A loss to a 1-AA team?
Where does Michigan rank next week?
It had best be lower than 20 if not out of the top 25.
In reality, they will say it was a fluke...at home...my guess is they'll be #17
If they were playing at App State,,then maybe a fluke,, but they were playing in the big house,,,in front of 109,000 fans,,no fluke! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!
I wonder if Iambrown is sad

for more laughs check out the pregame article:
Appalachian St.-Michigan Preview
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan and Appalachian State open the season with national title aspirations.
Both might reach their goals.
The fifth-ranked Wolverines seem to have a shot at ending the season in New Orleans, playing for the BCS national championship, with one of the best offenses in the country and a favorable schedule.
The two-time defending champion Mountaineers are favored to win the Football Championship Subdivision -- formerly known as Division I-AA -- when the second tier of college football crowns an undisputed champion on the field in a playoff.
Even though the Wolverines are expected to win easily Saturday at Michigan Stadium, they're treating Appalachian State with respect.
"They have won two consecutive championships, so obviously they have a good program," linebacker Chris Graham said. "They may not be at our level, but they have athletes that can hurt us if we overlook them.
"It's a test to see how disciplined we are."
Michigan, entering its 128th season, made Appalachian State its 138th opponent when the school wanted to rearrange the schedule to add an eighth home game and 12th overall.
The Wolverines, who hadn't played a Division I-AA program, agreed to pay their opponent from Boone, N.C., about $400,000 as a tuneup before hosting Oregon, Notre Dame and Penn State the next three weeks.
Appalachian State has played at LSU, Auburn, Kansas and North Carolina State in recent years, but hasn't beaten a major college program since a win over Wake Forest in 2000. In The Sports Network preseason poll, Appalachian State was the top-ranked team with 67 first-place votes to second-ranked Montana's three.
"Opening our season against Michigan will be a great test to see what we're made of," star running back Kevin Richardson said. "I think it's a great opportunity for Appalachian to continue to get its name out as one of the top college football programs in the country."
Richardson ran for 1,676 yards and a I-AA record 30 touchdowns last season.
The Mountaineers might be able to test Michigan's inexperienced secondary with quarterback Armanti Edwards, who threw for 2,251 yards and 15 touchdowns and ran for 1,153 yards and 15 scores last season to help his team average seven touchdowns a game.
"If we can do good against them, imagine what we can do to the teams that we're going to have to play that are going to count," Edwards said.
Appalachian State's defense, led by safety Corey Lynch, will be ready for anything after facing a Michigan offense that produced nearly 30 points a game last season and might be even better.
Michigan relies on a trio of four-year starters -- quarterback Chad Henne, running back Mike Hart and tackle Jake Long -- and plans to open the game with a three-receiver set.
"When you have some of the skill that we have at the wide receiver positions and can spread a defense out, that's positive," Michigan coach Lloyd Carr said.
While the Wolverines expect to play receivers Mario Manningham, Adrian Arrington and Greg Matthews together, they likely will hold back some plays to limit the look the Ducks, Fighting Irish and Nittany Lions will get as they prepare to play at the Big House later this month.
i especially like that last one where they would hold back plays, hahaha
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- What was supposed to be a tuneup turned into a stunner: Appalachian State 34, No. 5 Michigan 32. Julian Rauch's 24-yard field goal with 26 seconds put Appalachian State ahead of Michigan and Corey Lynch's blocked field goal in the final seconds sealed one of college football's biggest upsets. The two-time defending champions from college football's former Division I-AA were ahead of the nation's winningest program 28-14 late in the second quarter, then their storybook afternoon seemed to unravel late in the fourth quarter. Mike Hart's 54-yard run put the Wolverines ahead -- for the first time since early in the second quarter -- with 4:46 left. One snap after the go-ahead touchdown, Brandent Englemon intercepted an errant pass, but the Wolverines couldn't capitalize and had their first of two field goals blocked. Appalachian State drove 69 yards without a timeout to set up the go-ahead kick, but it still wasn't over. Chad Henne threw a 46-yard pass to Mario Manningham, giving Michigan the ball at Appalachian State's 20 with 6 seconds left. Lynch blocked the kick and returned it to the other end of the field as the final seconds ticked off, and his teammates rushed across the field to pile on Lynch as the coaching staff and cheerleaders jumped with joy. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=272440130

