The conspiracy talk could go the other way too, the league could market the hell out of a Brady v. Brees Super Bowl. Plus, both teams are "well liked" throughout the country.
And who wouldn't have wanted to see another Rams and Chiefs game? That was the most memorable game of the season for me, minus all the Browns games.
You could make conspiracy theories all day, but you can make them up for the losers had they won too.
Sorry Saints, it was a bad non-call. There was a bad non-call against the Rams the series before that could have helped score a TD (facemasking). Penalties are missed in big games, you have to play through it. Heck, when it happened to us in the Raiders game, we still could have gone for it, stopped them or won in OT...but we didn't. Same with the Saints.
The league didn't orchestrate the winners. The Super Bowl isn't like the other major sports, most everyone watches regardless.

Brady's only pass threats are RBs, Edelman, and Gronk. No deep threat. Gordon really screwed them over too. He screwed himself over too. He could be in this game, one game away from a Superbowl. No question about it.

What a shame the refs watching in NY can't review calls like this!!!! Why cant they? change the procedures! I think they should. Review or challenge any call....go for it! I've already explained on here how to do it, limit the replays to a certain time limit, 1 minute or less. Plus, have a replay center call in the decision, I can't stand we have to wait for the ref on the field to run over to a monitor. All of us on our couch have already seen the play 8 times and know the outcome before the ref looks under the hood (heck, we know the decision after the 2nd replay in 99% of the times). Speed up the replay process and expand it. That would give teams a chance to fight plays like Brady getting hit in the chest or that missing DPI.

Everyone is afraid of too many replays....trim them to a maximum and keep the same system of challenge numbers. You could even toss in a yardage penalty if you're wrong as a extra threat to challenge something minimal.

I think that coachs's challenges should exist in the final 2 minutes just like the rest of the game. Expand the number of replays to 3 per half, and allow any call to be challenged.
Myles Garrett gets choked out on a key play? Why can't that lack of a holding call be challenged? Pass Interference, either way, why can't that be challenged? If the NFL really wants these calls to be called correctly, then why not allow any call to be challenged?

I agree the ref's in N.Y. should be able to correct a blatant bad call like yesterday's. The Saints got robbed and it probably cost them a Super Bowl appearance. I know how I feel when it happened to us in the games this year; lousy and disgusted. Imagine how it would feel with the Super Bowl on the line?

I would also add the ridiculous non call when Baker slid and was hit in the head, and the officials just made up their own rule on the spot. Why can't those things be corrected? The list goes on and on.

You either fix the replay system for ALL games or leave it alone. I don't get this nonsense about only caring about plays in the last 2 minutes of any game or the playoffs. Bad calls can happen at ANY point in ANY game that could potentially affect the playoffs. As Browns fans, we already know this.
After 55 years, I'm walking away from this dumpster fire. Good luck to everyone who continues to hang on. You'll need it.

Honestly, they should probably have a "booth" official. They can buzz down to the field before the next play starts and essentially "throw a flag" based on a first glance replay.
Also take the stupid "Head Official to the monitor" junk out of the game and let the booth official have any replay call made within 30 seconds. Just correct the obvious stuff and do it quickly.

It's so maddening when every fan on TV can see an obvious missed call, while the officials are huddling on the field making wild guesses discussing what happened the previous play. Just add a video official that's an extension of the officiating crew with a real-time audio link to the ones on the field. Anything that needs to be corrected can be done in seconds. Of course, the NFL would miss out on the revenue of the dog and pony show where the refs go over to the booth and they can sneak in a few more commercials, but at a certain point, the quality of the product has to matter too.

At what point do you just make the officials on the field irrelevant and have a few there to announce the official calls that were made by an entire staff watching monitors?
Other than relaying the information, they can spot the ball, call for the measurement (which could also be automated), call timeouts, and break up fights... and one dedicated to throwing the flag for defensive offsides so the QB can see it and know he has a free play.

If this was the call, where the player ran arms up chest to chest into the other player at the goal line, and impeded him from turning inward to get to the ball, and the defender didn't even look for the ball as it passed by a foot or so behind his back.
If it was that play? If I remember right, when I saw it on TV live speed, it didn't look like pass interference,
I don't know if it were the angles or what, but it looked liked
I don't know maybe it was the angles I viewed it by, but it looked like,
When it was live, it looked like both players, (defender and wide receiver) were running parallel away from the line of scrimmage, toward the back of the end zone, and when the ball arrived, they both put up their hands, which got intertangled and nobody caught the ball,
Now, granted it may have been an angle from behind the receiver, so the defenders progress toward hitting the defender was an optical illusion that it didn't occur.
I'm just saying, "live" I didn't see pass interference.
Ahh Screw it, You all are just going to call me a troll, trolling trolling, what am I a trolling motor, what am I trolling for?
I just didn't see pass interference, (until the replay) it's a game fast, it's a fast game.
Whatever, it's a final 4. two teams have to go home.
It's not always the best team OR FAIR. Whatever.

