For the Browns to trade back into the first round John Dorsey would have to be in love with a certain player, and be willing to mortgage a good portion of our future draft capital ...
1. Do you think Dorsey would do it?
2. How far do you think he would trade up top 10-15 or Bottom 10?
3. What would it cost next years 1+?
4. Would you be ok with that type of move?

1. Seems very unlikely. 2. The furthest you could go without giving up a 1 without looking it up would be like 25 tops. 3. Yes 4. No, the bust rate for guys at the bottom of the 1st is just as high as our 49.
Unless someone drops for off the field reasons there is almost nothing I would trade up for. We have a QB, we have playmakers on offense, just can't see it.

Unless the kicker we want is there at 22, I don't see us moving up.
That's two jokes...a kicker and the famed 22 spot. Ugh.
Seriously, BpG nailed it.

If there's a player he really likes, I could see him trading up. (maybe to the Raiders 3rd 1st rounder) Plus, if he moves into the 1st, he gets the 5th option year, which can be very important for a team.
I would actually be surprised to leave this draft with more than 4-5 drafted players overall.

That would create a lot of first night drama. I would rather just hold on until 49 and not lose next years number 1 etc.
However, if Dorsey likes someone in the top 32, let Dorsey be Dorsey.

Speculation with 48 picks ahead of us?
Who the hell knows?
Top half of the draft? I do not see that happening.
From maybe pick 25 on down? Possible but the right guy would need to be there and so would the value.
Above pick 48 to the top of the second round? Again possible if they see the guy they want and can strike the right deal.
Keeping in mind it takes two to tango.
The right guy, the right trade partner and the right deal.
Way to many moving parts to make an accurate assessment.

1. Not likely, but I think everything is possible.
2. Bottom 10, I can't see him giving up next years first (plus other picks possibly).
3. Depends on how far we move. #49 plus next year's second would get us into the bottom 5 or 10, add in a 3rd and it would definitely get us to bottom 10.
4. Not really. Maybe if Devin White dropped into the 20s, but that is unlikely to happen.

1. Do you think Dorsey would do it? Probably not at all. Wasn't one of the big reasons given for Dorsey trading a first for OBJ was that he believed there were only 15 or so players worth a first round grade? If there was someone worth trading up into the top 15, he probably would have held onto the first rounder. And it's doubtful he trades up into the bottom half of the 1st to get someone they've graded out as a second rounder.
2. How far do you think he would trade up top 10-15 or Bottom 10? I don't think we have the draft capital to jump to 10-15, and the only way he jumps to the Bottom 10 is if one of those top 15 or so players they graded drops a ton.
3. What would it cost next years 1+? At least. Next year's 1st rounder will almost be valued as a second rounder, since most people expect us to be a major contender this season.
4. Would you be ok with that type of move? Well yeah, if Dorsey is making the move, then it's probably for a player that's worth the pick. I just don't think that A) a player that good will drop far, and B) We will have enough draft capital to really make the trade interesting enough for the other team anyway.

What would you give up to get into the Top 12? What do you think it'd take?
Would you give up 49, next year's 1st, a 3rd this year, 3rd next year, and Duke to get, say, the Broncos pick at #10?
What if a Devin White or Devin Bush was there to be taken?
I'd do it.

Not a chance. As much as I would love to add one more potentially great stud to the roster.. I'd rather add a couple good pieces this year and have that #1 for next year if/when we figure out where our next big need is.

I know everybody is all excited, as am I, but until we actually do it on the field and make me know the time is now, I don't trade next years #1.
For that matter, unless it is for a QB, I don't think I would ever trade next years #1.

For that matter, unless it is for a QB, I don't think I would ever trade next years #1. This one thousand times. Future #1 picks are so valuable. If you're QB gets hurt and you end up with a top ten pick (or you just have horrible luck) that pick turns to gold. Think about the 49ers this year or the Chargers a few years ago getting Bosa.

