i said it a lot last night, but the STs is an embarrassment. Blocked punts, FGs, penalties, awful returns ... costing us big time

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I'm still confused as to why Callaway isn't full-time at punt return. Is it in fear of injury?

They probably want him concentrating 100% on WR.

Hue Jackson said he's very concerned with the special teams. "We've got to put a band-aid on it as fast as we can."

No...clueless Hue...you DON'T put a band-aid on it. You FIX it. NOW!

The ST coach can be let go in 3...2...1...

I'm not sure what it is...does any oline experts know if we changed our scheme this year? ...Only wondering if that can explain our blocking issues and missed assignments...when they seem rather basic.

Also Nick Chubb is a Dorsey guy right? He drafted him...So Dorsey wants him to play some....They cant find a lot of time with him behind Hyde and Duke...SO it seems like they play him at special teams...Not because he's good at it, seems like they are playing him because he's on the active roster...

We've had so many blocks this year its alarming...Colquitt has done great at punting, but he has had more bad punts this year then all of last year...

Peppers is so indecisive on punt returns...He plays like he's afraid of getting hit (Which is odd as he's a SS who likes to hit) He also lost his elusiveness and his speed doesn't seem there (did he bulk up...because he runs like a 4.6 guy now)

Denzel Rice has a couple dumb penalties on special teams...I havent really been able to see all that much from our gunners.

Our kicker scares me as much as Zane does/did...that's not good...Fortunately he made his XP and FG's....His one kickoff was dumb.

I was about to post the same thing... Maybe Hue is actually really smart, but doesn't know the meaning of words? I dunno.

maybe he needs the message in braille on his forehead. Do you game plan for carrying Its during the week? Missed kicks, blocked punts and FG, crappy tackling, flags for our clipping/blocks in the back. When does it get better? This has hurt us every game, cost us wins.
Hats off to a vicious and effective D.

IMHO if I were the coach I would make this rule: Never return a kickoff, EVER! The rules have changed so much that anytime you run it out, typically you don't even make it to the 20, and by luck if you do make it past the 25, a flag is ALWAYS thrown, so we start with worse field position than if we just kneel it.

I don't think this is a bad idea at all. I would wager, average wise, you end up gaining on season than losing, especially when you commit penalties like we do. Would be interesting to see the stats....

Yes special teams has been.. well special, but I seen a ray of sunshine. Look at how many punts we placed inside the 10 yard line. That is a good way of flipping field position.

Very true - a big key to Thursday's win.

Our defense has a good habit of making QBs feel uncomfortable, especially in the shadow of their own goalposts.

It wouldn't matter if he has no blocking and the rest of the team holds, or blocks in the back 90 percent of the time.

they could improve the specials teams immensely by not returning anything and kicking touchbacks everytime and angle punting out of bounds..thats how bad they are.. Amos should already been fired

Amos Jones was a hire that made no sense whatsoever to me.

I just never understood hiring someone who was so consistently poor at a previous job in the same capacity.

IMO, just hire someone newer ... retreads are not the answer

GratefulDawg, I was sorry to read this. Very informative, so thanks. BUT, I had no idea that it not only confirmed, but also surpassed how horribly lacking it was for the Browns' ST's.

Why was he hired? Why is he still here? Bad judgment with awful results.

It's sad. And utterly mind-boggling.

Who's buddy is he that we felt we needed to downgrade our staff in order to give him employment??

We literally could fire Amos and not replace him with anyone and do better than what we've had so far.

Someone said it before and I've thought about it... promote Josh Cribbs to ST coordinator.

We couldn't possibly go anymore backwards in the ST area.

josh played for some great ST coordinators, you'd think he'd retain alot of what he learned from them

He was hired because our head coach is/was a lame duck.

Is it unheard of to fire a Special teams coach this early in the season?

I don't see how our team has gotten better on offense and defense, but got worse on special teams.

We need a new ST coach ASAP.

Hue Jackson used to coach special teams for the Bengals in 2012.
