j/c: A certain poster can say I was being untrue when I questioned Collins' pass coverage. I also said he was good against the run, but I don't think I was wrong in saying that. So..........I decided to do a little research. When targeted in space in 2018, opposing receivers caught 33 of 43 passes thrown his way for 397 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, resulting in a 127.8 passer rating against, a clear departure from the 2016 (70.1) and 2017 (94.8) seasons. According to NFL Next Gen Stats’ Coverage Success Rate metric, Collins ranked 81st out of 90 defensive backs who were the nearest defender on at least 50 targets, allowing a 71 percent completion rate compared to 61 and 62 percent in each of the two years prior. Conversely, Collins thrives near the line of scrimmage, where he is a relentless tackler who was able to stop a rushing play dead in its tracks. Mosley is a Pro Bowl player who is only 26.
He would help any team.
Collins is a Pro Bowl player who is only 25. He would help any team. 6 years/$84 million ($45 million guaranteed) from the Skins.

I just went over the nfl.com top 101 free agents. Man, I'm not excited for a single one. Just get a decent DT to hold the fort until we get to the draft and match (within reason) whatever offer Perriman gets at WR. I use to want the Chargers wideout as an alternative, but speculation is that they are looking up to $12 mill per year with this free agent WR class. Get out of here with that, he's an 8 mill guy (9 tops). I know I thought Jarvis was a 12mill guy (and he got 15), but that was a 25% raise to come to a team everyone was scared of and help change the culture. A 50% raise for Williams (from 8 to 12 mill). Pass. C'mon Perriman, you established yourself as a viable X in Cleveland with Mayfield. Just get it done.  2 years and if it works out you get a payday. If it doesn't, you can still buy a candy bar of the same name. Still sticking with Gunther at DT, Perriman, and a veteran interior lineman (probably still Lang). At least one solid depth DB but that can be had after the draft. Most boring Free Agency period ever. Oh well, at least we'd still have plenty of cap space next year.

Oh, and thanks a lot Collins for blowing up the safety market (guess that's what we get for not getting Randall an extension already. Or should I thank Dan Snyder? Going to have to wait until the Safety market collapses again before paying Randall now. Oh well, we have all year.

Another ignorant move by Daniel Snyder.
I was really hoping the Browns would be players this year due to having guys like Baker, Myles, Ward, and Chubb on rookie contracts, but some of these deals are insane.
Teams are throwing stupid money around on guys that aren't all that.

Teams think they have to spend it because it's available to them. Washington specifically is going through a PR nightmare. Maybe throwing some money around will distract people from the rest of the disaster.

From what I said above: My plan for free agency would not involve signing many free agents. Veteran players are available through trade for little compensation and with almost no guaranteed money. The Patriots just got Michael Bennett for basically nothing. Also, if you make trades (and signed released players) you don't lose compensatory picks (which I expect we will get when somebody signs Tyrod Taylor, Breshad Perriman, and BBC).
Sign released players. Trade for veterans.

Sign released players. Trade for veterans. We agree about this. I'm a little disappointed that we didn't land anyone, but I would be upset if we had overpaid for any of the guys who have reportedly signed. This has been the most irresponsible day I can remember.

In a similar vein, I wouldn't want the team to overcommit dollars to Tyrell Williams. Rather draft a guy who can come up in our offense and just compliment our stable of receivers.

I agree. I'm worried that is what we'll do. It wouldn't be a horrendous decision, but I can see Dorsey making that move.
Btw------I think Perriman is gone. Did you see how Drew and AB manipulated the Steelers to get AB that guaranteed money? Man!!!

I was bummed when i saw the colts signed Futchess ... not a fan of williams but if Perriman don’t come back when he finds out theres no market for him he’s really all thats out there ... and he’s gonna be way overpaid ... not much we can do ... Dumb money passed out today ... just stupid contracts ... I still hope we sign Mosley ... its going to be a disguisting amount of money but i don’t care ... IMO he’s the only worth it .... Dang .. the money thrown around today for players that don’t come close to deserving is off the charts ... I wonder what Thomas is gonna get after the collins deal ... good god ..

Weird year. Yup, but like we all re-learn every few years you can't really judge this year's money on last year's. When the cap goes up and everyone has some money to burn, stupid things happen that resets everything. That said, I would not want us to do anything too stupid just to get one player. He's good, but he isn't a Make or Break kinda player.

What worries me the most right now is how much money our guys who will be reaching free agency in the next couple of years.
I can almost guarantee Randall will be gone. Time to find his replacement.

Anyway, the cost of business goes up. At least we aren't seeing rookie QBs signing $54mil contracts anymore.
The big dogs are going to eat. Just the way it is. Now that most of the big dogs have been fed, maybe we can concentrate on signing a few solid players. There are still a lot of them out there.

The new CBA is in 2020 I believe. I bet the salary cap goes up significantly, that's why teams are throwing out stupid money - getting these guys signed now, before they are even MORE expensive. JMO.