Considering the refs on the field have shown themselves to be pretty incompetent this year, this is probably the route they should start going. Although, we've already seen on a couple occasions, the line judge blow obvious false starts, so maybe that asking to much of them as well.

lol thank you for sharing that. hilarious. Sad I'm gonna have to not watch the SB this year. Two questionable ref decided games making for a really boring matchup (personal opinion). Hopefully next year the Browns are in it and then it'll be fun

You cannot challenge pass interference. If this was a close call that could go either way but my protest is that this was so so obvious that is what bothers me...yeah it could be anytime of the game but it wasn't IT actually decided the game as the Saints by all purposes should of had a first down and kneel for their SB participation. Instead ended up losing the game and out of the SB.

Saints/Rams outcome, sure but what was the questionable call in the Chiefs/Pats game? The roughing the passer was totally bogus, but the ref behind Tom threw it, which from his perspective looked like the defender hit his dead. Other than that, everything was right. Dee Ford WAS offsides and Edelman didn't touch the punt.

even if you miss the PI, there was very clear defenseless/hit to the head/leading with helmet that could have been called. Playing devils advocate here but what if Payton does what 99% of coaches do there and run on first and second to run the clock. We might not even be talking about this penalty

lol good point but just like a fumble that Wasn't called you can challenge it. If these guys are going to be incompetent they should automatically go to NY and view the tapes and make the call from there.
Especially in lets say Playoff games. Especially the end of the game where an incompetent call of any nature made or not can change the game. Go like college and add pass interference as part of the game that can get viewed.
Has to be extreme to be able to overturn the call on the field. Like if he grabbed the WR and it turned him slightly, possibly letter of the law its pass Interference but that is not enough to over turn the none call made on the field of play.
But something like a guy tackling the WR...
I don't want review every freaking play but what can you do to fix this. At team is in the SB that should not be, that is all I know. Now I got to watch and see how smart McVay is, why he taught his guys to tackle the WR???

I don't know what the ultimate answer to this is and there are guys in NY getting paid big bucks to figure this one out. As you mentioned, we have a team in the Superbowl that doesn't deserve to be there. Whatever they need to do to fix it going forward, they need to do and over-compensate if necessary. This is a bogus Superbowl we have coming up and while I'll watch simply because it's the last game of the year, this game will have an asterisk next to it, even if only in our minds.

That will take care of things.. Most times and bad call early in the game can be overcome I'd think. If this particular call had happened 5 minutes into the 4th quarter, (it would have been challeged) but even if overturned, could have been overcome. Happening that close to the end, that doesn't leave time to recover,, so a challenge would be a good answer I think.

or maybe only be allowed limited challenges for the game, but just be allowed to review penalties/no calls. Use them how you want.

or maybe only be allowed limited challenges for the game, but just be allowed to review penalties/no calls. Use them how you want. Yep. I say just keep it simple. PI is the most game changing penalty in football. A no call can prevent a TD, a bogus call can only be measured by how far a QB can throw the ball. In essence, if a QB could throw the ball the length of the field, we could have a PI call that results in a 98 yard penalty. Bad calls on PI have impacted the game more than any other. Just add that to the review list and change nothing else. A coach can order review of a PI call, or non-call, at any time, as long as he still has a challenge. Automatic review in the last two minutes and OT.

Grab your popcorn. Rams-Saints outcome fuels lawsuit seeking a Rule 17 do-overPosted by Mike Florio on January 22, 2019, 12:13 PM EST A Sunday night item explaining a rule that, in theory, gives the Commissioner the power to order a do-over as the remedy for extraordinary unfair outcomes apparently has fueled one lawsuit, and counting. Via WDSU.com, a New Orleans lawyer has filed a lawsuit seeking to compel Commissioner Roger Goodell to invoke Rule 17 of the official rulebook and replay the balance of the NFC Championship game from the moment Rams defensive back Nickell Robey-Coleman wiped out, without consequence, Saints receiver Tommylee Lewis before a pass intended for Lewis arrived. The New Orleans lawyer, Frank D’Amico, also has issued a press release that copies and pastes extensively from the original PFT story on the issue, without attribution. (Hopefully, D’Amico’s legal skills far exceed his P.R. abilities.) A Lafayette law firm separately has informed the NFL that litigation over the outcome could be coming. Lawsuits like this very rarely prevail. But the league will have to dot some i’s and cross some t’s to get out of this one, especially since D’Amico’s lawsuit undoubtedly will seek emergency relief aimed at forcing the Rams and Saints to reconvene in New Orleans for the final 1:49 of regulation, with the score tied at 20 and the Saints having a first down just inside the L.A. five. Given that the lawsuit has been filed in Louisiana state court, the publicly-elected local judges may be inclined to take a more favorable look at this, forcing the NFL to potentially scramble through appeals courts and/or federal courts to avoid what could start as a half-joke and quickly become a deadly-serious problem for the league. At a minimum, a state-court judge could force the NFL to emerge from hiding and answer pointed questions about what happened on Sunday, when Rule 17 applies, and why it shouldn’t apply here. Link

Frank D'Amico I would advise you to visit his website.. he is a personal injury lawyer and his slogan is "The Strong Arm of the Law"... I don't know whether this will gain steam or not but he's getting the publicity out of it that he was hoping for.

They have a camera filming every angle and replaying every bad call. They just need to use them for everything. Screw the egos of the officials. Technology is being used in every facet of the broadcast. If a blatant bad call is clearly visible from a replay, it should be corrected. If not, get rid of all the endless replays of every moment of the game.
