Here's one other thing to think about that I don't think many people have considered: Basically everyone has assumed Dorsey has had a list of HC candidates since even before coming to Cleveland. What's to say that GW isn't already on that list prior to being named interim HC? This is a fair point. I have read that it's pretty much a given that a GM has "a list" of candidates he would hire as HC. It seems like a pre-requisite for a GM interview. I don't think.... I know none of us know who is on this "list." I would merely be speculating that GW is not on it. He very well may have been on the list, but I don't know how or where the two (Dorsey and GW) would have crossed paths. It's easy for us to say who we think we should hire. But Dorsey is hitching his wagon to whomever he makes the next HC, it would only make sense that he has mingled with the person he's about to make the HC. He's obviously dealt with GW now, so he very well may be on the list. And I hope the list includes HC traits and not just names of coaches he'd want to hire... (or both). I'm curious to see how it shakes out.

Just remember this: Kitchens has only been an OC for 6 games in the NFL. He was a QB Coach and a RB Coach but never an OC prior. Now close your eyes and picture this, he is doing it on the Buffalo Bills, they fired their HC and OC and promoted him from RB coach to OC.
Would you want us to sign him as a HC, ARE YOU KIDDING I can hear the lamenting, he's got NO EXPERIENCE, ONLY IN CLEVELAND etc, etc. etc.
Well I seriously doubt that any team would hire an 8 game OC never before heading an O, D or special teams, to be made a HC.
I mean Riley was a college HC at a big time school for 3 years...its not NFL experience but its experience and posters here are arguing that he shouldn't even be a consideration cause he doesn't have the experience.
I can see Kitchens as the heir apparent especially if Arians takes over because I think its reasonable to perceive that Arians would not be here for long due to his health.
Just call me Matthew McConaughey...lol
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

... 1st off i’d call u a liar but i know your not .. you gave him 33% more HCing experience than he will have AFTER THIS YEAR ENDS ... He has been the HC at OU or ANYWHERE else for that matter since 2017 ... that means he was a HC for the 2017 and 2018 seasons .. u do the math ... 2ndly i will call u a wuss for not replying to me directly ... wuss ... *LOL* ... Your telling me Rileys time in college is equals to Kitchens years in the NFL ... ya, thats comparable Matthew ... ... GMAB ... 8 games (when the years over ... u added on to Riley and deducted from Fred ... NICE .... ) .... as OC in he NFL with the rest of his resume puts him light years ahead of COLLEGE ONLY DUDE very day of the week and twice on sunday ... Sig bet wager bro .... Fred’s an NFL HC in 18 and your shiny new object isn’t? ... Let me know ...

I dont see Riley coming here. he has a good gig and a young talented QB and a loaded offense.
McCarthy, I dont see it. There was stuff going on in GB and I think he ends up with the Jets.
GW and Freddie. I am a huge GW fan but if I am an owner or GM. Can I get someone to do what Greg has done with this defense? Yes. Can I get someone to do what Freddie has done with this offense when 2 of the most respected coordinators in the game failed with the same roster? I honestly dont know and leaning towards I dont think so.
If i am a GM with a young QB that may have been struggling, I go after Freddie to do with my guy what he did with Baker and this offense. Its not just the improvement with Baker either. Run game is better. Blocking is better. Receivers are catching the ball and improving their routes.
He may only have a few games as OC but he served under some legends and listening to the guy, I would want to play for him.
I will be happy if we keep Greg in place but I continue to be more and more impressed with what Freddie has done and am willing to give him the keys.

Good point.. it may be more of WHAT is on his list and not so much WHO is on his list which makes sense considering you never know who is available at any given time. And you are right, the NFL is clearly a "who you know" kind of organization so you're right that we can't discount prior familiarity (or lack of) being a factor.

If Kitchen stays as the OC, then we hired a special teams guy, or a defensive guy.
I think that Kitchen has a shot at being head coach.
I can remember front offices hiring a head coach because he had the best plan, including coaches he would hire. Given how easily Kitchen assimilated to the Oac position, and how he had a plan, I bet he's got a plan to be head coach as well.

If it’s for a head coaching position we have to let him interview. thats not what i meant .... I meant do we hire him as HC and not let him get away ... IMO we have by far the best job ... NOT EVEN CLOSE when u take all things into account .... if we offer Fred he’s not leaving ... NO WAY .... I agree. Dorsey is the one who made him the OC. I distinctly remember when Williams was hired he was asked if he made Freddy OC and he said no, that decision was made up above. As I have pointed out and now you, Freddy played QB at Alabama. He was Mr. Football in Alabama as a high school player. He could play. He can relate to players and they to him. Players know other players. They know the difference between them and the guys who almost made it is a very thin line. The is mutual respect. Freddy has been a grinder in the NFL for a good number of years. I wouldn't have a problem with him as head coach. I am sure he would keep Gregg as DC and Williams could provide some senior leadership, a guy to bounce things off behind closed doors.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong
