The stat lines for Mahomes is just bonkers.
50 Touchdowns and 5,097 yards.
Think about that and do the math.
It comes out too: 3.125 touchdowns per game and 318.56 yards per game average.
That blows my mind. The only other person to do that was Peyton at 37 years of age.

He was a QB I wanted us to draft =(

Well, with Hue coaching he would be out of the league or a backup somewhere..
I confess I was a bit surprised Mahomes was taken that high, and that Hue never claimed it was the QB he wanted... LOL.
Deshaun was my pick last year, I confess I never thought Mahomes would be this good, although I tend to value Gruden's opinion, just like I do with Carr....

I agree with what you said. And I'm ok having baker. He should be in the vicinity of those numbers next season.

Mahommes is talented without question, some of the throw he makes are ridiculous.
He is also surrounded with a ton of talent. Hill, Kelce, Watkins, (previously) Hunt. We don't have anyone that good on our roster. When you add in Andy Reid, they are a dangerous offensive team. Scwartz might be the most consistent if not best RT in the league.
I also see him airmail some throws he should hit on. Which is the scary part, he has room to improve.
With all of that said, I think they are primed for a one and done. Defense is terrible, they miss Kareem Hunt a lot and Watkins is out.

I would agree. I admire the chiefs for how they handled the Hunt situation. But I guess we need to start a Hunt thread. Heaven forbid we talk about anyone other than Mahomes here.

crazy stats for basically a 1st year starter. I'm curious how the league (and he) will adjust
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

He is who some would hope Lamar Jackson could be.
He can run and pass on the run he is accurate and is in the right place at the right time.
The only thing is the last couple of games I watched from him. Teams put on a lot more pressure then before. Like just about any QB in the NFL he did not handle it well, he seemed even shook up on occasion and made some awful throws. So who knows if the honeymoon is over, I think we will find out a lot about him during the playoffs. But he definitely can be the biggest stud around, if they had a top 5 defense it could be a dynasty thing, but that will come and bite them in the ass as teams are saying...who cares about the risk, if we play it conservative he will tear us apart...If he gets stopped now and then and possibly throw a turnover too boot, lets go ALL out who cares if he beats us, he does that automatically if you don't go all out on him. Cause their D does not throw fear into ANYONE!!!

Was his first year on the bench a significant factor in catapulting him to such a successful second year? We'll never really know, but we saw him doing this in college too, so I think he would have had pretty good results had he started as a rookie.
So since this is a Browns board I'll say I'm glad Baker got his baptism by fire by starting most of his rookie season's games. It was absolutely the best primer for his second season.

Mahomes is the only QB I’d take over Baker in the long term. And it’s not close. Mahomes ability is ridiculous, combine that with brilliant offensive coaching and you get a monster.

It's easy to agree when we're talking about sheer talent. When it comes to moxy, leadership, willing a team to win - the jury's obviously still out. This year's playoffs will give us a little clue as to what the future holds in that regard. I don't think I'd say that I would take any QB over Baker in the long term... yet, but the skill level of Mahomes - WOW. If you could take TB12's DNA for killer instinct and implant it in Mahomes? If it's already there - look out!

Lamar will never achieve passing numbers like Mahomes.
He benefited greatly sitting behind Alex Smith for a year and learning the offense. He is in an ideal situation with Reid. Mahomes is the perfect talent for Reid and his offense.
At the same time he is just a super talent.
You can not teach what he has. When they played the Pat's it was so clear. Brady is a traditionalist. Trained and honed to throw with balance and proper mechanics.
Mahomes makes throws Brady would never attempt. Wouldn't even come into his mind.
Some athletes carve their own way with unique skills only they have. Jean Claude Killy, Ali come to mind.
Mahomes showed it in college but he needed to be harnessed some. And Reid knew how to work with him.
The sky is the limit for Mahomes. He may do things nobody has ever seen.

Mahommes makes Rodgers look like he can only throw from LIMITED PLATFORMS .... the “platforms” he can throw from are mindboggling ...
He makes some throws where he looks like a shortstop getting rolled while turning a DP ... its not just the platforms its the ARM ANGLES ...
Never seen anything like it ...
He’s gonna be FUN TO WATCH ... except when he’s playing us ... *L* ...

Right and the man that drafted both Mahommes and Baker is now sitting in our GM chair. That makes me feel very confident especially considering all the other positive moves he's made for us!!!

That pass where Mahommes was scrambling, looking right, and threw back across his body to hit the receiver, in stride, without even looking back at him was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. The arm motion was just stupid, and it looked like most QBs throwing a regular pass. Kid has great vision, and ridiculous arm talent.

I watched the dude fling a pass from his hip, with velocity and accuracy, about ten yards to a receiver toe-tapping the sideline. He looked like it took about as much effort as someone shooting dice at a craps table. Arm talent is unreal.

