i swear our draft picks have been so bad, a federal investigation needs to be started for collusion.

Farmer was the worst GM we've ever had. Drafting was horrendous, at least past GMs took a fine tooth comb to the late rounds. He also had horrible player retainment. Him and The Walrus are 1 and 2 on my crap list.

Modell holds Spots #1 and #2 on my crap list. Our drafts have killed us with nonsense aplenty. Thank goodness we had that Draft Day movie to show the reality that is Berea and its war room.

I always hated that draft ... at the time, every pick seemed either odd or over drafted

What this shows is once a team FO and coaching staff are on the same page you need to do all you can to keep them together. As much as the bad picks hurt it also hurt to keep changing directions which led to more changes which led to more failed draft picks. Farmer was real bad as was PF, as was Sashi but Sashi was trying to be bad so I am not sure he was bad????

Man, if only guys like Excel, cfrs, and Memphis could revive some of the Farmer threads like they do when they want to make certain posters look stupid on other subjects. LOL
The point being.............all posters make incorrect evaluations, but only the very petty bring revive them in order to ridicule others.

To ridicule was not my intent..
It's been 3 years. It's fair to judge the 15 draft.

Shelton at the time was considered a good pick. I still think he was a decent player. Not 12th overall, but still a good NT for a 3-4.
Obviously Irving was a terrible pick, as were Orchard, Mayle,.
Duke was the only great pick.

Bitonio, but I'm not going to pretend he'd be a pro bowler if he got drafted by Seattle.

I really thought that Campbell was going to be a beast SS.

Has anyone keyed on Shelton thus far with NE?
I haven't noticed much .. but I did notice they were getting gashed by the Lions last night in the run game

I haven't noticed much .. but I did notice they were getting gashed by the Lions last night in the run game I didn't get to watch any of the game last night but I do know that New England was missing three or four defensive starters. Obviously can't comment on how Shelton did but I'm assuming the injuries had something to do with how bad they were against the run.

I figured Patricia would know how to exploit them ... and they sure did

It had sumptin to do with Patricia and his familiarity with them no doubt ....
It had a lot more to do with the FACT NE has been losing TALENT on the O side of the ball for the last few years ....
Losing Soldjer and Cooks last year were big losses .. they haven’t come close to replacing either of them ...
There OL is pretty bad this year ... they’ve never had big name recievers but they’ve lalways had recievers that were very good at filling their roles ... they don’t have that this year ...
They have Hogan basically trying to play the Edelman role right now ... he’s not that guy ... even last year they had Amandola to fill that spot ... that spot Walker created needs a reciever that is extremely quick in and out of cuts and runs precise routes ... Hogans a straight line speed guy ...
They don’t have a speed guy .. Dorsett’s HORRIBLE ...
There talents gone down on O and when one of those spots is the OL thats bad ... look at Dallas this year ... same situation ... BAD OL (they went from what was IMO one of the best OL’s in the history of the game to REALLY BAD in two seasons ...) ... and they have NO RECIEVERS ...
To be fair there OL will play better when Fredricks (stud center) comes back ... but as of right now they have NO CLUE when that will be ...
NE could be in for a much rougher year than there used to ...
Bill always seems to find away ... not even he can do it w/o TALENT ...

I've read some comments that the Browns felt JG was not in "football shape". Adonis (sp?) shape? Oh yeah...but not football shape. Then tweaks the hammy doing a promo shoot?! Hopefully the last "you can't make this stuff up" moment for the new Browns.

I don't like to derail the thread even more (much less to talk about Gordon), but I literally laughed when I saw Gordon was inactive with the hammy. Let's recap... he injures the hammy, is weird about it on the Saturday, gets traded, says the hammy is magically good to go, and then he's out with the hammy.

Back at the topic at hand. I agree with what CHS said. Farmer has to be one of the worst GMs we ever had. Part of the reason those Sashi years were so terrible is that we we forced to tear the team down to the studs to correct the mistakes from the Farmer era.

I tried to post a breakdown of what I thought of each pick, but I got a weird error message.
I don't really feel like doing the whole thing over again, so I'll just say one thing. The 2015 draft wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. It was overseen by Farmer, who's abortion of a 2016 is, I think, coloring people's view of the 2015 one. We hit on some guys that turned out alright, and we missed on some. Shelton was a hit, he just didn't fit here anymore and was a victim of the constant change (his responsibilities changed quite a bit while he was here). Erving was a disaster here, but I'm struggling to call him a bust anymore. He's a starter on a very good KC offense.

