Politics is the low hanging fruit of comedy. It's daily, it's newsworthy, there is always material.
It is constantly a headline and relative to many people. That's why it's so popular. But it is rather low hanging fruit when you have someone in The White House who pretty much writes your material for you.
I guess comedians could do comedy about things that aren't relative, changing or newsworthy.
