I put this in the political forum because that’s where these issues lead.

A Utah-based genealogy company has come under fire for running an ad that romanticizes why many African Americans have white ancestry — framing a story from the perspective of a white savior when the biggest historical reason is rape.
Ancestry.com posted its commercial online this month and it has been broadcast in Utah on cable networks. The company removed the video from its YouTube page shortly after The Salt Lake Tribune asked for comment.
Called “Inseparable,” it showed a white man trying to convince a black woman to run away with him to Canada, including a caption that calls them “two young lovers.” It appears to be set in the 1800s._

My thoughts are...this commercial isn’t in bad taste. Things like this happened. It’s not like they are putting up statues of these expatriates. And I believe it’s based on a true story?

Anyways, you’re thoughts.

You have to be outraged at anything that doesn't emphasize and belabor the plight of any minority group. This very harmless ad is yet another example of why there is a growing segment of people who are just not going to apologize to the outrage crowd anymore. At one point it was like,"yeah you're right I should be more sensitive, I get it" and it was gotten all the way to "You people are insane, I am done with this".

Good I’d rather hear from somebody that has less outrage. Lol

For a long time in this country we only taught the "good side" of our history and glossed over the negative..

The new trend is that we have to focus on the negative and any mention of the "good" is immediately met with "Yea, but...."

Within a 4 day span, Ilhan Omar made both of these tweets based on the audience she was talking to and what they wanted to hear...

Quote:
4/13 - This country was founded on the ideas of justice, of liberty, of the pursuit of happiness. But these core beliefs are under threat. Each and every day. We are under threat by an administration that would rather cage children than pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Quote:
4/17 - We must confront that our nation was founded by genocide and we maintain global power through neocolonialism.

The last quote certainly isn’t wrong.

The people who have issues with that quote most likely also subscribe to the “slaves were well fed” narrative.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