I live in Pats territory and was listening to local sports radio. They said right now the Pats are 30th in run D. I don't think Shelton has helped much. I love my Browns and don't dislike the Pats but when they lose I do enjoy listening to all the crying the fans do. I doubt Pats fans would ever back them through all the losing we've had to endure.

The picks we have made over the years since 99 have been so woeful. I mean outside of OL with Erving being one of the worst but he's starting for a good team. Joe Thomas 1st round, Mack 1st round, Schwartz (2nd round), Bitonio 2nd round. Have been the position group that has been keepers in the NFL.
Some because of Injury, Courtney Brown and KW2 come to mind.
But just from beginning to end were woeful. Skrine, and some UDFA's made it. But pretty bad picking.
Actually Sashi and the analytics weren't as bad as others. And I know its way too soon but man thank Goodness for Dorsey, early or not he had a great first draft year.
Baker very well could be THE ONE! Ward even a blind man can tell the kid is the real deal! Corbett: I'm sure he will become a solid player, hope he really works on being a center. Chubb the kid has game, its RB 4-5 good years. Chad Thomas, ??? his time has not arrived but who knows. Calloway a steal and you can tell he is the real deal, stay clean young man, stay clean! Avery, already paying dividends another steal! Ratley, shows promise still needs to develop more to tell. Simeon Thomas, DB - maybe the kid who got away - he's playing decent for the Seahawks.
I think although much more football but this has to be one of the best draft classes we have ever had!
Thank you John Dorsey, Thank you!
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

Agreed Dawg and I don't think you're being mean. The fans in this area seem to walk around with a sense of entitlement. The Pats, Red Sox and Celtics are the best and can't lose. When they do it's something they did wrong not their opponents being better. I don't know how they are in other cities, Philadelphia comes to mind, but its hard to imagine a worse fan base than Boston.

I always hated the first two picks of this draft. Shelton was a guy that had to come off the field in pass rushing situations and Erving was an offensive linemen with no position. The problem was with where we were drafting, there weren’t many better options.

The new guys didn't have to tear down the 14 accumulated draft picks for the 2018 draft - including six of the first 65 in a QB-rich draft - and oodles of cap room to continue the re-build. The new guys - guys actually qualified to do what they were tasked to do - were handed the opportunity to do what no FO has done since the return. I think they've done quite well so far. I think we may FINALLY be bringing in the type of guys that the coordinators want...refreshing to say the least. I think Sashi and Dorsey BOTH did their 'jobs'. We no longer need what Sashi did/could-do and now need what Dorsey did/does. Now let's hope that Hue can do his part...he's 1-1-1 and the division is in play and the team is energized...great combo there.

I just get confused by some of the rhetoric that gets posted on here sometimes. When Sashi got here, he had plenty of cap space and picks. When Sashi left here we had plenty of cap space and picks. We just had even less talent. I didn't really know maintaining the status quo in terms of cap space and draft picks combined with even less talent was such a miraculous feat.

I understand what you are saying - although I didn't/don't remember the draft picks and cap availability when he came here. However, when Sashi got here, Farmer was the GM and Sashi was the Exec VP/Lawyer. After Farmer flamed out, Sashi became the tie-breaker (2016) in a job he should never have had in the first place. It would be like making Dorsey a lawyer and claiming he failed. Destined to fail.

To a degree we agree. Sashi was never qualified to take on the responsibilities that he was given. I don't blame Sashi for that.
I guess where everyone seems to have an opinion about yet I don't see so clearly is who were actually the people trying to agree that Sashi had to break the tie with?
I mean some say Hue was in that group. But when doing the math, that just doesn't make sense to me. Let's see, he was the HC, the OC and he had the job of talent evaluator, scout and setting up the draft?
Now don't get me wrong, I'm sure Hue had his opinions and some input, but to think that anyone, even Haslam, would put all of that on the shoulders of a guy with a total on one years HC experience? I just can't buy that.
According to that logic, I'm amazed people don't believe he was selling beer in the stands too! I mean why not, he's doing everything else on the team, right!? lmao
You only give people like Parcells that kind of power IMO.
