picked this game up today, pretty fun...

visuals are pretty amazing, some of the options you have (like the cover mode) is impressive

i have yet to play the online aspect, but i hear that is the best, this game is awesome...

i was undecided between this and the new rainbow six, i'll just ask my girlfriend to get me rainbow six for christmas...

we should get a board group together on gears of war and kick some ass..

Yea, but can you play it on a PC that costs less then $400? Heck, some of the good video cards cost that much.

Actually...you couldn't even play it on a $10,000,000 PC...it's a Xbox 360 exclusive

I was commenting on the games for consoles in general

And yes, you can play quite a number of games on those $400 PC's.... you just have to tweak the graphics down a bit so they are the same level as the consoles

Of course, you'd *really* be able to play some games on $400 PC's if I had the retailer selling me higher end equipment for a coupla hundred dollar loss like they do with the consoles.

Once again, thanks. I grabbed the CC ad, walked next door to Best Buy, and picked up a copy of Gears for myself for $40

Great game. Very short . Went thru it on easy mode in less than 8 hours.
There is already a sequel in the works.
IMO it would have been a better idea to have downloadable content for the game like extra chapters.
Charge like $5.00 a pop for them.
But why ?
When you can hype version 2.0 up and get another $60.00, 1 beeelion times over again.

You are right, easy mode is exactly that, very easy. Try a harder mode I hated the game on easy mode.....but once I unlocked insane mode and tried it like that, it was a blast. It's even more fun with two players going through it.

You almost NEED two players on Insane. It's name, INSANE, fits it.

Online is great, one of the best Ive played.

Exactly. I always loved it when people say a game is short and that it is easy only to find out that they are playing on easy mode. Easy mode in games is meant for beginner gamers or gamers learning how to play a new game. It is not meant to be a true representation of how good a game is. In order to get that, you need to play on the harder modes.

Well said. I ran through "easy" just to get the controls down. Beat it, then beat Hardcore. Insane honestly is taking me 10 times longer b/c you cant run n gun. You also cant run n gun online either - you'll be an EASY kill!

Now Walmart has it for $44.99
I almost picked it up for myself, but always have trouble thinkin of things I want when someone asks me, so I put it on.

Questions:

Is this game still worth it if you don't use Live?

How does it compare with Halo, COD2 or 3, Ghoast Recon?

As a side question, What is the deal with Dead Rising? Good, Bad? it's a possiblity for my list.

Well I own Gears, Ghost Recon, and Dead Rising and here is what I think about all three:

Dead Rising- Maybe one of the most fun games I have ever played. If you like zombie movies or ever wondered what it would be like to run through a mall and break alot of stuff then Dead Rising is defiently for you. Nothing beats taking a flower pot and smashing into someone or running around with a chainsaw....
**** The Story of Dead Rising is kinda so-so but this is defiently a game you don't buy for the story.

Gears- Is a totally different kinda of action game. Instead of being a god and running and gunning you actually have to take cover. Some games make taking cover complicated but it is very much easy in this game. In order to play this game and enjoy you have to practice patience. The graphics on this game maybe the best of all the 360 games.

Ghost Recon- Is a stanard tactical shooter. It has great graphics but if you are just starting out on a 360 all of the controls maybe hard for you to grasph, if I recall it uses about every button to do something important. I enjoyed this game but it really has nothing new when it comes to gameplay.

Loki,
Thanks for the info man! I'll have to add Dead Rising to the wish list. I had heard it had bugs but that was a while ago, maybe no more?

gears sounds like a winner too. I have GRAW, and like it, Agree with the learning curve but loved that you could not just run n gun like in Call of Duty2, although that was fun also. I guess I was wondering if I need both Gears & GRAW or are they different enough to warrant both?

They are not even close; Gears is its own type of game I can't compare it to anything else.

there were never bugs...

the problem is, when characters talk in the game, you don't hear the voices, it is done through text, and the text is super small unless you are playing through an hdtv...

i got a deal on a 360 (it fell off the back of a truck let's say, got it from a cop, lolz) and i went out and bought deadrising right away, just because i'm a huge fan of zombie movies, but i haven't played it again since that night because the text thing just pisses me off...

the game seems like a load of fun though...

Spooky, thanks. thats makes me feel better. in fact maybe i'll just go back and get it at that 44.99 price. Sounds like these are your type of games? any input on Rainbow Vegas while we are at it? same question regarding Ghost.

LeBron, You nailed it. For Dead Rising that was exactly what i heard now that you spelled it out. I have a 52'' HDTV, does that solve the problem?

.

And thanks again to all pilingn on my questions, I've been brownsing this forum for a bit now. Your Input helps a TON, because 1. I'm cheap and 2. I only get a new game once in a while and only keep maybe 4 at a time. Anything after that just sits and depreciates on me LOL.

hahaha, i think you'll be fine with a 52 inch hdtv...

i'm jelous...

i hear rainbow six las vegas is a solid game, i think i may have my girlfriend get that for me, for christmas...

as far as other games go, saints row is pretty fun, it's a geeked out version of gta, but set in a generic midwestern city...

nhl 2007 is fun as well, the new shot stick is addictive...

You do know that they've had a download to fix that since a week after it was released, right?

there is? someone told me that they were not going to come up with a patch...

i haven't downloaded too much from my 360... do i just stick the game in and it will update itself? i know that happens when you put a game in that you haven't played in a while... or do i have to go through marketplace?

are you sure this came out? i've found articles on deadrising, and they all say capcom refuses to put out a patch, and instead say to use hd cables and turn your tv to widescreen...

Top 4 games to make a 360 Library:
1) Gears of War (Gamespot 9.5)
2) Dead Rising (Gamespot 8.4)
3) Oblivion (Gamespot 9.6) ( IF you like fantasy games at all)
4) Ghost Recon(Gamespot 9.2)/ Rainbow Six ( Gamespot gave Six a 9.1) but seems similar to GRAW

I tried to give you the gamespot reviews cause they are probably the best reviewers of games in my opinion. Trust me for a game to be in the 8.0's it has to be really good and to be in the 9.0's it has to be almost perfect.

Those are the 4 games I would own and keep.

* As a side note I also own Double Agent, FEAR, Madden, NCAA Football, Middle Earth RTS, and the ones mentioned above but my top 4 are as stated. I really haven't got into FEAR yet but it seems sweet but not as good as Gears.

I don't have the game myself, but I do remember an article saying they were going to fix it.

Maybe they nixed the idea.

You would have to go to the marketplace and look for the downloads for the game.

Loki,
Thanks, that info is great. I already own Ghost and Oblibion(amazing Graphics). So it looks like my gut instinct is safe on the other two games. (no Butch reference intended LOL). I also noticed Gears was at the top of you list. I assume not by coincidence? Now I just have to decide if I want to risk swapping Ghost for Rainbow. If it's just as good, I wouldn't mind the fresh environments.

My ranking for games:

1. Gears of War (even if its only Single Player, its worthy)
2. Oblivion (amazing)
3. Battlefield 2 (only Xbox Live folks should buy this, its awesome online)
4. Tony Hawk Project 8
5. WWE Smackdown vs Raw (best wrestling game since N64 hands down)

Well Gears is my favorite as of now. For me favorites come and go, pretty much what I am playing at the moment. The top 4 I put I would most likely play those again and again.
