I would say your example is much more confusing that Haslam's. ESPN gets Haslam's money. But it's actually your community that benefited from your contributions to the township. Those who take those bids and hand out those contracts are in no way directly impacted from whether you contribute or not. Their income stays the same no matter.

The only one's that suffers from a lack of your donations are the people in your community that benefited by what those donations were spent.

Yeah, you really stuck it to those guys!

If one is going to use donations to lobby for work, then make sure you're donating to the politicians, not a community charity.

Nah. I didn't stick it to them. (I know that comment of yours was a snide, smart aleck comment)

If they don't have the decency to even allow me a bid, why would I have the decency to contribute money to them? I already pay taxes to them.

I'll DONATE my money where I see fit. Thanks.

Oh, 1+1=2. You going to try to bash me on that as well?

No, I'm just hoping you can do the basic math on this one.

Were the donations you speak of campaign donations to them? I would guess not. According to your post they were donations to your community. So you didn't like what they did and your wrath was to take donations away from your community.

Just pointing out the obvious. Sure, you can make your community pay for something those guys did. You have every right to. Makes perfect sense.

Seriously - why does anyone care?

ESPN was in the right to run the story they ran, and to keep running those kinds of stories.
Pilot - Flying J & Haslam are in the right to end their advertising deal.

There are no bad guys here.
This story is a non-story except in that having a reporter call Haslam "a pouty baby" is actually, ironically, that reporter being a pouty baby.

I just pointed out the facts of your actions and what you did and didn't actually accomplish by it. If that feels like an attack, maybe you should reconsider those actions. I don't make the news, I just report it.

I hope my spelling and sentence structure are okay.

wink

Plus a public entity SHOULDNT base contracts given out based on donations, thats a slippery slope. You donated to the improvement of the community, but now expect to benefit from it. They went with a lower price, which they are supposed to do

If Haslam doesn't wish to be the target of expose journalism, then I suggest he acts accordingly.

All this rampant speculation about Flying J's motivation for pulling the plug on ESPIN...How about, households nationwide are pulling the plug on ESPIN, and it just might make sense for a national brand like Flying J to get a bigger bang for their advertising buck?
