Lost in all of this is: The Browns won today.
Because
Or in spite off.
The Browns won.
Could every Browns player on the field have played better? Sure.
Will they watch the film and try to learn from it? Yes.
I guess I'm just a bottom line guy. W

Its a VICE GRIPS thread ... were talking about VICE GRIPS ...
The W is being talked about in the game day forum ...
Not sure why not talking about the W while discussing vice grips is “unusual” ... not really sure why u decided to make it seem like we were doing sumptin wrong talking about one of our players in his thread w/o bringing up the W ....
*shrugs* .... BOTTOM LINE .... i feel like iI’vew just been chastised and I’m not sure why ... *L* ....

Dude, on Higgins's 17 yard catch and run today, Landry was blocking like a demon. As vers said right after we signed him, Landry is a willing and able blocker.

I wish we had Kenny Britt back. He was a much better value than Landry.

This reply is so disingenuous trying to compare Kenny Britt to what Landry has done for this team.

It will become even more awesome should we continue to win in the future. There will always be a few peeps who wanna live in the past and further their agendas, but overall, this place will be much more friendly.
Hmmmmm..........I am wondering if that is true, if I am delusional, or if I should have used purple.

Pretty much. Good player and good locker room guy.
The Browns were in a spot where they had too many dollars chasing too few players. Sometimes you just have to get good players where you can and sort things out later.
*I figure cfrs meant to say that he is glad Landry is on the team, or something like that

Landry's demeanor in the locker room is one of the reason why the Dolphins were looking to move him. We have Baker, so he may be ok with us, as I don't think there's a better guy in the locker room than Mayfield. Link Landry strikes me as the type that if we're winning, he's fine... but if we start losing he sorta looses his cool. I don't know that this is the type of guy you want in your locker room... I think it needs to be a good fit and with baker perhaps Landry fits in nicely. Link If we do end up in a rut and start losing, say Baker gets injured and we go to QB2. Landry may be an issue. Whether he or someone brought up his usage isn't relevant, but the fact we were talking about it is... I don't hear stories about Devalve saying winning is more important than his touches. If we win, Jarvis is happy. If we lose but Jarvis gets his touches, Jarvis is happy... that is the impression he gives. Link And I think a lot of the posts here agree that Landry is overpaid, which is the premise of my argument... however some still believe that he isn't because maybe he makes a block here or there... Isn't that what players are supposed to do? Are you saying we need to pay players more to get them to block? I think it's fair to say Jarvis isn't going to get 100 catches. I think the odds of him reaching 1000 yards is also pretty slim. He hasn't had over 120 yd receiving in a game since September of 2016... and he's only done it twice in his career. For comparison sake and I know that's what people like to do... Mike Evans has done it 13 times... Heck, Sammy Watkins has done it 7 times. But Landry? Only twice...