I agree with the last few posts. IMO we should stay where we are in the 2nd round and take the best D player available and certainly not trade away next years #1. Let's get those last few players we need on D.

I'd hate that. Why would we give a 3rd or 4th round pick for a 32 year old LB who is 'oft injured?' We have a 26 yo Kirksey, 25 yo Schobert, and 23 yo Avery. Lets continue to watch them grow, and draft a LB who can grow behind them (or have them compete for a starting spot).

I would trade back into the late first Rd. if Johnathan Abram is there … IMO he will be a great Safety in this league, and he is the top rated safety projected to go late first early 2nd …

I'd rather go with Kirksey as the "vet mentor" and maybe bring in a recently retired guy to consult for a lot less and not take up a roster spot from a guy who'd give more on special teams. We also signed Adarius Taylor who can fill the vet mentor role and was the Bucs' special teams captain.

I have the day off today, so I slept in a little this morning. While in a half-awake/half-asleep consciousness I often have wild ideas. This is what poped into my head this morning. Dorey had very few high profile prospects into Berea leading up to the draft. Jeffery Simmons and Juan Thornhill being notable exceptions. A lot of the guys he's brought in are graded as day three prospects. Dorsey is confident that he can find late round guys who can play in the league.
Given the present roster composition, depth seems to be a greater consideration than finding immediate starters.
Would he do something as drastic as say, give up any and all of picks 49, 80 an 119 to get in a position to take Simmons? Then fill out the rest of the positions he wants to address with picks 144, 170, 189, 229 and UDFAs? Pre-draft visits indicate he's been looking closely at players that grade out as day three players or UDFA.

If so, he is a very good player on the field. His issue has been injuries, not performance.

Well, I have mentioned Lee as a possible guy if we trade Duke to Dallas. I think Lee is a better option than a 7th round draft choice. I realize he is rather expensive, but he is not a long-term option. He would make the team this year and contribute. I doubt the 7th rounder makes the team.

We probably won't try to get high in the round.
As to cost? Hard to say. Our 2nd, Duke and a 5th might do it.
My thinking is if we move up, it will be to get another 2nd rounder. Duke and a 3rd or 4th might get that done.

Absolutely not.
The basic framework of the deal would something like Browns give up #49 and next year's first to move into the bottom of the first round. Going higher would cost more.
Future picks are devalued too much. Unless maybe you need a QB and you're going up for a QB that you just have to have, don't trade away early round future picks. Try to do the opposite.. when teams panic and want to trade their future picks for 50 cents on the dollar, be ready to make a deal.
Vegas over/under has us winning 9 games this year. So for the sake of argument, let's say in the 2020 draft, we figure to pick around #19 or so.
Look at the situation from a few years from now. I'm pretty sure the NFL will still be around in 2022. The draft will still be here. Imagine looking back on this trade...
Browns trade picks #49 (2018) and #19 (2019), for pick #26 (2018).
How stupid is that?

I don't know what people are talking about next years number 1, there's no way you'd trade that, period.
I said it before if anyone uses that awful trade chart they can shove it into the trash can.
The only question if the Browns wanted to get a 1st rounder this year, is, well 2, is how high into the first, (top ten, or 11-32) and then if what it would cost to do it.
Seriously though, next years picks, Not even an option. Not next years 1, not next years 2, none of them.
So Given that, and the player I mentioned, yesterday (Sweat) I read might go top 10, the only question for me is, if around pick #8-?, If I wanted to do it,
Would, 49, 80, and one more asset, whether 119, or whether Duke, would be enough to trade up for pick #1 overall, And before any .. brings up a chart, I say all charts are trash, this that I mentioned is historically about what teams must consider because its about often what gives when real trades are done.
And then my only counter to if that weren't enough for a team to agree, would be to give up , 49, 80, 119, and maybe Duke, Altogether,
But! The team wants Mr Duke Johnson to stay on the team so, there's no telling what the Browns thought process really is, I'm just trying to say, if it were me,
There's just no way I'm mortgaging next years picks.
But for the best LB in this years draft, would this years 49, 80, and 119 be worth it? ya probably so in my book.
Trade Value charts are about as useful as a rat that eats pizza in a youtube video.

