I’m just looking at it from a totally pragmatic place. Business being business. And football is a business. Not saying I’m totally on board with the idea. Though if it came to pass I could see the end result as a positive. Another draft choice for our coffers.

You seem to actually miss the point here. Someone is going to sign him. Teams will want his services. Do I want him as a player on the Browns? Certainly not.
But IF we can grab him now and trade him later at our advantage, it's a business deal that favors us. I believe people need to look at the reality that the NFL is business and not a rah rah fan club.

I think until people take a stand against domestic violence that it will continue to be non matter for the NFL. Its thinking like you just posted, as to why this problem will not go away.

It actually has nothing to do with the way I think. I'm just reporting what some of the 32 billionaires that control the NFL will do. There will be teams that will go after Hunts services. That's not a thought process, that's a fact.
Being in control of where he goes and getting a return on an investment considering the facts pointed out above is smart business.
Sometimes you have to take emotions out of your thought process to arrive at a logical conclusion.
My personal thought on players who commit domestic violence? They should all be banned from the league. But that isn't going to happen. And it isn't going to happen to Hunt. Sometimes you have to deal with the facts at hand instead of dealing with what you think should be.

Maybe others won't either. It would be taking a hell of a risk burning a roster spot on guy (on a problem guy at that) who may never play again.

There are several examples that point toward this being factual.

Bengals. Match made in heaven. Or somewhere. James Conner did not return to that game. Bengals have a decent running back. The Steelers are not winning a title with their 3rd string RB. It make so much sense for them, but this would not be a Steelers move.

Hunts not playing this year ... he wouldn’t help the stilers or anyone until at least next year ...
There’s a shot he misses most of next year also depending on how the other investigation turns out ...

If he is not claimed .. he will be a free agent and will demand more money. To get his services on the cheap, he needs to be claimed off waviers.

Report: Kareem Hunt Could Serve More Than 'Baseline' Six-Game SuspensionBy MICHAEL SHAPIRO December 02, 2018 Former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt is expected to serve "more than the baseline six-game suspension" when he is removed from the Commissioner's Exempt List, according to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. In addition to its investigation into Hunt's altercation with a woman at a Cleveland hotel in February, the NFL is now investigating a second incident involving Hunt in June. Hunt allegedly punched a man in the face at an Ohio resort, per Rapoport. The NFL is expected to meld the two incidents into one suspension, extending its potential discipline into the 2019 season. Hunt was released by the Chiefs on Friday. He is eligible to be claimed on waivers, with the deadline set for 4 p.m. ET on Monday. The former Kansas City running back is currently on the Commissioner's Exempt list, ineligible to play or practice as the league continues its investigation. Hunt could choose to serve his suspension "as soon as possible" and return to the field earlier in 2019 if he is signed by a team, according to Rapoport. Hunt released a brief statement on Friday. "I want to apologize for my actions," Hunt said. "I deeply regret what I did. I hope to move on from this." Link

Roughly translates to: I was down with doing this until I got caught, now I'm sorry.

Based on headlines of "Hunt BEATS woman", etc, I thought no way he should never be allowed to play again.
Went to watch the video, expecting something like Ray Rice did, but I gotta say, it's not NEARLY as bad.
It's BAD, don't get me wrong, you should never put your hands on someone who is defenseless against you, but in Ray Rice case he cold cocks her out of nowhere and drags her out of the elevator.
In the Hunt video they are both clearly inebriated and she hits him in the face. At the point where he knocks over the person between them he also appears hurt and looks like he was more falling down than tackling.
Later on he kicks her while she is squatting, but it's like a light tap on the shin that makes her fall from squat to lying down, no real damage.
So, takeaways: 1) THIS IS NOT NEARLY AS BAD AS RAY RICE 2) STILL INEXCUSABLE, and IMO should be suspended the rest of the year, plus 4 games next year, and put on probation. To me it's not the level that he should never play again.

Yes, sign him on waivers and then yes, trade him to the highest bidder next year.
We've got two good RB's and he's worth more to us for the draft choice than anything.
Using our waiver wire position is no different than using our cap space to get a draft choice.

Someone earlier asked if he would count against a roster if claimed, and the answer is no. He is on the exempt list.
There is really no risk in claiming him, other than PR.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Hunt is a young player 23 years old.
Obvious talent. The video was bad but not Rice bad.
People have short memories. Mixon is not talked about. Blount is not talked about. Hill is not talked about. Hell Adrian Peterson beat his kids.
It will blow over.
Is he worth the press and distraction. Look what we put up with Gordon. It depends in how it is handled internally.
Dorsey will have to determine the value versus the PR.and have to figure out how it would work inside the team.

We have Chubb and Johnson....and in addition to that....anymore, rb are a dime a dozen in the nfl……..there have been nearly as many late rd picks starting in the league as 1st rd picks....
And the guys we have currently have demonstrated that they are more than serviceable.....the only way we sign this guy is if chubb or Johnson aren't in our long-term plans, and I just don't see that being the case...