How u turned the third link into a negative really says it all ... i dont get it ... qualify it ANY WAY U WANT ... and your framin was pretty weak also ... but much “stronger” than the 3rd piece of the “Landry is a bad teammate” picture your trying to paint here ... please tell me what in here is NEGATIVE ... i’ll Be back for more on this later ... but for now ... please explain how this is negative? ... even considering how u framed it ... U said the fact “were talking about” is a “concern” ... when in fact he was simply answering a question from Rome .. a LEGITE QUESTION that i 100% LOVED THE ANSWER TO ... Here’s the article from the 3rd link .... this is the entire article .. it also has the audio on it .. GO LISTEN TO THAT ... makes the negative comments about this een more mind boggling to me ... I seriously have no clue how u turn that into a negative ... what am i missing here? ... Anyone? ... ————————————————————————————————————- Jarvis Landry: 'I'm all about winning' more than getting touches Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry made an appearance on the Jim Rome Show and revealed that winning is more important to him than individual stats. Rome asked Landry about his diminished targets in Cleveland since the coaching change and why he hasn’t complained publicly like some others in his situation have done. Obviously, it’s tough being a competitor and wanting to help the team,” Landry responded. “For me personally, coming off the contract this season, I want to be able to earn my check.” Landry continued, “It did not come with the touches that I thought it would come with, but it came with a couple of victories. I’m all about winning.” An extended excerpt from Landry’s visit with Rome is available via the CBS Sports Network: ——————————————————————————————————— I don’t get it bro ... will be back later to expand on the other two links and HOW FAR YOUR REACHING to “win the debate” ... MEMPHIS I did go re-watch the play .. a lot of times .. *LOL* ... U were 100% wrong .. i was 2/3rd right and 1/3rd wrong ... ... That was not a catchable pass ... it was also not thrown as hard as i thought ... Vice Grips and Bake weren’t on the same page on that one .. Vice Grips turned in after Bake had thrown a pass that would have been catchable if Vice Grips didnt turn in ... if vice grips would have continued his path towards the sideline it would have been slightly behind him but catchable ... if u can .. go re-watch it ... it was thrown in a WIERD POSITION ... hard to describe ... But no way was it catchable ... Vice Grips was turning in and the ball was on him like within a fraction of a second of him gettin this head around ... it was on him before he could react ... he was lucky to get his hand up in time to get his fingers bent back ... *LOL* ... Not sure what happenend .. it looked discombulated from the start and Bake either threw it to soon or Vice Grips turned late ... If u can re-watch it ... let me know what u think ...

How anyone can say even in jest, that Landry is over paid, I have no idea
His actions and effect on and off the field have been nothing short of incredible.
He plays well, does some really nifty catching for sure,, the throw on Sunday had to make you ask, wait what, that wasn't Mayfield.
He is clearly a leader on and off the field.. How anyone can put a $ value on that, beats me.

My response was to the point that Landry is a good locker room guy. I'm not trying to paint him a bad locker room guy. I don't think he's necessarily a bad locker room guy. Different guys fit into different places "better." I even said Landry may fit here better than he did in Miami. My point was in rebuttle to Haus's good locker room comment.
Im glad you brought up the third article... And yes Rome asked the question of Landry. Landry has always gotten his targets and he's been targeted this year, believe it or not, about as much as he's ever been... he's doing less with roughly the same amount of targets.
I agree we are going to disagree. And we are just going to have to wait another year and have an offseason long discussion about this...

Concerning Baker..Landry talked a bit about Baker's leadership in the lockerroom and how backs it up with his play on field. ...mentioned the accuracy of Bakes pass on the 51 yd TD pass ...Landry had nothing but good things to say about Baker.

I didn't listen until now. Fair is fair. I'll retract the third point on Landry but the first 2 still stand.
There's also many more than 2 who know Landry isn't a complete STUD. I don't mind that he's here, no, not at all. But the price tag was too high and not worth it plus there were better cheaper options.
Yeah im sure some will disagree, but this season was a point for being overpaid.

Did you factor in the destination or doesn't that go into your evaluation? Does needing veteran leadership enter into your evaluation?
I count in certain mitigating circumstances. In the first place, you are asking a quality veteran WR to come to a team that has won one game the last two seasons. In the second place you are looking for some fire, passion and veteran leadership on a young and at the time, a very weak WR core.
I don't believe this young group would be responding as well as they are without that passion and veteran presence that Landry brings.
The fact that we were the least favorable destination in the entire NFL plus our need for a passionate, veteran presence are factors to consider in to the price tag. At least for me they are.

I think, and have read, that acquiring Tyrod Taylor and Jarvis Landry gave us a level of credibility around the league with other free agents. That is a real thing. Going forward I don't know how much Landry will contribute to that now that we have a QB.

I think the real answer will come in year three of his contract. From my understanding we could release him at that time without a severe cap hit.
My point was that we have to take into consideration the circumstances at the time we signed him and not base it strictly on numbers. Getting a quality FA to sign here at that point in time took some doing. Sometimes I believe that people don't always look at things like that big picture.