People seemed so concerned about who would be the next great QB with people like Brees and Brady close to retirement.
Mahomes is your answer.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

When the draft was happening I made the analogy of short stop.
Spot on platforms and angles.

I think the shortstop analogy that you and Diam used is extremely appropriate. His footwork on some of his throws reminds me of playing shortstop. And the crazy thing is that he even throws from some of those platforms.
What kills me is how wrong I was about his accuracy. I watched him in college and saw him miss a ton of easy throws and I wrote him off because I thought he was inaccurate. But, that's not the case. I was wrong once again...

Vers if you don't mind me pointing out some things I learned over time in watching college players as they enter the draft.
They are just beginning. Especially quarterbacks.
Sometimes when you watch their tape; mistakes jump out.
But I try to remind myself "watch what they do well".
See how they do that and how consistent they are at doing the things they do well.
Then look at their faults. Try and figure if those issues can be corrected.
Mahomes jumped of the screen when I first saw him although I knew he was somewhat of a project.
What has amazed me is how quickly he caught on. I thought he would be a int. machine. But he has learned the offense and he has learned NFL defenses (to a degree).
He is a rare dude. You watch and go "noo don't do that and damn he makes the play.

Agreed. Mahomes is rare and he could end up being great. Time will tell. He isn't an int. machine but I did notice he does throw them at the end of the few games when he was trying to rally his team. Something to watch in the playoffs.

I don't mind at all, bro.
I was wrong. I can admit it.
I find it hard to evaluate college qbs if they don't have to make pre and post snap reads. I have never said that they can't [despite what WSU says] but I do question whether they can if I haven't seen it.
That's all well and good, but I was dead wrong about Mahomes. He is way more accurate than I claimed.

Hey I agree. First glance you go "what is this guy doing?"
You can't throw like that and get away with it.
And then wham. One year on the bench and he comes out blazing.
Amazing.

Mahomes doesn't PASS the ball he throws it to the spot where it needs to be thrown. Whether its from the hip legs in the air body contorted...he has that knack to throw the ball where it has to go. Excellent athlete and QB
Pit...make that Mahomes and Baker I know that somehow hurts you to say it for some reason...lol

Doesn't hurt at all. I like the fact that we have Mayfield. Now let me see Baker's second season so I can see how he stacks up to Mahomes second season.
Mahomes has a year on Baker. Considering Baker didn't start every game and was handicapped in the first half of the season by Haley's O, we only really have eight games of "Baker being Baker" to go on. Apples and oranges.

Mahomes threw 35 passes last year in one start, Baker started 13 games... Baker's second year is not equivalent to Mahomes second year... pomegranates and kiwi.

They certainly are. One had an entire year to study the system. The other did not. And one let it show on the field more than the other.

He has scary stats. They have to be to carry their D. He is doing crazy stuff on the field, and he is fun to watch. Not sure they can get through the playoff picture as structured. But the offense is crazy good with him there. The HC keeps them close.

Like I said Baker is in a completely different place going into his second year. Then throw in he may very well have a different coach, different OC, different system...

Yeah. One played under two OC's in one year with zero time to prepare in either of those systems. One had a year to prepare in the same system.
One produced much better than the other. Yet you call that some type of fair comparison.
Alrighty then.

I get what u guys are getting at ... U cant really compare Jackson/Allen to Bake/Darnold or Rosen FAIRLY ... Only thing those two groups have in common is they play the QB position and were drafted in the 1st round of this years draft ... Its one of the major problems i have with FOOTBALL STATS when trying to compare INDIVIDUALS ... There’s way more variables in football than any other sport .... and the variables in footballl are made much more SIGNIFICANT when taking into account the extremely small sample size ... Carry on ...

I thought that was the entire debate. Comparing the two QB's. I don't see any way you can compare the two at this point. From coaching, to how long their respective teams have been built, to stability in their systems.
I think Baker is doing great all things considered. I think Mahomes looks better at this stage due to all of the variables I've mentioned and probably even more that I haven't.
I have a rule of thumb that I never try to call the jury in until a rookie has completed three seasons. That's after they've been drafted and not time on the field.
I would have to say that Mahomes is further along in the process and that's due to his time in the league and the fact that K. C. is further along in the development of their team.
If comparing the two isn't what you were trying to do, I'm not really sure what it is you were trying to do.
Some people think that starting games puts a QB further along than if a QB sits. I don't think you'll find a QB in his second NFL season, whether he started as a rookie or not, that's further ahead than Mahomes. I believe he's the perfect example of how sitting a rookie QB does just as much good as starting one.

I don't have time to watch as much football as I'd like to but I saw him play at least one game this year (that I can remember) and he was - quite frankly - incredible. A pleasure to watch play.

As far as starting or sitting. Each circumstance is different.
The player, the team, the record, coaching staff; a lot of variables.
