems light on his feet. Always seemed to maintain a good base. I’m liking this kid.

It might well suck, and it might get to sad for him. Personally, Believe JT would celebrate either way we succeeded. I think we could find him a few tickets LOLetc.
Or. . . he might just go fishin'.