Let me put forth a simple premise.
From all draft profiles Jeffrey Simmons uninjured is considered a top ten pick.
Because of the injury he is expected to fall.
By most accounts he could slip to 20 or the top of the second round.
Vegas odds? Do they really determine a teams record?
Let's say they win 10 and that puts us in the twenties.
So, does a top ten player this year equal pick #49 and a pick in the twenties next year?
I think it all depends on what kind of player Simmons is.
Pick #49 and a pick in the twenties next year the odds are neither will be close to what Simmons is expected to be.
When you watch tape on Simmons he looks really good. Very quick and powerful. A big guy who is disruptive and could anchor the DL for many years to come.

I just read a small amount on Jeffery Simmons, he doesn't sound like a very good player, I was just trying to re-figure out to be sure he is an inside "big man" type player and not a lighter, quicker, rush the gap type,
I didn't get top 10 player type message from what I read, seems he's maybe a little small to stay at Nose tackle, and the Browns have 4 that would be ahead of him on the depth chart. Why would you consider treating someone like a top 10 pick value if Coley, Ogjunjobi, Vernon, and Richardson, would all take his playing time away.
If I give him his props, take away any bias, A top 30 player, sure, if you wanna go there, I'll not object, but I don't agree he belongs in top ten player discussion, even completely healthy.
Dorsey said don't pass on real players? then he went and got Callaway an Avery, who look like real players, I'm not sure Simmons looks like one. And I mean a guy who is a real advantage over the everyday average NFL journeyman you might find at his position.
I think Simmons has a potential to be more average than special, and even his upside isn't all that impactful, because league wide pass rushing nose tackles only do so much and if one is undersized at 300, what really is the best case scenario. ( Maybe someone ask Danny Shelton.)

Just curious have you watched him play?
He is not NT. We don't use a NT in the 4-3 we play.
Richardson was signed not as a long term player. His contract is $21 mil guaranteed.
Simmons is similar in skill set just younger. Richardson was a first rounder.
I have seen some of Simmons tape and he is quick, and powerful.
Please show a scouting report that has Simmons below top ten before injury.
Vernon plays DE.
Simmons would share time in three way rotation initially. And then replace Richardson.

Dorsey was talking about Duke repeatedly as reporters pestered him with the same questions over and over.
That is like career half-life. DJ as a chip , add a pick or so later, and back in. I hate to say it, but I am pretty sure he is gone, though it may be later for Hunt scenario. He may increase value by waiting until someone really needs him later closer to deadline. Hope he stays healthy. Hope I am wrong.

If 20 or more teams pass on him, is he really a top ten pick? The way I look at it, a player going earlier than expected doesn't tell you much. It just takes one team. However, when a player falls, that's a consensus among many teams. He tore his ACL recently. He's going to fall, that's life. One of the important abilities in this league is availability. Some players don't get injured as often as others and it's not just random. Call it a robust bone/joint structure, technique, flexibility, voodoo, sometimes it's hard to figure out exactly why, I just know it's true. All his is in addition to the more obvious: he's going to miss some time and there's always some uncertainty about whether the player is going to regain his full explosiveness. Long story short, no, I'm not trading a 2 and a future 1 to go up and get this guy even if he was a top-10 pick pre-injury. It would still be devaluing the pick way too much. When you say the Browns win 10 games next year, well other teams may think the same thing. The Browns future first isn't going to be worth as much as the Cardinals future first... at least not to a thinking GM. If you have to go up and get a guy then you can still go up and get him. We have other picks to use, maybe a player that can be worked in. Duke Johnson has been brought up. At some point we'll just have to accept that we don't have the draft haul that we had last year and won't be able to make as big of a splash. We don't have the extra early picks, we're not picking first in every round, we already used the first rounder to get Odell Beckham Jr.. a nice addition I might add. There will be good players in next year's draft too.
