"Suspicious Minds": Trump accused of racism for honoring Elvis, as he awards Medal of Freedom to Babe Ruth, Scalia
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-a...abe-ruth-scaliaNot everyone believes Elvis is the king. President Trump will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to seven Americans on Friday, including the late rock star Elvis Presley, though even that gesture is coming under fire from liberals. Trump is honoring Presley, baseball legend Babe Ruth, former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, philanthropist Miriam Adelson, Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch, jurist Alan Page, and Hall-of-Fame quarterback Roger Staubach. Still, some have accused Trump of racism for honoring Presley, long known as the "King of Rock and Roll." The Washington Post’s pop culture critic Chris Richards called Trump’s move “a little nod to the good old days, back when black visionaries could invent rock-and-roll, but only a white man could become the king.” “Yes, Trump is sending a message here,” Richards wrote. That claim has been scoffed at online, with the Weekly Standard publishing a rebuttal titled, “Elvis Wasn’t Racist. Neither Is Giving Him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.” “If you’re invested in making Elvis an avatar for racial resentments more than 40 years after his death, you’re, perhaps unwittingly, making the problems of contemporary divisions worse,” columnist Mark Hemingway wrote. “Music is one of a precious few cultural forces still holding us together.” Liberals have also protested Trump’s award for Adelson, the wife of GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson. The New York Times columnist Paul Krugman called the award to Adelson “ludicrous” and an “insult to people who received the medal for genuine service.” Krugman said she’s “done nothing for her country besides being the wife of a Trump-friendly megadonor.” According to the White House, Adelson is a “committed doctor, philanthropist, and humanitarian.” “She has practiced internal and emergency medicine, studied and specialized in the disease of narcotic addiction, and founded two research centers committed to fighting substance abuse,” the White House said in a statement. “With her husband, Sheldon, she also established the Adelson Medical Research Foundation, which supports research to prevent, reduce, or eliminate disabling and life-threatening illness. As a committed member of the American Jewish community, she has supported Jewish schools, Holocaust memorial organizations, Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, and Birthright Israel, among other causes.” The award ceremony is set to take place Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. EST. Ahead of Friday’s ceremony, the White House said, “This prestigious award is the Nation’s highest civilian honor, which may be awarded by the President to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”

This is a topic that I think we could have a very decent convo about, but could get derailed super quick.

I don't care that he is honoring these people, I just don't get why on some of them but whatever. Trump has every right to give the award to them.

This is a topic that I think we could have a very decent convo about, but could get derailed super quick. What decent conversation could possibly be had? Trump is inarguably a racist. Vambo - the guy best known for posting links to openly racist and anti-Semitic websites and cartoons that peddle clueless Grandpa conspiracy theories, is trying to single out one Washington Post reporter who is more or less overreacting, in an effort to mitigate that fact that Trump is a racist and that he (Vambo) constantly posts wildly racist and anti-Semitic content. That’s the entirety of his goal here.

Well, I was talking about acknowledgement, or lack thereof, of minority success in this country, and how it relates to someone like Elvis, who isn’t racist, gets credit by someone like trump, who is.
It’s a complex discussion but I mean..you kinda made it easier not to have it.

I hate that I am wading back into the filth pit, but .... J/C to the original post .......
There are no perfect people in the history of the entire world, except Jesus Christ. The rest of us are flawed, sinful people, who have made mistakes, and sometimes even horrible mistakes.
I wonder how some people might view George Washington, or Thomas Jefferson, or many other of the founders of this country, if they put them under the same microscope as other historical figures? George Washington owned slaves. So did Jefferson. So did Ben Franklin, John Hancock, John Jay, Patrick Henry, Benjamin Rush, and others. It was a terrible part of our history, but it does not diminish the contributions these men made to this country. JFK openly cheated on his wife. So did Clinton. FDR tried to increase the Supreme Court until he could get a majority who would support whatever he wanted. Truman had a major IRS scandal. Harding had the Teapot Dome scandal.
People make mistakes, sometimes horrible ones. People do bad things. They can still be recognized for their contributions.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

In that regard I would have liked to discuss how it is seen as beneficial for the Black community to degrade successful Minorities like Ben Carson or YE because they may not agree with their politics. Instead of attacking them and trying to undermine their careers, would it not be beneficial to say, "What a great person but we disagree with his politics?"

im writing this in a respective manner hoping for you to respond. we will see.
so, the issue with that is the fact that those people you mentioned have already been honored in their respective time.
we're talking more modern events here. with regards to Elvis, it was a while ago, but he isn't racist. the problem with giving Elvis the reward is that he got the label of king of rock n roll, despite the fact that the guys who paved the way from him and where his roots started didn't receive the honor.
think about it YTown. Elvis, who was a great muscisian period, will get the award, but Chuck Berry, who actually invented rock n roll and literally revolutionized music in America, still hasn't received the medal of freedom award?
its a bit odd. thats why you and others should understand, its not Elvis himself, but the situation surrounding it.
also, with respect to your overall point, it could set dangerous precedent. does a Nazi deserve to be recognized for their contributions to science? because by your logic, this sentence:
"yea, he was a nazi who hated jews and supported genocide in Germany, but he was a good scientist so we should give him an award" -
is a perfectly valid position, right?
"yea, he was responsible for the massacres in Rwanda, and helped get his own people killed as well as Congolese people, but he had good ideas so lets award him".
this applies to so many things. these things sound good on paper. but then when you actually say that out loud...doesn't make much sense after that.
we have to be very careful with the kind of people we choose to honor. if we keep having exceptions to the standard, then we just end up with no standard.

