I agree, but I can tell you that sooner or later, people are going to tune out the NFL as these rules are making it a shell of a game it was. And when the XFL starts again - and someone actually tries to compete, you may see a lot of lost income.

I dunno. The NFL is thriving and making more money than ever before.

IMO, I think fantasy sports have a lot to do with it. If it wasn't for fantasy, the NFL might have started to fade... but I think a lot of people tune in to see if they've won that million dollars on Fan Duel.

Here is another issue I have with these QB rules...As mentioned before...these rule changes were made due to knee-jerk reactions to a star getting hurt. Much like the horse-collar when TO got hurt. Brady went down as did Rodgers....

OK so lets protect the QB...Brady And Brees play into into their 50's...Marketing is ecstatic...EXCEPT...we never get to see the "NEW" Tom Brady....

Tom Brady got his foothold into the game because Drew Bledsoe got hurt. If that did not happen...Bledsoe would have played for a while and who knows when Brady would have gotten to play...or even IF Brady would EVER have gotten to play...

Kurt Warner got his chance to play because Trent Green got hurt. No way does he ever see the field as a former grocery bagger and Arena League QB.

Nick Foles became a household name last year when Wentz got hurt...Case Keenum...same thing. Kirk Cousins...last years biggest FA got his start subbing for an injured RGIII

Heck even Baker Mayfield got his chance to shine Thursday because Tyrod Taylor was injured. Sure it could be argued that he might have been put in due to Tyrod's numbers...But That is speculation, and the fact is, Tyrod was injured and it provided Baker his shot.

Injuries are a part of the game...in fact it is part of the appeal of the game. We all want to see and admire the tough players. We aspire to have that toughness. Not anyone can play this game at this level. Steve Young goes helmetless and completes a crazy first down....toughness...Ronnie Lott has the medical staff cut the tip of his finger off to get back into the game....toughness...QB's stand in the pocket...take the big hit and make the throw...toughness...In fact, that not only inspires us...but inspires their teammates. Who is inspired by the QB surviving a hangnail because the DE swiped at the ball??? It is the sense of danger and the act of facing it, persevering through it, and conquering it that draws us to this game. Not a 20 touchdown game shootout. I did not see 100,000 people fill the stands for the Flag Football Season that we just had.

No one "wants" to see someone get hurt. And every football player knows it is not a matter of if, but when they will get hurt. There are things we can do to reduce the frequency of these injuries. But we have to be careful not to change what the game is. And we definitely should NOT be making decisions based off of Marketing wanting more points in a game.

I have been saying this to everyone. Put a light padded helmet on the player. That will take out the missle that is the helmet and in the end will lead to tackling different.
I know that sounds stupid but we have other sports that will say different.

One thing is most certain... if the NFL continues on this route - soccer will be a lot more fun to watch.

Ugh. I would rather watch paint dry than watch soccer.

I felt the same way til my nephews started playing it ... its taken 4 or 5 years but now i really enjoy the game ...

What if guys like MACK, Watt, Clowney, Mathews start saying I CAN'T PLAY FOOTBALL THIS WAY.

Something else to think about...what if the defensive players around the league just say you know what, I'm gonna strike and not play till the league fixes the issue.

I think the reasons for these rules are two fold. We have seen how they have cracked down on DB's. We also see how much they're protecting the QB's.

I do agree that protecting these QB's is a matter of protecting NFL assets.

Yet I believe there's also another reason. Football is watched by a lot of different people from all walks of life. A lot of us are long time fans. We understand the strategy on both sides of the ball. Some fans, including myself love a great defensive performance as much as we love seeing a ton of points put on the board.

But that's not what I think the casual fan is looking for and neither does the NFL. They feel each team putting up a ton of points in an aerial display is more flashy and exciting for much of their fan base. And they're probably right.

So to help make that happen, they've hamstrung defenses any way they can think of to help promote the outcome they wish to achieve.

it seems that way, but viewership is down. That is a fact. Money still pouring in yes, but as viewership drops, the dollars will drop as well - its supply and demand.

Some folks have seen fines as costs of doing business. Some guys are not deterred by money penalties. This is really making this tougher to play D. I do believe that the NFL is changing too far IMO. From Hank being gone to a laughably bad Sunday night ballad is a wrong step for me. The tackling and kickoff and QB rules are reasons for lesser viewing. The catch stuff and PI rules are a joke as much as holding. I think declining viewers are part of the fallout from the NFL. I used to love the game, but differently. I expect in a few years PATs will be from the 50. Silly stuff.

What I notice more than the equipment being the same, is players wearing less protection. No knee pads, because they want to look better. Many wear no thigh pads. Arm pads and neck rolls are a thing of the past. Many won't even wear long sleeves in the winter, because they think it looks tough. Keeping muscles warm can help protect against injury.

The whole concussion thing is a money grab by the players union, thus forcing the league to insist on rules that are hard to enforce. As much as the league knew concussions were happening, so did the players. Still many lead with their head to this day. The players union found a way to get ahold of some of the money the owners were making, and a bunch of lawyers got rich.

Actually the market share is up. Television viewing may have dropped across the board, but those who still watch TV, a higher percentage are watching the NFL, which is really all that matters and means more and more money for the NFL.

Unfortunately, bring on the FLAG BELTS...

I'm still laughing at the typo in the title calling it the "Completion" committee.

Very fitting being that this is all they care about - protecting their precious QB's and letting them rack up crazy completion numbers.

Until they tell the Ref and the umpire to ease up on the safety side of it ... there gonna throw the flag cause that won’t get them in trouble ...

I said i believe there gonna talk to the officials and tell them to ease up a bit and there not going to get graded harshly if they miss some .... we’ll never hear about that ....

WE’LL KNOW BY HOW THE OFFICIALS ENFORCE IT STARTING TONIGHT ...

Its gonna be a “point of emphasis” moving forward and all that means is they changed the rule without changing the rule ...

The officials will tell us weather they’ve been told to “let up” some ...
