J/C - Joe has always been humble and would never talk himself up. If Harrison can become half the technician JT was, sky is the limit. He moves so smoothly, the fluidity is astounding. The fact we aren’t bemoaning the cliff like drop off in our LT play is in itself outstanding and yes Kudos to the FO for picking him up and to Hue for making the change. The future is bright. It’s orange.

basically we aren't talking about LT, and thats a good thing...JT was a generational player. We were lucky to have him as long as we did...we got really lucky and Dorsey and the scouts deserve alot of credit of finding this diamond. He may never be JT, but 31 other team don't have a JT either and they get by. I think we are in good shape

I am pleased with Harrison.

I wasn't all that worried about the talent because he played at W Georgia. I knew he was big time Texas recruit, so the talent was there. Other factors kept him from being a top draft pick out of Texas.

No doubt he is still in catch up mode, but he is a guy who might man the position as long as Joe.

So far, so good!

I have to admit that I laughed at that play. Man, he just tossed him aside.

Rookie left tackle Desmond Harrison taking Joe Thomas’ tips on Terrell Suggs

BEREA — Browns undrafted rookie left tackle Desmond Harrison spent part of his Wednesday night jotting down notes as future Hall of Famer Joe Thomas gave him advice over the phone about facing Baltimore Ravens seven-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Terrell Suggs.

“It should be able to help me out a lot and be prepared for things that I don’t see on film,” Harrison said Thursday as the Browns (1-2-1) got ready for Sunday’s home game against the Ravens (3-1).

What Harrison sees is intimidating. Suggs has 128 career sacks, including 18 against the Browns. Thomas, who retired in March after 11 seasons with the Browns, considers Suggs one of the best pass rushers he ever encountered.

“He’s a Hall of Famer,” left guard Joel Bitonio said of Suggs, who has 2.5 of the Ravens’ 10 sacks this season. “He has done a lot of stuff. [He’s the] leader of the defense, leader of their team and it’s going to be a big test, I think [Harrison’s] biggest test of the year.”

Harrison got off to a shaky start when he committed three penalties and surrendered a sack to defensive end Cameron Heyward on Sept. 9 in a season-opening 21-21 tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s shown dramatic improvement since. Harrison said he has only given up one sack through the first four games.

“He has gotten better every game [with] what he has done from a communications standpoint, showing discipline, eliminating some of the penalties — knock on wood — demeanor on the sideline,” offensive coordinator Todd Haley said. ”... This will be a big, big test for him. We have to do everything we can to help him when we can without disrupting everything we’re trying to get done. I have confidence in the kid. He has been an exciting young player to watch.”

Harrison said learning the playbook has been the biggest challenge for him, and he’s constantly working on it with the help of tutoring from offensive quality control coach Brian Braswell.

“He’s improved a lot,” Bitonio said. “The first game, I think I was telling him every play.

“He’s played in two pretty rowdy environments now, and his MAs [missed assignments] have gone way down.”

If Harrison can master the mental side of the game and get stronger so he’s better suited to handle power moves, perhaps the Browns will eventually conclude they’ve found their long-term replacement for Thomas.

“I don’t think you’re going to see someone beat him with speed around the edge ever,” Bitonio said. “He can get out and he can move. It’s really impressive to see. Once he can get that power and understand that, that’s when he’s going to take it to the next level. But he’s done a good job these first four weeks of really improving and working his sets. Our coaches have worked with him a lot trying to get him to understand the playbook.”

It's amazing that he was that unprepared in his first start and was even that effective ... and how much he's improved since

Early returns are good

I haven't had a chance to review the game with my eye on Harrison, but my first impression is that he did a good job against Suggs today. He had a hold, and Suggs did get some pressure on Mayfield, but overall, I think he did well against one of the game's best.

there was one sack that was technically on Des, but it was a coverage sack and baker held the ball too long.

He passed another test today. He didn't win every snap but he was solid again. Just imagine what he'll be like as he gets more game experience.

here's his next 4 test:

Chargers: Melvin Ingram

Bucs: JPP

Steelers: Casey Heyward/TJ Watt

Chiefs: Allen Bailey/Dee Ford

He's done fine so far. I don't see that changing.

Perfect? Nope. But he's done just fine. Probably better than most though he'd do.

I haven't charted his progress so far but he has definitely had progress. I don't think he'll suddenly fall off a cliff over the next month.

Let’s give this guy more love!

When you are the guy replacing arguably the best LT who’s ever played the position, and people are saying you are looking pretty good, you are looking damn good.

We were all expecting a train wreck, be honest. He’s shown up and been a steady, solid player, and a God-send where we were anticipating a human turnstile.

Ok, maybe not a human turnstile, but you get my drift.

Six weeks ago, Bitonio was our LT and Harrison wasn't high on our radar.

Couldn’t agree more. Harrison's surprising emergence as a rookie UDFA LT (and his high ceiling, based on how the coaches & his teammates talk about the kid) has been nothing short of amazing

Can you imagine if we had S Coleman playing LT for Baker & the boys right now instead of Harrison? Lmao

Harrison should definitely be getting more love IMHO

The kid is getting better with every week in the NFL. I cannot believe we are getting this kind of Quality starts from a UDFA rookie LT, that just is not where they come from.

Thank you ONCE AGAIN Dorsey, amazing pick up.

Also PROPS to HUE as it was his call to make the move from Bitonio to Harrison with Bitonio going back to his LG position and now making this line Better and Better each weak.

Harrison - Gitonio - Tretter - Zeitler - Hubbard

Turning into an excellent OL also props out to Wilie a pretty darn good OL coach...got to love the guy!

As I like to say “Everything affects everything.” DH being solid affects how Joe B plays, Baker affects how DH plays by his quickness. Etc.

If Corbett can develop and replace Zeitler, then we just need to upgrade RT and this will be a stud OL.

Right now, we give up WAY too much pressure from RG & RT.

PFF, before the Ravens game, had Zeitler as one the best pass pro guards in the league. I think Hubbard is the weak link on the line and that’s not a horrible problem to have.

I find that truly shocking, but I'll take their word for it and accept that what I've been seeing isn't coming from him.... but, then it doubly emphasizes that Hubbard needs to be upgraded, and also makes it that much tougher for Corbett to break into the lineup (which is another good problem to have).

If I was a betting man ... I would put my chips on OC, as to Corbett's landing spot across the OL.

Hubbard is a below average RT, but not all together a train wreck either.

Harrison's play should at the very least place him on the all rookie team.

Is there a better rookie LT playing this season? Or are my lenses too orange thumbsup

His emergence as a starting LT may be the most important upgrade to our team because it is giving our QB time to throw and not get happy feet.

I see Corbett replacing Tretter sooner than I see him replacing Zeitler. The cap hit is much smaller.

The idea of returning talent next year should make our fans giddy. Win some more games, find a kicker, BM with a year under his belt. That is tasty in itself, but if Dorsey helps more, wow! Just bloody wow!

I came back to the board today after a looong hiatus just to see if there was any chatter about Harrison. I was telling a friend yesterday that perhaps the biggest surprise of the year so far (to me) has been the fact that we’re really not talking about OL woes and the LT position specifically. Before the season began, I would have put very good money on this being among the biggest topics of discussion among browns fans with lots of threads with lists of next year’s crop of OTs and FAs. We just don’t get lucky like this. Its not a perfect solution but man, there are about 25 teams that would trade serious value for him right now. Not that we’re trading.
