I love how liberal the cons have gotten about law enforcement. Sting operations and informants are now bad according to them.

A settlement in a seven-year legal battle between the House and the Justice Department over records related to a gun-running investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious was publicly announced Wednesday just as similar clashes continue to intensify between the House and Trump administration.

The deal ends a lawsuit the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee filed in 2012 after the House voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt for refusing to release some records the panel demanded about the probe, during which law enforcement officials watched but did not intervene as up to 2,000 weapons were illegally sold.

4-year-old died after finding gun of father, an Ohio state trooper

TOLEDO, Ohio — Authorities said the 4-year-old son of an Ohio state trooper found his father’s gun and accidentally shot and killed himself.

A coroner ruled Monday, May 13 that all evidence pointed to the boy shooting himself after finding an unsecured weapon inside his home in Toledo. Police said the boy on Sunday had been taken to a hospital, where he died.

The coroner identified the boy as 4-year-old Evan Sun. Authorities said he suffered one gunshot wound to the head.

The Ohio Highway Patrol identified the trooper and boy’s father as Fu Sun of its Toledo post.

Toledo police said the investigation was continuing and patrol officials said they would look into the division-issued gun involved in the shooting.

That story is absolutely inexcusable. A state trooper leaves an unsecured gun where his own 4 year old child around can get it. A professional, highly educated in firearm safety, would do something like that. Inexcusable.

Also, I don't know how strong an average 4 year old child is but I'd be curious to know how many lbs of pull that trigger is set at. I can't imagine a 4 year olds hand being big enough to grip the firearm to pull a trigger unless it's set at 4 or less lbs. Which would be even more stupid to leave the firearm where he could get to it. Police don't need hair triggers.

What people have trouble wrapping their minds around is that the police are nothing more than a group of human beings. Within every large group of human beings you have good and bad. You have smart and dumb. It's not a one size fits all.

What I said was they are highly educated in firearm safety. So there is no excuse for this. Maybe it's different in Ohio but the state troopers in Oklahoma are the cream of the crop. They have to have a minimum BA just to apply. Then pass their academy. They aren't stupid people, but sometimes anyone can do something stupid, but this story goes way beyond stupid.

Smart people don't always avoid being negligent. I've seen people with college degrees that are dumber than a box of rocks. This is pure negligence plain and simple.

George Bush has a degree. Having a degree means absolutely nothing.

Pretty sure the fast and furious stuff never showed up in a mass shooting event.

There are some people everywhere that aren't very bright. More in some areas than others but I'm not well versed enough to do a breakdown of it.

I would not consider anyone who goes to college to become a cop a "smart" person. It actually sounds like the opposite. But oh well.

Growing up we had a number of guns in our house, and my father kept them in a large gun safe 80% of the time....but occasionally, if he was going hunting right after work, or was out hunting regularly, he would have whatever gun he was using standing up in a corner or in a closet.....But my brother and I understood that guns can mean life and death, and they are not toys....

We knew to always assume a gun is loaded, never point a gun at anything you don't plan to shoot, and ultimately, there was no reason for either of us to touch my fathers guns when he wasn't around....

Todays youth have no understanding of this. Their knowledge of guns comes from movies, tv, and video games....its this ignorance that puts a lot of kids in harms way.....adding an irresponsible firearm owner to the mix and the results can be deadly....

Once upon a time the NRA was a leader in gun safety training...

I too was a hunter as a teenager as well as an adult. The safety rule we always followed was you never load your weapon until you enter the field/woods and you never leave the field/woods with a loaded gun.

But yes, you always treat and handle any gun as if it were loaded.
