That is interesting Peen.
I am of the mindset that the Browns are now in a position where they need to target young super talent.
In addition they now have the luxury of bringing him along as his injury heals.
They can address positions like safety and linebacker through the draft in later rounds and free agency.
You can never have enough really good big men. It is hard to get dominate big men. They go early in the draft. They are expensive free agents.
So if Simmons is really good and he will slip because of his injury and you can get a player like that without killing their future. Yes. Good move.
Apparently the Browns like him from the reports.
So you have to see when you can get him in relation to other players you may covet near your pick at 49.

I want instant gratification as much as anyone, but if Simmons is there, I wouldn't mind the pick. Before he got hurt I was wanting him at 17. After, I didn't want him there, but at 49 it could pay big dividends long term.
Just have to wait and see what is there. We can draft a starting SS at 49 or a good corner. I don't need to know about the player, I don't need to know if he is the greatest D line player to come out since 1946 or not, for me to hold the opinion I hope the Browns stay away from the D line with their first, (next) pick. Everytime I read the thread title, I just want to shout. Move Up! For Who! 2. They Already did, For Beckham And I've been hearing about how great the next best D line player is going to be since 7 guys before Ted Washington, and that's just interior guys.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Athyba Rubin was a 6th round pick, IIRC, by the Browns. And I'd rank his career with the Browns as on par with any other Browns inside DL, since 1999, save Orpheous Roye, maybe, and he was brought in from the Steelers, not a first round pick by the Browns.
Not "every" year do they have to "always" love to love the chance to spend a high pick on the DL, maybe they can be found elsewhere.
If everybody had like minds,

j/c...does this mean I'm watching the first round now...lol I’ll be watching for this reasons and others. It’s always good to see where the top talent goes. Also to see who the enemy (Pit, Balt, Cinci) chooses. Though sometimes it makes me sick to my stomach when top talent drops to these guys. Or when my beloved Buckeye players become dead to me by holding up an enemy jersey on stage on draft day. It’s real life drama.

If I had a guess that counts Simmons represents an interesting target.
Because he is a highly rated guy that will slip because of injury.
If there was LT tackle that we could get without giving up future high picks that maybe a consideration.
Any other positions I think we hold pat.

Things could get interesting ... The question will be what will we have to give up?

If Dorsey is, in fact, considering moving back into the 1st round and the only visit with any player considered to be 1st round talent thus far is Simmons (albeit injured) and getting an additional year out of a first rounder on contract, I would bank on Simmons being the player. If I had to guess, Patriots at #32 would be approachable.

This time of year, I'm sure Dorsey is "considering" lots of things.

I'm out on moving up. Moving up into the back end of the first round only makes sense if an elite athlete is falling for off field concerns. Simmons would seem to fit that bill.
Other than that, the backend of the draft is monster bust territory.

Listening to this interview gives more context. Dorsey said he’s open to everything, including moving up.

If it isn't the chart teams are using, his attempts to "update" it are moot.
In the end, teams are going to use the value they see.

Well only that one season where we traded all our draft picks - I think our first pick was in the 4th??? It was a terrible draft class so no too bad. 2008 our first pick was Beau Bell.
Son this is the first since then that we don't have a first round pick. So I have no real history for this on what to do...lol