DEVICE ... if he’s overpaid .... PLEASE adress this post from way BACK ON PAGE 2 ... i posted it and the response has been DEAFENING SILENCE ... wonder why that is ... The irony of your posts is that you continue to make my case for me...
We are paying him true #1 money, but you say hes not a true #1.
I mean this is the very definition of being overpaid. You realize that, right?
I finally found a useful purpose for the like button .. u find out who else is clueless about a situation w/o them making a post ... *L* .... Lets take a looksie at those pesky little details as opposed to just making dumb general statements .... as we go through this ... i’m Gonna make a point to point out WHEN EACH DEAL WAS SIGNED ... thats a hint for u and your two buddies ... ... OK ... here’s a list of the top 10 WR’s based off yearly average ... heres the link ... https://overthecap.com/position/wide-receiver/1. OBJ ... yup ... he’s a #1 ... newest signing ... THIS OFF SEASON if not during the regular season ... 2. AB ... yup ... true #1 ... LAST OFF season .. made him the #1 paid by a hefty margin when he signed it .. 3.. Mike Evans ... i dont think so .. but i’m Sure u do so I ain’t gonna debate it ... 2nd most recent signing i believe ... was THIS OFF SEASON ... 4. Hop ... best on football IMO today ... LAST OFF SEASON ... may have made him the #1 paid WR at the time .. can’t remember who signed first ... him or AB ... So far ... Evans don’t belong that high but pretty spot on ... NOTICE THE SIGNING DATES there menZas ... 5. Brandin Cooks ... NOPE .. not a #1 in any sense of the word ... PLAYMAKER that I’d love to have ... a true #1 .... NOT A CHANCE .. SIGNED THIS OFF SEASON after a trade ... just like vice grips ... 6. Sammy Watkins ... ... ... nuff said ... SIGNED THIS OFF SEASON ... 7. VICE GRIPS .... THIS OFF SEASON ... at the time of the signing .. he was # 3 or 4 on this list ... i said then he’d be down 3 or 4 spots by the end of the season ... LOOKIE LOOKIE LOOKIE .. by the end of the season ... he may fall another spot ... 8. AJ Green ... true #1 ... signed during the 2015 season .. at the time .. made him one of if not the highest paid WR’s in football ... he’s a FA either this or next off season ... he will move back up the list even with this injury ... 9. Devante Adams ... not a true #1 ... LOVE him .. but hes not a true #1 ... love to see what Vice Grips could do in that O ... SIGNED In Dec of 17 ... so he was the FIRST DOMINO to fall this off season ... since then he’s fallen 4 or 5 spots ... IN LESS THAN 12 MONTHS ... U seing the pattern here menZa? .... am i really proving your point ... am i really ... 10 Stefan Diggs ... no way a true #1 .. LOVE him .. hes a PLAYMAKER but not a #1 .... Guess when he was signed ... go ahead ... even u can get it ... He was SUPRISE SUPRISE SIGNED THIS OFF SEASON ... Next is Julio ... go ahead and guess where he falls in the WHEN DID THEY SIGN GAME ... i dont even know yet ... but i’m Guessing it was at least two years ago based off the rest of the list .. lets go see .... This ones tricky .. they “revised” his contract this year ... appearantly he wasn’t happy at where he was on the pay scale on the contract he SIGNED IN 2015 .... gee .. what a shocker ... a bunch of dudes that couldnt carry his jocks passed him and he missed all off season activities and wasnt sure if he was gonna report ... U guys notice the pattern here ... u still think i made tour point menZa ... ...

