It’s but odd watching crazy conservatives claim victory, when the elections show that the far right only had pockets of victory.

So glad the losers got slammed in Germany.

I don't know about local elections throughout the rest of EU but in England, Pro-EU parties have done very well in elections. So much so that Corbyn has finally got off the fence and said he is now in favor of a second referendum .... before he didn't commit to anything on Brexit - merely criticized May without ever offering anything of substance.

yea the overall election shows

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-48417191

the center left and left leaning parties still have majority control. there were gains by right leaning and far right parties, but that were in pockets, like austria, UK, and italy.

europeans overall though showed they care more about the environment and other issues over immigration. obviously still a big issue, but not THE issue.

And even in the UK - the results there are for the European elections. I don't know what % of the population voted in the euro elections - but in the UK at local level, Pro-EU parties and platforms did well. It's like either end and at opposite ends of the political spectrum have received support - mirroring what we see here with division rather than compromise.

So what has it gotten you?

-Push Back
-Trump as President
-Hundreds of new Conservative Judges
-A Conservative Supreme Court
-A divided Nation at each others throats

So you double down in this election by moving farther Left.

Here's what history has taught me.

I think:

After Trump's second term, the cry babies are going to be in full force. There won't be enough level-headed people to elect a decent president in 2024. The decent voters left will cave-in to the incessant whining. Our next president after Trump is certain to be a complete loser who will bankrupt the country. He(she?) will kowtow to the then majority of voters to "Increase Social Programs for godssakes. There's hungry babies."

Picture Obama times ten

The U.S. makes a big step towards the crapper of history and never makes it to 2100.

Or...Maybe not.

I will root for the "Or Maybe Not" part.

Personally, I think the Globalists and our American Libs will double down again when Trump wins re-election, moving even farther Left by throwing themselves into a volcano in order to save the planet.

It's funny. And it's just what I said would happen.

Political correctness isn't a good thing. But see, there's a difference in refusing to be politically correct and just plain being as azz hate. And now you use people like Trump just being a plain azz hat as him not being politically correct.

And if we want to get into a peeing contest.

Conservatives wanted to keep slavery.

Conservatives didn't want to give women the right to vote.

Conservatives passed prohibition.

Conservatives fought against civil rights.

Conservatives fight against working people to form unions.

Conservatives have this stupid notion that corporations are people.

The Republican Party, often called the GOP (short for “Grand Old Party”) is one of two major political parties in the United States. Founded in 1854 as a coalition opposing the extension of slavery into Western territories, the Republican Party fought to protect the rights of African Americans after the Civil War. Today’s GOP is generally socially conservative, and favors smaller government, less regulation, lower taxes and less federal intervention in the economy.

n the 1850s, the issue of slavery—and its extension into new territories and states joining the Union—ripped apart these political coalitions. During this volatile period, new political parties briefly surfaced, including the Free Soil and the American (Know-Nothing) parties.

In 1854, opposition to the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which would permit slavery in new U.S. territories by popular referendum, drove an antislavery coalition of Whigs, Free-Soilers, Americans and disgruntled Democrats to found the new Republican Party, which held its first meeting in Ripon, Wisconsin that May. Two months later, a larger group met in Jackson, Michigan, to choose the party’s first candidates for statewide office.

The Republican goal was not to abolish slavery in the South right away, but rather to prevent its westward expansion, which they feared would lead to the domination of slaveholding interests in national politics.

In the 1860 election, a split between Southern and Northern Democrats over slavery propelled the Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln to victory, though he won only around 40 percent of the popular vote.

Even before Lincoln could be inaugurated, seven Southern states seceded from the Union, beginning the process that would lead to the Civil War.

Your list speaks to the futility of sustained conservatism... in a world that is in a perpetual state of evolution.

It's why all those things you listed are from a bygone era... an era that cannot ever return- because Nature doesn't work that way. Salmon may swim upstream to spawn... but then they die. To further the analogy: one can never step into the same river twice.

What we are witnessing at this moment is Sisyphus nearing the mountain's apex. He never learns, but he never quits.

"same as it ever was...."

So it is your position that it wasn't conservatives in the south that promoted slavery? We both know that's not true.

Or is it your position that the Republican party since the 1940's has the same platform it had during the time of Lincoln?

Yeah, I didn't think so.

And in case you missed it, I didn't use the word Republican. Because I'm well aware that the core values of both parties has done a complete 180 since that time in our history.

In most of these conversation there are certain terms synonymous with each other.

Conservatives = Republican
Liberal = Democrat

If that rule is changing, then I am unaware of it.

that's the problem, Florida.
POlitical parties aren't synonymous with ideologies, because:

Both parties have flipped philosophical stances post-Reconstruction.
Look up: 'Southern Strategy.' That was the second wave of defections to the GOP. They are now home to all those seduced by Nixon, along with the Dixiecrats who left around 1950.

Dems gave birth to the Klan, but the GOP owns them now.

Hence, Pit's assertions are valid, and supported by recorded history.

That rule has changed over the course of our nations history. That's why the labeling of a party over the course of our history makes no sense and why I would never use it in that context.

Clem explained it very well.
