Watched True Detective. Started Barry, but it didn't really grab me. Wasn't terrible, but I got sidetracked by something and wasn't hooked enough to go back. Got the HBO channel for GoT through Amazon Prime, so I have trouble keeping straight which show is on which channel. Watched Bosch and just started Hanna, but think those are Prime.
Imagine waiting for the next book for I don't even know how many years now.

My thoughts: A few years back I predicted that everyone dies.. the good guys don't win. At all. GRRM has broken a lot of standard rules with his characters and I think this would be in line with what's happened so far. I think there's a couple possibilities... one, they get wasted at Winterfell and retreat to the Iron Islands. Had Cersei sent what she promised it would have likely turned the tide. Instead of going with them Arya heads to King's Landing to finish her list. Possibly the Hound goes with her for that final show down with his brother the Mountain. After seeing Dany's reaction to Jon's lineage and her overall difficulty with the Starks, she may end up like her father. Does Jon have the fortitude to put down the Mad Queen? OR is Jamie forced to take out a second Targaryen??? But this also crossed my mind: I forget his name off the toop of my head, but wasn't one of Dany's lover's overseas a/the Captain of the Golden Company? If so maybe we see them change allegiances to help her take the Throne a la the Irish in Braveheart? Oh... and how about Tormund talking about how he got his name??

I think this was probably the most well done emotional battle I have ever seen.
I have so much anxiety right now from that.
I'm glad they finished that in one episode, because I couldnt handle another week of that.

I agree.. hell of a show.... so much to digest... I need to watch that again... so excited about how it ended... I had a feeling that's how the night king would get it in the end but man... was that well done...

So, in the end, Bran’s journey from little kid to magical memory dude turns out to being bait for the NK? Outside of helping Samwell to the truth of Jon’s parents, what’s his reason for being on the show?

With 3 episodes left, I don't think he'll have much part in events going forward. Really the remaining story lines don't involve him other than his knowledge of Jon/Aegon as the true heir.

I think the Battle of the Bastards was a better episode. While I disagree, I will say that, during the Battle of the Bastards when Jon was getting buried by the bodies, I almost passed out from not breathing. That was one of the most intense scenes I have ever witnessed. But last night's episode had me on edge the whole time. We got to the point where we all decided that either the Night King had to be killed, hence killing the rest of the Walkers, or the Night King was going to win and kill everyone. With this show, either was a distinct possibility (though I really didn't think they'd kill off all those major characters). So where does it go from here? How do you top that with 3 episodes left? Now we're back to our "normal" of conniving humans going up against each other. Granted the Army of the North is much depleted, but still. How do you top that episode?

***Spoilers****
There was a split second when I thought the greatest character maybe ever was about to get it and I was terrified. Then she pulled the ol okie doke on the knight king.
Has a character arch ever been more complete than Arya Stark? From trembling terrified little girl to the most formidable warrior in the 7 kingdoms.

When he grabbed her, I literally jumped off the couch and said FUDGE! (not fudge, but you know what I mean). Then when she got him, I reached over and punched my buddy on the arm really hard and I have no idea why. His wife was so excited, she reached over and punched him on the other arm. He was like "what the hell?!?!"

i knew it was going to be her from the scene in the crypts with the red witch. I just knew that with all the other main characters were in peril that the NK had to die soon. First I was like " Oh bran is going to pause his ipod and stab the NK in a suprise attack" Then the arya reveal was awesome. The rest of the episode sucked.. Huge letdown.. I'm sure it was great...if you could see it. They say the looked to LOTR as cues on staging such a massive battle, they should have used their lighting tricks as that was much more easy to follow. I feel if this wasn't the last season this could have been a whole storyline for a majority of a season.. I mean for 7 seasons the NK has been coming..then in less than an hour that whole storyline is a wrap. Felt a bit rushed after the first two episodes felt a bit dragged out.

I disagree on the lighting. It was dark, but I felt like it was intentionally confusing and hectic. It was a night battle against a mysterious enemy. I felt like I was in the battle because I had a hard time seeing things. I felt like I was in the moment.
I never felt like I was missing something. Sometimes I would ask "wait, who was that who got killed", but then the scene would cut to somewhere else, and that added to the hectic nature of things. Made it feel like a "real" battle. People get killed fast and there's nothing you can do about it.
But at no time was I lost because of how dark it was. I think it added something, IMO.
I absolutely loved the scene when the Dothraki ride off, and then their lights extinguish quickly. Like imagine being one of the soldiers waiting and thinking "oh crap."

