I am less than impressed with candidates and I'm really not happy if it is Kitchens as HC, or Stefanski for that matter.. I get being a young coordinator, but you're going to give the most important job to one that hasn't done any playcalling for a full season. If it isn't Williams I rather have Campbell or Eberflus Campbell doesn't call plays.

I think it's Kitchens with Stefanski as OC. Stefanski probably sees Hue joining up with Zimmer to be their OC. That gets Hue away from Baker and allows Hue to sneak around Zimmer to take his job when Zimmer's health tells him to give it up. JMO...no links available.

I think we should all start prepping ourselves for Kevin Stefanski to be named the head coach.

The Browns reportedly are considering Freddie Kitchens and Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski are the two finalists for the head-coaching job. How that question gets resolved may come down to the manner in which an internal struggle is resolved. Per a league source, the choice may come down to an internal battle of wills, with the football guys (led by John Dorsey) pulling one way and the analytics guys (led by Paul DePodesta) pulling the other. The problem is that both Dorsey and DePodesta report independently to owner Jimmy Haslam. The reality is that quarterback Baker Mayfield could break the tie, and his input definitely matters. For now, the thinking is that Dorsey (and Mayfield) prefer Kitchens, and that DePodesta prefers Stefanski to Kitchens. However it plays out, this may not end up being the kind of inspired hire that Mayfield’s presence could have sparked. That inspired hire may have to wait until the next time the Browns are looking, which as history tells us could come sooner than later. Link

Why not just give Williams (if he will agree) a one year show me contract? This way if rhey are not happy with him kitchens can become head coach

JMO. I feel the best way to go is promote FK to HC. If they want to hire Stefanski as OC that's fine. If GW wants to stay as DC fine, although I doubt he will, if not hire a DC that runs a similar D. Kitchens seems to be in demand because of the way our O came alive when he took over. I would keep him for that reason and the fact Baker seems to like and has thrived with him. If Kliff Kingsbury could get an NFL job I'm sure Kitchens would have no trouble signing on with someone else. We need to keep him and keep the momentum and continuity going. JMO

I'm glad Haley is Gone and if it's true that Dorsey wanted Haley and Depo didn't then maybe Depo is a good judge of People.. This is a difficult decision and they have to get it right... 2 voices may seem like it could be a bad thing ..But if Bakers voice is factored in then maybe the best man wins.. I honestly don't want to get to emotional over all of this just yet...

J/C,
Could it just be as simple as the Browns are beginning second interviews with some candidates? Maybe they do these 2 first and then others after this weekend's games?
Also, if it's Stefanski, how do we know it's a complete blow up as was suggested earlier? What system does he run that makes a blow-up necessary? I'm asking because I don't know, and I'm looking for info.

People in the know, mainly Ian Rapopport, have led us to believe that the job is down to Kitchens and Stefanski.
Stefanski is a west coast guy. His first NFL coaching job was under Brad Childress.

I'm not going to get all "up in arms"... the whole world said we were drafting Josh Allen til hours before the draft.
That said, I've been rather uninspired with the whole process. Not sure how you roll out the carpet for mass interviews but don't talk to Arians, McDaniels or McCarthy. Not because I really like any of those candidates, just because they are what would seem as "leading candidates".
I think Kitchens is "too much, too soon", and am not sure of the dynamics, regardless of roles, between he and Stefansky. But hey, I get paid to cook, not analyze NFL coaching prospects.
Thinking Kitchens is a "hot prospect" has been a head-scratcher for me since day one. Worrying about whether he stays after 2019 another one. If he (and Baker Mayfield) have a great season, I think it's clear who the real commodity is. I'd venture to say that after another year of growth from the rookie, it almost won't matter who we hire as OC.

It might not be true. Florio is wrong fairly often.
However, sometimes I wonder if the environment that Haslam creates is toxic. It seems like there are always reports of "internal discord" and/or "dysfunction" w/in the organization.
Each and every regime has been linked to the above issues. It's uncanny. Or, is it?

I'm glad it was Kitchens at least he has a relationship with Baker and the rest of the team, I am sooooo glad they did not hire some outsider just to say they did ...

That said, I've been rather uninspired with the whole process. Not sure how you roll out the carpet for mass interviews but don't talk to Arians, McDaniels or McCarthy. Not because I really like any of those candidates, just because they are what would seem as "leading candidates". Well, apprantly just because they were on ESPN list doesn't mean they were on Johns. Baker wasn't on anyones list either. McCarthy has ? marks with an outdated offensive system, and blew up with Arod - do you want to hire a guy that just had a fight with the QB to coach #1 overall pick QB you just drafted? Nah , I don't. McDaniels - dude lost all credibility when he left the Colts high and dry. What players out of NE are going to respect him. Baker called Hue fake for joinging the Bengals, what do you think he feels about McDaniels and what he did? Arians - Age, public campaigning for our HC job, etc. I don't see john as the type that would appreciate that. In fact, what did Kitchens say - "I don't campaign for jobs" or something of that nature. I think Arians attitude and campaigning had something to do with it. JMO. Baker is going into the same offense year two - that is HUGE. That is IMPORTANT. Baker and Kitchens really seem to like eachother, and have a chemistry. That is HUGE and IMPORTANT. You say a vast difference in Baker in a weeks time on the field under Freddie than under Haley/Hue. That is not a coincidence. Freddie was the right hire.

Speculation is cool. Stating those things as facts isn't quite as cool. Yet we all know that's how things work around here. I just chalk it up to the way things are and move on. I am going to comment on this. It's a message board. It's all opinion here. I don't take anything that you or Vers or anybody else posts as fact. I respect your opinions as fellow posters and friends. Many times it is fact, but many times it is opinion. I am smart enough to figure that out. You and I go back maybe 20 years now. Do you consider me a dummy? I'm not sure how you arrived at that question? Actually I think we were both saying pretty much the same thing. It's a message board and people throw opinions around as if they are facts. It's for each of us to sort it for ourselves. I've never considered you or many other posters on this board a dummy. There are exceptions to that, but you certainly aren't one of them. The point I was actually trying to make was that Vers should accept that people often don't clarify between fact and opinion so it would be best just to accept that as the way things are and move on. Sorry for the confusion.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
