The NFL and lawyers for Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid announced Friday that the two parties have reached a resolution in the players' collusion case against the league. Kaepernick and Reid filed a grievance in 2017 claiming NFL team owners were colluding to keep them off of NFL rosters.

"For the past several months, counsel for Mr. Kaepernick and Mr. Reid have engaged in an ongoing dialogue with representatives of the NFL," both parties said in a joint statement. "As a result of those discussions, the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances. The resolution of this matter is subject to a confidentiality agreement so there will be no further comment by any party."

Kaepernick made headlines in 2016 when he began kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality. The following year, Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the 49ers when it appeared the team would cut him during the offseason. He remains unsigned.

The NFL Players Association said they were not informed of the details of the settlement but were supportive of Kaepernick and Reid.

Colin Kaepernick, Eric Reid Settle In Collusion Grievance Against NFL

Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid ended their collusion grievance against the NFL on Friday, according to a joint statement between the NFL and Kaepernick's lawyers Mark Geragos and Ben Meiselas.

"For the past several months, counsel for Mr. Kaepernick and Mr. Reid have engaged in an ongoing dialogue with representatives of the NFL," said a statement released on Friday. "As a result of those discussions, the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances. The resolution of this matter is subject to a confidentiality agreement so there will be no further comment by any party."

The NFL Players Association issued the following statement:

"Today, we were informed by the nFL of the settlement of the Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid collusion cases. we are not privy to the details of the settlement, but support the decision by the players and their counsel. We continuously supported Colin and Eric from the start of their protests, participated with their lawyers throughout their legal proceedings and were prepared to participate in the upcoming trial in pursuit of both truth and justice for what we believe the NFL and its clubs did to them. We are glad that Eric has earned a job and a new contract, we continue to hope that Colin gets his opportunity as well."

Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL in October 2017. The former 49ers quarterback has not played since the 2016 season, going unsigned in free agency in each of the past two seasons. Kaepernick drew attention throughout the nation in 2016 when he began to kneel during the national anthem in protest of police brutality and racial injustice.

Reid signed with the Panthers in September 2017. He joined Kaepernick in protest during the anthem with the 49ers, and was also a member of the grievance against the NFL.

Kaepernick went 28–30 as San Francisco's starter from 2012-16. The 49ers won the NFC and lost Super Bowl XLVII in 2012.

doesn't that fly in the face of the actual claim tho?

The league is conspiring against them, but he just got a 3 year deal?

Specifically with Eric's claim, although I haven't looked at it since it started, it has to do with the Bengals, and the time spent after being cut or released with the 49ers, also I think he was a pro bowler the year he hit FA and wasn't signed until midway through the season? Again, it's been awhile, so I'm not exactly familiar with all the details.

I always felt that Kaep was being blackballed by The League....Hopefully he gets a nice chunk of $$, and maybe can reclaim his career which seemed pretty promising...…

Though, I'm not too sure any team will sign him.....

I think his career is pretty much over with...…

And I think that's unfortunate, given his actions were motivated by his own sincere beliefs, and what he thought was the right thing to do.....in a moral sense....

Its a shame he became such a focal point for those who opposed the ideas associated with a movement that literally branded itself Black Lives Matter...He just quietly made a statement, showing his support, in silent solidarity with a cause that he felt strongly about...and nearly overnight, he became a lightening rod of controversy.....simply because of his beliefs and his willingness to wager his public image and eventually his whole career in support of something dearly important to him.....

The way it all played out is tremendously sad....

It was pretty obvious that Kaep was being black balled. There's more good NFL QBs than ever before, but the number is still under 20. 1/3 of the league could've used his talent I've the past few years.

I wouldn't sign him strictly because the guy is a punk. I remember those pig socks he wore.

So I looked at this tonight and he was not coming off a pro bowl season, he was 26 at the time though. But more importantly, and why I looked it up, he was signed right after the Panthers owner had to sell the team after being ousted as a serial sexual harasser.

He also said he got randomly drug tested seven times in the 13 games he played last season.

Which was disputed by the team, and the testing authority.

There's a joint NFL/NFLPA statement refuting Reid's assertion.

So the guy has 2 so-so years at QB but wants to be paid like he's a top 5 QB in the league and nobody signs him so he sues the league saying they are conspiring against him and then gets paid $50 mill, according to rumors, to settle.

That's what I find the funniest in all of this. After his last two seasons he was mediocre at best. But he was still demanding starter money. That makes him as guilty, if not more guilty of creating his situation than the NFL did.

Almost guaranteed the settlement has a clause he can't play in the NFL again. Otherwise teams would be forced to sign him or get sued again.

I am just amazed that a guy who made himself an anathema to every franchise, and many of the NFL's fans .... and who then turned down backup roles/pay, got a huge payday as a result.

It's often the way entities who have vast amounts of money handle situations just to make them go away. It's also a big reason we see so many frivolous lawsuits.

Good for Colin and I am in agreement with CHS that there are plenty of 2nd stringers and even some 1st stringers who Colin would be an obvious upgrade. So it was pretty obvious he was being denied simply for exercising his 1st amendment right to protest. Meanwhile, we see several teams giving players charged with abuse a 2nd chance.

If you think you have protected 1st amendment rights at work, go into work and unleash a profanity laced political diatribe in front of your boss, and customers or clients. Start showing off personal wear items, like, say, socks .... with messages that most of your clients or customers would consider offensive.

I wonder how long you'll keep your job.

He was also offered a backup job with the Seahawks a couple of years ago which he turned down.

The guys 2 best years he only averaged 266 completions for a 59% completion rate, 3283 yds, 20 tds, 9 ints, was sacked 46 times per year on average, and finished 15th in QB rating on average for those 2 years yet he thinks he should automatically be given a starting job and top pay for a QB.

It says right in the article that it was before he started his protest, and while he was still in SF. They were discussing a deal if he was traded to Denver.

If he was still with the 49ers how did the Broncos offer him a contract?

If discussing a trade, teams often allow contract negotiations.

Good for Kap. He threw down the gauntlet and the league blinked. They decided it would be cheaper to reach a settlement than to put it in the hands of a potentially sympathetic jury. Their "Shield First" policy only costs $60-80M, which is pocket change in the grand scheme of things. A sympathetic jury could've awarded hundreds of millions in money and cost millions more in bad press. This has absolutely nothing to do with Kap's value as a QB.

The sad thing is that I agree w/the cause, but man, of all the people to be put out in front. Sad. It's a great cause, but this joker didn't even vote. Wearing socks w/pigs dressed as cops. Supporting Castro. He started this crap because his girlfriend was/is into the movement.

There are so many great black men and women supporting the cause, but they get ignored for a fraud.

That's very true. I was thinking about that as I typed out that post.

I think the dude is a phony and I really wish it would have been another face to be the front guy...........but regardless, the message is very important and it has brought awareness to to an issue that needs addressed.

There were definitely choices afforded to that individual that Kap didn't make the best use of.

This is the pathetic part of the entire situation, in my view. The reaction to the method of protest overshadowed the actual issue. It became a cacophony of noise generated by tiny minds focused in the wrong direction which consequently made it about the outrage over Kap's form of protest instead of about the actual injustice being carried out in so many cities. So, good for Kap. Take the money and move on.