I think we know why I didn't comment on this...
But if you'd like me to comment, I'd rather have any of the 9 guys and their contract over Landry. There's probably 10 more guys below that who would be better as well.
I've posted facts about him that have gone unnoticed. I recall one person saying he is a first down machine. Fact is Landry is awful at converting first downs. His first down rate has actually been awful his entire career.
Look... I don't hate Jarvis. I never said he sucked. I said he is overpaid and he is what he is. You actually agreed with me but continue to ignore the meaning of overpaid. I would trade his contract and get the picks back in a heartbeat. I don't care if you feel we HAD to pay him what we did to get him to sign here. That's not really relevant to him being overpaid, in fact saying that only reinforces what I'm saying.
Jarvis isn't the one who is going to bring in free agents as someone mentioned. We don't need Jarvis for that. We have Baker. He's all we need.
And we can go back and forth about overpaying for Jarvis all you like... But I can tell you with one game to go there's no way Jarvis can exceed expectations from what I said he'd give us and what he was worth waaaaaaay back when we signed him. In fact, I'd say he underachieved from what I was expecting. So it's actually worse than I originally thought. He's been a disappointment this year. And I hope you're right and he gives us something that lives up to his contract next season.

Not going to read everything in this thread … but I think you are being WAY to hard and critical on Landry. You're nearly in the same boat with Landry as Rasta is with Baker.
I'm not sure what the point of trying to compare Landry to Green, AB, Hopkins etc is ….. Landry isn't a #1 WR. But he's been a very positive influence on the Browns this year and without him I am not sure where our WR corps would be. He is a lot more than the sum of his stat line each week. He's not perfect. But right now, this year with the Browns he's been a positive influence and I don't begrudge the contract one bit.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

I QUIT reading there ... if u would take all 9 of them and there contracts over vice grips ... i over estimated your football knowledge or your willingness to have a “fair” discussion .... Not trying to be a jerk or snarky ... just being truthful ... theres no need to discuss any further ... no reason to discuss because were so far apart on this the Grand Canyon looks like a crack in the sidewalk .. Later for this topic dawg ... ENJOY ... PS. .. not sure if u adressed the TIMING and the FACT his contract will diminish in “value” as others sign and all ready have ... not sure if u noticed or not .. but what NUMBER WAS HE ON THAT LIST when this convo started vs now ... RHETORICAL QUESTION ... unless someone quotes your answer i will have no clue what it said ... u wanna chat with me about VICE GRIPS PM me and the first line best have a real good hook in it or i’m Not reading that either ... Happy New Year Dawg ....

Haha. It's ok Dawg. No hard feelings. I'm not here trying to seek your approval. I think there's another post here somewhere listing about 33 other WR who would be better value than Landry. I do expect Landry here next year, beyond that who knows. I like to think Baker will eventually be Tom Brady-like and we won't have to spend big on WR. I think all their WR costs about as much as Landry does. As in the top ten you listed I wouldn't say they are paid accordingly, either. So it's pointless to compare. I'm not here to justify Jarvis contract based on anyone else's contract. But I do believe he'll be the only one of the top 10 who played all 16 games not to reach 100 catches or 1000 yards. If the Bucs are in rebuilding mode, Evan's is one I would consider paying for... Landry just isn't worth his contract. Plus he doesn't even know where the Browns came from.

I'm not sure what the point of trying to compare Landry to Green, AB, Hopkins etc is ….. For ANYONE INTERESTED in a FAIR discussion about VICE GRIPS ... When the premise of the “other side” in the discussion is that he’s OVERPAID .... the LOGICAL THING to me would be to go see what he’s making compared to other WR’s .... then u find where he’s slotted ... then compare him to thise around him salary wise .... They say he’s OVERPAID .... i go see WHOSE GETTING PAID “around” him ... makes sense to me ... it may be to LOGICAL for some ... or it may just blow there entire argument up ... u decide .... ... Those were the guys ... So IF u had read all the posts you’d know that COMMON SENSE is why they were brought into the convo ... OR is it just me doing that AGENDA DRIVEN SMOKE ... ...

U guys notice the pattern here Yeah WR is the most over paid, over rated position in the NFL...
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

The pay scale would indicate it's the RB's.
I tend to rate player position values the same way the NFL does. By the pay grade. The WR position earns much more than the RB position.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