The overall darkness was a big miss for me. A midnight battle in the middle of a snow storm. There were far too many times it was too dark or blurry to see. They had to have done that to save costs on a 70-minute CGI battle with the dead and some dragons.

Yes I think the low light in some things was perfect. Like the dothraki scene or when the red witch lights the swords and the trench..the visuals were great there.. rest, couldn't follow cause of the lighting

I went through the list of all of Arya's confirmed, named character kills. The only one with anything but Brown eyes was the Waif.....Zero green eye kills to date.

Maybe some of the Freys had green eyes? All of the freys that I was able to lookup had Brown eyes. I can't imagine if the prophecy said green eyes that it would be Walter Frey, the Night King and some random un-named frey boy. I'm looking at one green eyed tyrannical queen.

Hard for me to believe that only 5 people in the world were right, but yet here we are. I’m not saying your opinion is wrong but I’ve seen a vast majority of reviews had a problem with the lighting. They still liked the episode, just hard to follow a fight with the dead at midnight in a blinding snowstorm. Again, I think it was a budget decision. No way they had the needed budget to CGI that whole battle in the daylight. That would cost near a Marvel movie like Endgame.

Night battles are more a thing in modern warfare for several reasons; advantage to the more technological oriented forces, and when striking strategic locations, less collateral damage due to non-combatant workers.

I will say that I am not a fan of prolonged battles. Glad that episode is over. Multiple violent killings are not my idea of entertainment.
Not sure why many are complaining about the lighting. Did you expect it to happen in sunshine? LOL Atmosphere is important to the setting.
I thought either Bran or Arya would kill the Night King. I thought Bran was the favorite. I thought he would lure him in just like he did and then kill him suddenly.
Arya was my second choice. She did so in spectacular style. Glad to see The Hound coming to her defense more than once. Not sure why, but I have liked the Hound for quite some time. A tortured character who acts like a complete jerk, but displays many redeeming qualities more oft than not.

I think the Battle of the Bastards was a better episode. I think I will always rank that, Dany's torching of the Lannister army, and Hard Home above this last episode. Not that I didn't like it, I just think they let the scale of it all result in a slightly experience.

No need to be a party pooper. I like it. I’m not agreeing on some of the recent decisions the series is going since George Martin left HBO to finish it without his source material (which he should get crap for IMO). The first 4’ish seasons seemed to be so fresh and locked in, but since, it’s been “messy” to me. I totally got into the Jon and Dani reveal, but I’m hoping they pay it off properly, if they don’t, I will complain. Sorry if that breaks the rules, this can be a praise-only thread Also, aren’t we allowed to ask questions and express opinions about a subject? It’s not like I entered a Marvel movie thread and called anyone interested in it a child for caring about comic book heroes (yeah, a jab at someone). I don’t think I’m doing that here. I’m a fan of the show, I’m still watching. I’ve questioned a few things, most recently the budget that probably prevented them from doing the battle in daylight. I don’t think that complaint makes me a party pooper and I should stop watching. Do you? I think I asked a question a while back about why it matters that Jon has the true claim to the throne because it seems like anyone can just take it anyway. You all helped me understand that better. Same thing about Jon’s resurrection, although I’m a little undecided about that still.

Maisie on last night’s finish: “"It was so unbelievably exciting,” she says. “But I immediately thought that everybody would hate it; that Arya doesn’t deserve it. The hardest thing is in any series is when you build up a villain that’s so impossible to defeat and then you defeat them. It has to be intelligently done because otherwise people are like, ‘Well, [the villain] couldn’t have been that bad when some 100-pound girl comes in and stabs him.’ You gotta make it cool. And then I told my boyfriend and he was like, ‘Mmm, should be Jon though really, shouldn’t it?’”https://ew.com/tv/2019/04/28/game-thrones-maisie-williams-winterfell-battle/I’m cool with Arya doing it, I liked that part, but I then question what Bran’s role was in all of this. He was bait. And the part where he morphed into those ravens did nothing. I don’t understand what Bran does to the plot. I read he’s a bigger deal in the books, not sure.