Ye has mental health problems, and its well documented. and again, nobody in the AA community degraded his music career, as he's one of the best selling artist we've ever had. we degraded his stupid political opinions.

And therein lies the rub. Is it really necessary to degrade them at all? Simply acknowledge that they are great. You may agree or disagree with some aspects of their lives but degrading one of your own defeats your stated concern. MLK had flaws but we don't degrade him for them. He was great! Someone may ask, "But what about when he..." to which we reply, "No, I didn't like that", but his greatness is not questioned. We don't tear down the whole man over some aspects of his life unless they overwhelm the great things he achieved. We instead acknowledge his greatness for the good he achieved.

again, its complex, which is what i was telling YTown.
no one is perfect for sure, but everybody has a hill they are willing to take a stand on. i dont care about Elvis being honored, because he should be honored. i have a problem that people love to acknowledge him but not the godfather in Chuck Berry.
and this notion of "one of my own" is also a slippery slope, because i defended my own in chicago with regards to violence in the community and you and others blast me for it.

It is complex. Referring to "One of your own" was simply a reference to the recognition of Minorities you were talking about in your first post. I have to chuckle at you talking about getting blasted. Have you ever seen what replies I get when I defend my own? BAAM!

Just a thought;
People don't get much more liberal or generous than Elvis Presley. The man gave cadillacs to strangers when such things were unheard of. He had a huge heart, cared about others, and loved his momma. Pure liberal.

Elvis also dldd serve in the military, and was a movie star as well. I do agree with you in that Berry deserves recognition as one of the creators of rock and roll.
I don't think that recognizing one person diminishes the other, though. The intro to Johnny B Goode might be top5 in music interns of being immediately recognizable. Berry was definitely a founder of rock.

See when people invent a rabbit hole, crawling down it is when we make our mistakes.
The fact you disagree with someone's politics isn't degrading them. It's simply disagreeing with them. It's a new thing where those on the right want you to allow people to have disgusting ideas, say disgusting things and somehow if you question them or bring it up, it's you who did something wrong.
Look no further than how Trump calls the free press the enemy of the people then his followers say the press should show him respect in return. If honorable, decent people don't speak out against wrongs, people will forget to expect things to be right.

A garbage post with flying insults void of facts. It’s not an “insult” to point out that Vambo routinely posts links to racist and anti-Semitic content - sites, cartoons, conspiracy theories - it’s an absolute fact. Nor is at an insult to point out that Trump is also incredibly racist. The facts back that up as well.

Off the top of my head, in the last 2 weeks alone, you’ve: -posted a wildly anti-Semitic cartoon by known anti-Semite Ben Garrison, which depicts George Soros being behind the “false flag” pipe bombing (and you posted it long after the pipe bomb suspect was arrested and identified) -posted a thread about the wildly racist and anti-Semitic Turning Point USA PAC, best known for their multiple series of “I HATE N——-S!” internal e-mails -posted links to The Daily Caller, a website founded by Tucker Carlson that’s best known for having had to fire *NINE* staffers in 2018 alone after their ties to the KKK and other white nationalist groups came out -posted a wildly anti-Semitic article regarding Kevin McCarthy that McCarthy himself deleted social media links to immediately after the synagogue shooting -tried to argue that Breitbart’s “Black Crime” section wasn’t racist And that’s just in the last 2 weeks. And every single time it’s pointed that you constantly post racist and anti-Semitic content, instead of doing what a normal or decent person would do and renounce it, you play dumb and pretend like you were unaware. Here is Vambo - who just tried to claim he doesn’t read Breitbart - quoting the “pedophilia is good” Breitbart editor six days ago: You remind me of TRIGGLYPUFF... It was from the 10th, in the Mister Rogers thread. I’m curious Vambo, if you don’t read Breitbart, as you just said, then why are you parroting a hyper-Breitbart-specific term that was coined by their weird pervert editor?

What does that backtrack tell you? You have Breitbart on the brain... “Trigglypuff” =

For those who don't know, this woman was coined "Trigglypuff" by a former Breitbart senior editor best known for repeatedly being kicked out of bars for shouting "SEIG HEIL!", and later fired when he said on a podcast that pedophilia is good because it teaches young kids about sex. You literally went from "I'm not racist, I don't read Breitbart, are you obsessed with pedophilia?" to posting a Breitbart reference made by a hyper-racist pedophile, in a little less than a half an hour.

I don't read Breitbart, but you have admitted to...isn't that where you get you Pettifile stuff? "Pettifile." This is the level you're dealing with. Why do you even bother?

Jokes on you. Vambo doesn't read any article before posting it to Dawgtalkers. You're dealing with a person who has less of a brain than wax statues.

All google linked... This game of "No U!" doesn't work when the other side has nothing to be ashamed of. You can mock people for knowing someone you listen to, even if it's only through "google linked", you're still listening and repeating fake news made by a "pettifile" like god dang how many brain cells do you have? 2? I'm amazed you can even respond to most posts, even if you only post emotes and "no u" responses.

Left's playbook
1. Accuse Racism
2. Deny your right to speak
3. Using the mob mentality
4. Play the victim
5. Appeal to authority fallacy

He went from posting “It’s not really fair that I get accused of racism, I don’t read Breitbart and, um, maybe you’re a pettifile?” to posting links to the Breitbart pedophile guy that loves Hitler in under a half hour. You have a point, but from a certain standpoint, it’s truly fascinating.