I'm not even an OSU fan (I do root for them but I dont call myself a fan) and I was going nuts...
I was with my cousin who goes to OSU, the bar cleared out with 4 minutes left, me him and some others stayed, the place went insane at the end...
Most fun I've ever had at a bar, we were leaving screaming stuff about Michigan having a good time.

Leave it to that state up north to provide plenty of ammo for the big ten bashers.
This doesn't say anything about the Big 10.. it says that App State and a handful of teams like them deserve a lot more respect than they get and either UM isn't nearly as good as everybody thought or they just took App State for granted...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POLL: should Carr be fired for this loss ?
1.) without question 2.) no doubt 3.) hell yes 4.) should have been after the first quarter

What did I tell you! I said it a couple days ago on this very thread! A big layoff coupled with an injury to a key player can is a recipe for an inferior team beating a superior team. I SAID IT! THIS PROVES IT! THE SAME CAN BE SAD FOR LAST YEARS NAT CHAMP GAME!

Wow, I'm not sure how Carr can keep his job after this. I would have to say that the president HAS to fire him now (or at least at the end of the season). Can you imagine if they lose to OSU again too?
Wow, biggest college football upset this year.

michigan should be taken out of the top 25...
i don't think their season is lost, but i don't think they have much of a chance at playing for a championship... they'd almost have to win out the rest and have every other team in bowl contention having 2 losses... which isn't going to happen...

Way to avoid me. This proves it! A big layoff coupled with an injury to a key player leads to an inferior team beating a superior team. -If you check the first couple pages of this thread I said the same exact thing a couple days ago. Nobody gave what I said any credibility. Flukes happen! as a Gators fan you are lucky for big layoffs and injuries to key players!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH

i don't know how you can say florida was an inferior team going into that game...
i mean we all thought ohio state was a better team, but in no way were they inferior...
we may have overlooked them, but not to the extent that michigan overlooked their opponent today

If there were no special teams in football then yea... plus East Carolina killed themselves with penalties...
Tech looked bad on offense until the fourth... I was hoping they'd put in their true freshman.... I dunno if it was the emotion of the day or if they were looking ahead to LSU... but they did not look good today.

and you can't say that michigan had a layoff, because if that counts as a layoff, then app st also had a long layoff...

I don't think that's enough. OSU will most likely not be the powerhouse they were last year....and sliding into a non-BCS bowl game to beat UTEP wouldn't mean anything if you look at his historic record against OSU and this App St. game.
UM can still win the Big Ten title, make it to a bowl game and win it too. But their season* is over, make no mistake about it.
* A season for a big time program is measured by getting a National Championship. UM can NOT get that this year no matter what.

When I say layoff, that's exactly what I mean. Let a team sit long enough, and it doesn't matter how good their players are. Today is a perfect example.

Well I think if they beat OSU they'll probably be in a BCS bowl... but personally I see them losing to both Wisconsin and us, so it really doesn't matter.

Sorry dude...the best team won last year...I have been respectful to this point....but the Gators were better at every position other than running back.
Yes....Guinn was a great player...and would have no doubt made a difference....
Answer me this...what would have happend had the Gators not thrown out the playbook in the second half??
I will answer that...we would have scored 60....so...Guinn would have made up what...46 points???
Sorry...I don't think so. No....I know so.
Teddy wasn't your problem. A superior team was your problem.
Watch the game again if you don't think Meyer showed some mercy and didn't pack it in by the mid point of the 3rd qtr.
Get a grip man....Look at it this way...you were first in the losers bracket.

It wouldn't be an upset, as much as it is a complete mistake in the first place.
Repeating what I said earlier,...and SO glad the Buckeyes weren't in Michigan's shoes today,...
