As a Buckeye, believe me it feels great when Michigan loses.
However, in this case it has proven my point in this thread all along,....
DON'T TAKE CHANCES YOU DON'T HAVE TO !!
The down side of this will be the 11-0 Buckeyes playing the 10-1 Wolverines in November -- not good -- in Ann Arbor, BigMo favors the Michigan Team.
The upside is the validation of 1-AA football. Appy State may as well have been the # 5 team in the Nation, according to the "polls." The polls --at this time of the year -- are MEANINGLESS. You don't screw with a team like Appy State, returning D1-AA champ -- in your first game back.
I'm sorry folks, I just don't think it was that big of an upset,...
I'm watching Georgia slowly demolish Oklahoma St... and they showed a group of guys (10+) with Go Georgia painted on their chests... then they turned around and it says "Ha Ha Michigan" on their backs.. LMAO!!!
Sorry Dawg, calling Appalachian State "Appy" is no different than referring to Ohio State as OSU,...it is not detrimental, meant to be detrimental, nor offerered as a detriment. If it offends you, it is NOT intentional.
Unrelated, bu a scary moment in the Tennessee game.....Eric Berry was carted off the field and reporting he hasn't moved his legs.......I hope everything is ok with him, and it wasn't serious.
Anyways, I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw that flash under the screen. I also cant believe I went thru 7 pages of a thread. 3 pages before the game even started.
I saw a few post of people wanting to buy an Appalacain St. jersey. I wonder what that looks like. I saw the mascot, that was pretty funny. Still better then Steely McBeam.
Whats also funny is, on that new college football show on ESPN, a couple things came up about michigan. One was Lou Holtz naming his top Heisman candidates. Chad Henne was his favorite to win the trophy. I didnt see his stats, but a Heisman winner doesnt lose to a 1AA school. May was also talking about Carr, about him being on the hot seat if they dont beat Ohio St.
Even though Michigan gets its best players from Ohio (Manninham),Michigan still cant beat a 1AA school
How this guy got a big 10-year extension for doing NOTHING is beyond me! Well, he did have a ok year with a team some other coach built before they were kicked out the door. That school is messed up.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
i wouldn't be surprised to see him end up back in the nfl in 3-4 years...
i think it's the better fit for him, he's a workaholic...
he should come coach the browns, we could have 2 coaches, charlie running the offense with his qb, and romeo handling the D, we'd be unstoppable in a short time
Better at every posistion for that particular game or on the season as a whole? Because if it's the later than that may be one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard.
And it's Ginn...
Time and change will surely show How firm thy friendship O - HI - O

It was a big upset. A 1-AA team has to play near perfect against a 1-A school, a top tier 1-A school for sure. Any given top five 1-AA school COULD give up to about a top 15 or so school a run for their money. Does it mean they would win? Of course not... There are many years YSU could beat and did beat 1-A schools. I wouldn't have been shocked if YSU would have beaten the buckeyes back when tressel was still coach...
As for taking chances... what's taking a bigger chance? Playing a mediocre 1-A school or a top tire 1-AA school? The answer is easy for most people... Either way you have to play the game and prove you are better...
And I don't see an 11-0 buckeye team going into michigan this year either... We'll see though. Michigan has a very big chance of completing tanking though..
The most over rated program in all of sports got beat by a team that lives up to the hype. This just goes to show Division 1 teams are not the only ones who know how to play football.

On that day UF was the best team in the nation and the better team... which is what I'm sure Peen meant/will say... let it go....

Oooh Rah, I get what you are trying to say but apperently you don't get what I am saying. Go to Boone, ask ANY ASU student, go anywhere and ask any ASU alumni, WE DO NOT LIKE BEING CALLED APPY. To us it IS detrimental. Ohio State students and alumni do not mind being refferred to as OSU, therefore it is not like calling them APPY.
I politely asked you to refer to us as App., ASU, or App. State., I AM a alumnius (sp? ), I am politely asking you again..........if you want to show us any respect at all, call us one of the above and NOT APPY.
Born and breed with OSU, App. State alumni, but bleed orange and brown.
Quote: Look I don't think it's going to happen, but I thought I would throw this out there as the College football season is about to start.
Appalachian is ranked #1 in I-AA Youngstown State is Ranked #5 (I think) The Univ. of Montana is Ranked #2 ( I know there is a poster on here who transfered there but I can't remember who it is.)
I know alot of you could give a hoot about these schools, but it should be fun to see both ASU and YSU (two top five I-AA teams) going up against the "Big Boys".
This is some good football and I really feel that at least the 1st half of these games could be fun to watch. Remember that in this division the National Champion is determined in a 16 team playoff.......and THAT IS SOME GOOD FOOTBALL.
anyway, here is the article:
And so it begins: A look at Appalachian State by Jim Carty | The Ann Arbor NewsMonday August 27, 2007, 3:53 PM
Well, here comes Appalachian State, with the kind of spread, no-huddle offense that has, in the past, given Lloyd Carr and University of Michigan defenses more than a little bit of trouble in the past.
We've got an Associated Press season preview on the two-time defending I-AA national champions in The Ann Arbor News today (yes, I-AA has officially been changed to "championship division" by the NCAA, but would you have any idea what I meant if I said championship division? Of course not).
Here's a key out-take:
(Appalachian State) owns the longest active winning streak in both levels of Division I at 14 games, becoming a dynasty in the hills of western North Carolina. Moore has built his program largely with local talent -- 69 players are from North Carolina -- and several Division I-A transfers, including defensive lineman Tim Washington (LSU), kicker-punter Julian Rauch (East Carolina), and linebacker Chase Laws (Army).
The Mountaineers emphasize speed -- Washington said the tempo at practice is faster than at LSU's workouts -- and the returning players have a mental toughness developed last season as they were targeted by every opponent during the defense of their first championship.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports that starting center Scott Suttle, who has started 38 straight games, may miss the game with a knee injury and be replaced by a redshirt freshman (injury info near bottom of link). That could prove significant.
The Charlotte Observer checks in with a quick-and-dirty look at key Appalachian State players and issues, including a clear indication of who your player to watch will be (tailback Kevin Richardson) and a look at SEC transfers Tim Washington (Louisiana State) and Quavian Lewis (Vanderbilt).
If you're looking for more on the Mountaineers, their website includes frequent practice reports dating back to when camp started (it may need to be explained to Michigan fans, used to a football program surrounded by the secrecy, that these are fan-friendly updates about what the team's actually doing. Crazy, huh?)

I have been showing respect for the Mocs all week, even going out on the limb to predict that Michigan had better have its bootstraps buckled down tight, or something to that effect,....anyway, don't be mad at me when next week's SI comes out -- "Happy In Appy Valley,..."
You get pretty defensive about your school, I have seen it on here before.
Am I being a bit defensive, yea, I problably am. But It's my School, I take pride in it.........I did before Sat. and I will continue to do so in the future when everyone forgets about us agian.
It's a messege board and alot of you guys like to dig, I appreciate that.......But twice now I have asked for just a simple little request for my school.......and yea, I guess for myself as well, but I guess I misjudged a little bit.
Respect of a schools name and a person's request must just be a little too much to ask for from some.
No matter, we still beat Michigan and I'll let it drop.
Born and breed with OSU, App. State alumni, but bleed orange and brown.
I may be in need of some close, personal correction as to it not having been an upset, but I'm very glad Ohio State did not have to open yesterday with those guys.
And please don't tell me YSU is in the same league/division. The 'Guinnies are nowhere near as good.
