I think we're discussing it because OCD put his foot in his mouth, so others are discussing on his behalf Freddie Kitchens is the best coach we could have hired this cycle. There was no sexy Chip Kelly type to draw our eyes, or anything of the sort. The closest was Stefanski and he will remain an OC this fall. It's nice for once to get the best person we can.

Why are we discussing his accent? Because the hire is almost universally liked.. so people had to find something else to fight about.

I think my hope is that teams will be searching for the next Freddie Kitchens within the next few years.

I wanted him to be our HC and after listening to him I am so happy he is

BIG DUMB HICK. It may not be what he is, but it definitely what he sounds like to me. There is nothing prejudiced about that, nothing wrong with that perception. All people from Alabama might talk like this and I would say the same about them. I'll bet if he talked with a NY/Jewish accent and promised you a bunch of free things that he couldn't pay for, you'd be one of the first to jump on his train.

Why are we discussing his accent?
Can we please get back to the fact that he’s the major reason our season got turned around, and now as a HC has surrounded himself with an excellent staff?
I said the day he was promoted to OC that for whatever reason, I really liked Kitchens for whatever reason.
Today’s press conference told me why: he’s the guy we’ve been searching for since 99. We’re in good hands. I like what he did at OC, I think he's likeable too... But I said he sounded like a BIG DUMB HICK (hoping he's not) and it triggered certain people. Oh well...

I actually like the accents present in the world society.
The southern accent/s. The Australian accent, the Boston accent, the British accent, the Indian accent (from India).
And, I'm smart enough to know that had I grown up somewhere else, I'd have similar traits. Ummm - I said the accent wasn't a problem. I'm from England. I grew up with accents that varied dramatically if you drove 40 miles east or west ... accent has zero to do with ability or intelligence.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

Odd comments OCD.
At the end of the day, what really matters is what happens on the field. Does the pass blocking, receiving, QB play, etc. continue to improve? Do the Browns win the AFC North for the first time since... I don't even want to think about it.
The improvements on offense when Kitchens took over were plain as day. I'm not sure I can remember that big of an improvement in such a short amount of time with the same players.
Does that carry over into next season? Does it carry over to different phases of the game, due to the shift in attitude or excellent hires on the staff? I don't know, but it's an exciting time to be a Browns fan.

Maybe if you said he sounded different instead of dumb...
Anyone remember the poster who used to post like he was talking Cajun ?
Anyway...Freddie is Freddie..His Dawg Pound Hoodie does all the Talking....
I kind of think the people down South have it right..take life slow and easy... Speaking for myself..things up North go way fast paced..
I can hear Freddie right now talking after beating the Steelers... " Momma always said" .." You cant keep letting them boys beat you Freddie "

Who forced Freddie into a suit? Was the stipulation for him to wear a suit that he also got to wear a hat? How many more times will that suit be on his body?

Freddie is man with an Alabama accent who has never worried about refining his public speaking. He talks slow, uses the phrase "all right" to pause and collect his thoughts, and he uses a lot of 'country wisdom' when he talks. If that makes anyone think he is unintelligent, then shame on them. He has OCs on playoff teams copying him.

Really enjoyed watching his intro presser.
I think his head & heart are in the right place.
Hopefully things pan out. I believe they will, as having a capable QB helps everyone look better.

I liked the look with the hat, khakis, and unbuttoned jacket. I was kind of hoping he'd show up in the Dawg Pound hoodie and crack open a Yuengling before taking questions, but not everyone is ready for that.

He seems like a friendly, down-to-earth kind of guy. Which, I believe, is the exact reason that the players respond to him as they do.
In the "He's an idiot." Baker clip, he almost seemed like Baker's older brother messi g with him.

I don't care how Freddie talks, but I want to add my two cents on a general stereotyping that is not correct.
I live in Columbia, SC. I was born in NY, grew up in Ohio and lived in California for a bit.
Very few people that I meet have southern accents anymore. The kids certainly do not. Times have changed and kids are growing up where they have easy access to the global media. The southern drawl is becoming a thing of the past in most southern communities, especially in urban areas.

