Ugh. My poor old dog has been suffering with urinary accidents, and has had blood in his urine at times. Turns out he has bladder stones. I guess there are 3 kinds of stones a dog can get. 2 can be dissolved by diet, and 1 has to be removed surgically. Guess which one my poor guy has. *sigh*
He goes in Friday morning. He's 12, but the vet did blood work and checked his heart and lungs, and he's in good shape overall, so they expect a complete recovery. Since these stones do come back, they are going to put a "pouch" into his bladder, so the stones will fall out of the bladder itself and into the pouch. That, along with proper diet, should extend the time before he has any more problems.
It's expensive, ($600) but at least it's not as expensive as having to feed him a vet only special diet that would cost $3/can, which they recommended 4 cans/day for his size. I can cook him chicken, broth, and rice, and stuff like that, and he should do OK.
Anyway, he has to go in on Friday morning. Please say a prayer for my old guy, if you would.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Best of luck w/your pal. It's really tough to see your dogs suffer. I had a very hard time moving on after losing two w/in a year.

I am with you Bro.
I was always a dog person, but this cat "adopted" us. His name is Clark. A big orange tabby...I mean a big cat...the neighbor saw him back down a fox in a fight...he is maybe 18-19 lbs, but a lean 18-19 lbs. He is a sweet cat, but he isn't a punk if pushed.
I got home today after going to Cleveland on Friday for the Browns game. He keeps jumping in my lap....I have to make up "loving time" for the days lost.

Same thing Arch. You have already told me. Unlike dogs, who latch on to the whole pack, cats kind of pick and choose who they hang with, and it seems both you and I have, or have had, a cat who picked us.
That's pretty cool. Cats don't make many friends......by choice.

No disrespect to Mo, my lab, or Milo the cat (she was an awesome cat........totally awesome), or Clyde the cat - poor guy was deaf, and had epilepsy.

Hope evrything goes well on Friday.
We just got Lab/Boxer puppy on Friday. Cutest little girl ever. Named her Shadow. Only one accident so far, daughter was too slow getting her jacket on and she couldnt hold it anymore. Still got her outside though where she squeezed out two pees and a poop. Looking forward to many years of fun.

Thank you everyone.
Duke's picture, from a few years ago, is my post image. (to the left)
He is much grayer/whiter now, at least his head and face, especially.

Thanks guys. The only good part is that he doesn't have to only eat the crappy food they sold me for a different kind of stone ..... that he hated. He didn't eat for a day and a half. He got some regular dog food tonight, with some chicken soup, and a small piece of roast beef. That was scarfed down in seconds. Then he got a piece of hamburger bun with hamburger fat. Oh he was so happy. lol I don't think he'll be as happy staying at the hospital overnight following his surgery.

Always tough seeing, literally, a member of your family go thru something/anything like this.
They just don't get it.
Surely hope all goes well. Keep us posted.

I just have to figure out how I am going to get him in and out of my truck. I may have to haul the steps I use for him to get on and off of the bed. They're heavy, but I should be able to get them down the stairs. The trick is going to be getting them back up. I hope that he'll still be a little groggy overnight, so he doesn't wonder where his human buddy is. I'll be there first thing Saturday morning to visit him, and hopefully to bring him home.

Sorry to hear, not to take over your thread, but my dog is facing some medical issues too.
He is 7 years old (right at the upper end of his lifespan - he is a Dogue De Bordeaux or French Mastiff - the one from Turner and Hooch)
He has a nipple that is overgrown and hanging, and I believe its a Mammary Tumor. I am taking him Saturday to get all the appropriate test done. Hoping they can just chop it off, you never know.
Hope you pup gets better.

It's hard for people that aren't "pet people" to understand the bond that forms creating an environment where your pet is a family member.
I get it. Best of luck to you and your buddy.

Thanks guys.
He went back to eating his "normal" food yesterday, just no hard treats. He didn't eat for a day and a half, or so, because he didn't like the food the vet sold me. He was so happy to get back to some sense of normal. This morning he had a scoop of canned food with hamburger "gel" mixed with some hot water. He was so happy.
I am prayerfully hopeful that he's going to be OK.

I had to take him off all food at 7pm .... but I gotta say .... having put him on real food this past few days (chicken breast, broth, and rice) has really perked him up a great deal. Unfortunately, while he's in the hospital, I am going to have to do a lot of cleaning from the accidents he's had lately. I also have to get the chicken I bought today on to cook. I didn't want to do it today when he's not allowed to eat.
I haven't slept yet, and he has to be at the hospital at 7:30. I have to drag the steps I use on the bed downstairs, so he can get in and out of the truck without too much trouble.
4 hours are he'll be in surgical prep. I am more nervous than when I had my last surgery.

Duke came through his surgery like a champ. He's still kinda out of it right now, but the doctor expects a full recovery.
I'm going to see him again this afternoon.
