I would have made Haley HC and Saunders OC. Im no fan of Haley but unlike Williams he had a winning season and playoff appearence as Cheifs HC. young QB like Baker needs a HC from a offensive background.....i.e Goff Mccay Wentz Pederson Mahomes Reid.

Unless Williams is good at miracles; I don't believe he will he will remain.
With Haley gone there was no other choice to be made. He is a team veteran. He has been here two years(sarcasm). He was a head coach before.
The savior will either be forced to take what is given to him or he will have authority to make up his own staff.
So with eight games to go Williams will need to win five or more.
At this point for me the Browns are another road side attraction.

Tabber,
**IF** we got Riley, why do you think he would keep Gregg and not bring his own guy? I have heard a few say this, and wasn't sure why he would. Riley won't keep Williams unless he is told that he is doing so. That is just how it works.... and it doesn't matter what name you insert into the HC position. Firstly Dorsey isn't going after a college coach. Secondly, all people need to do is look at the history of NFL interim HC's to understand the life expectancy at the position. The definition speaks for itself... adjective adjective: interim 1. in or for the intervening period; provisional or temporary. "an interim arrangement" synonyms: provisional, temporary, pro tem, stopgap, short-term, fill-in, caretaker, acting, transitional, makeshift, improvised, impromptu "an interim advisory body"
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Cause in college he has shown that he is willing to give the D to the coordinator. Also I think the D has something special cooking.
Why, cause the guy is an offensive mind and that is what he will be fixing and running and he would want somebody like Williams who has been building something here already to continue as he takes control of the Offense. I can also see Kitchen staying as the "OC" but it will be a situation where Riley will be calling the plays???
Can't say for certain.
just like I think Hue wanted to work on the O and got Williams clearly a DC who can run things from top to bottom without needing help.
Just opinion obviously I have no Facts to back me. I hear you. and I wasn't trying to call you out or anything, I was honestly curious. I would not be opposed at it by any means. But like you said, if hes just going to be worried about the offense, why wouldn't he care and just stick someone on D that he trust and knows.... I get what your saying and see that point, but I also see if im coming in, I want guys I know that have my back.

Gregg Williams on Myles Garrett’s criticism of gameplan: ‘Can’t take responsibility? Just blame me’ Updated 10:17 PM; Posted 9:36 PM https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2018/11...t-blame-me.htmlBEREA, Ohio — Browns interim head coach Gregg Williams indicated that Myles Garrett’s criticism of the defensive gameplan following Sunday’s 33-18 loss to the Steelers sounded like an excuse to him and that he’ll “get to the bottom of it.” Among other things, Garrett said, “I think we just took the wrong approach this time. I think we should've just stayed with what we did the first time, just go with base calls and punch them in the mouth. I feel like we should've stuck with the same game plan." He also said, “They were able to adjust, and we have to do the same thing.'' In his first press conference as interim head coach on Wednesday, Williams stressed that excuses won’t fly. “People handle frustrations differently,’’ Williams said. “One of the biggest gifts – I tell the coaches that get a chance to work with me and players – is my biggest gift that I give you if you have a hard time taking responsibility is blame me. “They have had heard me say that over 100 times here. You can’t take responsibility? Just blame me. I’m OK with it.’’ He added, “We’re going to discuss it, but there are people that respond that way. That’s just how they are. Some of you guys have kids. I have a bunch more kids, too. It’s crazy in some of the world and how we accept excuses anymore. My dad did not accept many excuses when I was growing up.’’ Williams noted that “it just is what it is. He’s fine. He’s totally fine. It’s really a non-issue.” Garrett didn’t think after the game that Williams would be bothered by his critique. "I don't see it that way,'' he said. "He wants to go with the best plan possible, and if we think what works best would be what we did before, then he's going to take our adjustment into account. He's not going to bash us for having an opinion. He wants us to be able to be on the field and be comfortable.'' Williams’ “no excuses” mantra comes on the heels of lecturing Garrett and the rest of the defensive players about criticizing the officials. Garrett came out after the Chargers game and blasted the officials for missing the false start on Philip Rivers’ 29-yard TD pass win the 38-14 LA victory. “I don’t want to hear their excuses,’’ Williams said last week. “I don’t make the excuse. I don’t want them to make the excuse. Everybody’s going to make a mistake. We have to play. We have to do our part. That particular play (when the false start was not called) that has been talked about all along. I’m hot at how we handled the play, not how the referee handled the play. “We have to finish the rush. We stopped rushing. We stopped finishing the coverage. You have to finish the coverage.” Garrett was also highly critical of himself after the Steelers game, in which he was held to one sack for a career-high eight on the season. Running back James Conner rushed for 146 yards, and the Steelers rolled up 421. "It's never going to be good enough for me,'' he said. "Had a sack early, had a tackle, but other than that, I was holding my edge but didn't make enough plays. Just being in the right place at the right time is not enough. We've got to be all over the field and we've just got to dominate and I wasn't there.'' He was hoping for an Aaron Donald-type highlight reel. Instead the Browns lost their third straight game and 15th straight in Pittsburgh to drop to 2-5-1. "I wish that on every game I play in, but sometimes it’s not in the cards,'' he said. "Sometimes they’ve got a plan for you and they get paid too, and they executed their plan and for the most part they kept me off the quarterback and kept me off James.'' I"m blown away by how much out of context he is quoted with speaking about Myles. I listened to the interview. the writer definitely hacked it.