I've heard him speak a few times before being hired as HC. I wasn't bothered by it then and so it doesn't bother me now. What I do sense from him is he has a way of reaching people. I'm all in with him. I can see why the players gravitate toward him. Then he delivers. He is just as innovative as McVey. He can get through to guys and get the most from them. I've always believed there are many ways to be successful. I think we've all heard the cliche do what you love and never work a day in your life. I kind of sense that approach in Kitchens.

The southern drawl is becoming a thing of the past in most southern communities, especially in urban areas. It's probably because kids talk like their parents talk. The dialect is changing because the southern population has been booming not because southern folks decided to stage another baby boom but because millions of northerners have moved south, either for work or lifestyle. If you notice, us northerners who moved south in time talk southern, we just don't sound southern. At least to born southerners. Head back north and we sound southern. I am not a good example. My mother was from Alabama but I was born in Ohio so I talked southern from a early age, but never picked up her accent to any large degree, but I caan if I waant.

A great quote I have always loved: "Great players make great coaches." Brady? Baker?

Thank goodness at least you didn't say Iron City For the record, I was dead serious about the Dawg Pound hoodie. I was only half serious about the beer. I also think Yuengling is the best beer for the money, though to be fair, the competition in that price range isn't exactly stout. (heh) Having it be a PA beer would be a little off. Scratch that and make it a Dortmunder from Great Lakes Brewing Company, or whatever style Coach Kitchens prefers.

My question is, as I think one other poster touched on is this. Will he be able to affect the other two phases of the game in the same manner as he did with the offense? After watching the piece on Bill Belichek in Cleveland the thing that stuck with me the most was his philosophy of building his sceme around what his players are actually capable of instead of force feeding his way. Everything I’ve read and heard about Kitchens sounds very much like that, which is why I believe he’s been so successful. Gives the players confidence and especially after FK went to them and asked what they liked to run (players) It also makes them feel responsible for executing the plays they personally suggested. Accountability. Genius if you ask me. Southern Drawl or not lol.

Kitchens knows how to keep Baker successful.
He runs a more balance attack a lot of the time. And with a runner like Chubb you don't abandon the run.
I could probably expect to see "Pass to open up the run" style gameplanning though.

He didn't sound dumb to me. Actually, pretty articulate. It is his dialect that makes him sound good ole boyish, but dumb - hell no.
He's a breath of fresh air instead of just hearing coach speak. Country dumb is not dumb. It's when a guy acts like he is dumber than he really is... acts like a hick to be likeable and fool others into perceiving he is dumb. He's not acting like a hick. That is what people from Alabama sound like. I don't know where you are from, I'll say Ohio. You sound funny to people from Alabama. Get over it. I've lived in Ohio, NY, Virginia and Texas. To my friends in Ohio I sound like a Virginia redneck To my friends in Texas I sound like a Yankee to My friends in Virginia I have a Texas drawl None of these accents bespeak of intelligence to assume they do tells me about ignorance.

Freddie says that he'll be the one calling the plays. I like the fact that this is the first time that I can remember that we assembled a staff this quick and these Excellent football minds were coming to us not us asking and then settle on whats left out there.
This guy was considered an excellent OC and he is coming here with full knowledge Freddie is calling the plays. But his most important job as I and others have stressed over the years is not play calling but EXECUTION!!!
Just so happy with Everyone that we have gotten. HC, OC, DC, ST, QB, RB, btw are we staying with our WR coaches the guy who came from LSU???
OL coach...these are all top guys in the industry with good reputations.
I think we are building something great here.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

It seemed to me that Monker wanted to be here, which is obviously a good sign
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I mean I don't care if he sounds like he's chewing a turd when he talks as long as he's winning games.