What would your alternative be? Al Saunders I don't think that's a good idea if you ask me. The entire point of emphasis is Baker. We went with kitchens because he was a Haley guy, who will run Haleys offense that baker has been learning. If we went with Saunders, they would bring wanting to change a lot of things. I absolutely believe we went with Kitchens to keep as much of Bakes plate as we can and to keep it simpler for him. JMO

honest question: do we think Hue will watch this week's game?
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

People are going to jump on Hue/Haley for this comment, but it says a lot about the players and the culture of this organization. We have seriously lacked professionalism throughout this organization for a very long time.

It sounds like now that a change has been made that the players care more (and are more invested?) .... but it could easily mean that they cared that Hue was gone?

We have seriously lacked professionalism throughout this organization for a very long time. Well if the players didn't care under Hue - then yeah, it would be a massive problem and indicate this decision should have been made weeks ago. . . . That'd sort of be a surprise to me. I am not certain how to interpret the tweet.

Nobody believes in Gregg Williams like Gregg Williams does. I laughed out loud when I heard him say this. Just as I laughed out loud during Hard Knocks when he told the defensive players he turned down seven other offers to come be the DC for the Browns.

We are so quick to ridicule our own. Gregg has a certain amount of, err, hubris, shall we say but he’s the HC of our team now. I want to see us beat Kansas (yes, Dorothy) and win games. I’ve posted on other threads I can understand the polarisation. However, I hope beyond hope we catch lightning in a bottle. I want this merry go round to end. I want consistency. Go Browns!!!!

It's a joke. Man, look at how he phrased it. He got 11 letters to interview? Not calls to his agent, but letters? lol 4 jobs without an interview? Of course this is an absurdity, having a little fun at everyone's expense. Kitchen coming out today and saying that he didn't have any head coaching offers was the final clue. I expect Williams to come to the podium tomorrow and announce that the earth and moon were about to collide, but he singlehandedly put the moon back into its proper orbit, just to see who reports that one too.

Riley won't keep Williams unless he is told that he is doing so. That is just how it works.... and it doesn't matter what name you insert into the HC position. No way Lincoln Riley leaves Oklahoma. He just got a raise that is going to pay him 25 million over the next 5 years guaranteed. https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college...on-kyler-murraythey also gave him another raise from 3.1 million per year last year to 4.8 mil this year on top of the 25 mil guaranteed...he isn't leaving Oklahoma the guy isn't stupid, he has it made in Oklahoma..even if we offered him Gruden money he would be completely stupid to leave Oklahoma for Cleveland.(he won't even if we do offer him 100 million) If he comes here chances are his coaching career is over in 3 years, if he loves football, he stays away from here, the Browns are not the good choice to make his NFL debut. Lincoln Riley is smart, he will wait a year two, and up his stock and wait for a better situation, he is young and in no rush.

It's funny that Larry checked the incorrect quote.
Also, I think a change of effort from the players would simply be this:
Everyone knows that with a new HC comes new players. These guys are playing for their careers for the rest of this season. There is no saying I'm good bc I've been playing for Hue the last 2 years. No. No more Hue. If the game tape doesn't show effort, and you making plays. You're out of here.

Just reading through the thread I can see a definite mix of feelings about this move. I understand them all, both sides. The thing is, right now they needed somebody that will demand that the team stay focused, and I believe Williams can do this. IMO, Saunders is too old at this point, and has a big job trying to make something out of the depleted WR group.
I'm sure Williams knows that this is temporary, and odds are he will be gone next year too. New HCs like to build their own staff.
I was all for keeping Hue, but just for the continuity part. But looking back, Dorsey should have had say in who the new HC would be. Now, he will get to do that.
Something must have really been wrong with Hue and Haley, and maybe others in the organization for Larry to make the comment he did.
The structure as it is right now, is probably the best thing they could have done. We will see soon if the players were not giving their all for Hue
RIP, Jim

Pathetic it takes a shakeup for them to pay "greater attention to detail". Browns culture at it's finest.
