How long has BQ been here now? They installed the new O in the first 11 days of TC,....BQ should have a pretty good understanding of it by now,...to think that he is out there all alone to pick up the plays when the opportunity presents itself is absurd.

All this kid needs is reps with the first unit to get his timing down.

i agree Calzone

some folks need to quit babying him and worrying about his psyche..Quinn is a competitor ...it is killing him being stuck on the sidelines...this kid will produce...and will be a very bright spot for us for a very long time

all this kid needs is most of the reps with the 1st team this week, and Dorsey with him...Dorsey is his mentor and will help this kid out with his expereince and knowledge

He's seemed to have lost all of his natural instincts that made him successful in college.

I don't think he lost them, I just don't think they are enough to carry him at this level...

A good friend of our family coached college baseball and scouted for the Dodgers, this is how he explained it to me and it applies to pretty much all sports..

There are 3 things you need to succeed in sports, one is God given physical ability (size, strength, speed), the second is smarts (relative to your sport), and the third is desire (to practice and play at 100%)...

At the high school level if you are really good in one of those areas, it's usually enough to make you at least somewhat successful. In college you have to have at least 2 of them to be successful. And to get to the pros and be successful, you have to have all of them in abundance.

That's the weeding out process in every sport and why some guys move on and some don't.... I think Frye is tough and athletic and hard working but I think he rode that as far as he could... I just don't think the football smarts are there for him to succeed at this level.

I feel bad for him, he seems like a great kid and it would have been a great story.... but I think Sunday was the final chapter of the story.

This situation should be handled the way the Browns are doing it..let Quinn sit till he's ready..
Not when the masses say he's ready.
I do agree with Diam that Quinn starting isn't going to make this team a instant winner.
1-He's a rookie.
2-We have a totally new Oline.Running game needs to be developed.
3-We have WR's who can't catch.
4-We have a defense that can't stop the run and lacks basic tackling fundamentals.

5-He wasn't born on the planet, Krypton.

Jokes aside, I am all for him sitting and learning. At LEAST til maybe the Miami game, if the team doesn't get it together. He isn't going to save the team by starting now.

And if there's a chance our "talented, NFL-caliber players" would actually show up to play for Quinn and not for the other QBs, Romeo, and, most importantly, we the fans, then we can look forward to much more rebuilding than we thought.

I'm not sure what happened, but I had a lengthy post agreeing with you that said the following:

Yeah, but these "fans" don't care about all that. They think that he will rip off his jersey, see the S on his chest and we will win THIS WEEK and who cares about the next 10 years!

Is that any more illogical than the ones who think he will get hit 2 or 3 times and go into the fetal position and call for him mommy?

Well, I have yet to see anyone say that, but I don't think it's any more illogical to be concerned that you can ruin a rookie QB by putting him in a terrible situation. We're not just talking mentally, but physically as well. I prefer a healthy Quinn ready to play.

CoachB and Attack, I don't know if I am one of those "fans" or not. I do not think that Brady has an "S" on his t-shirt and I was all for having him "sit" this WHOLE yr. But the QB display I saw this past Sunday just disgusted me. Yes, Coach, I know it was a team effort, and I am by no means placing everything on our QB's shoulders, but man..........that was just U-G-L-Y. Both Frye and Anderson looked ALOT worse than I was expecting. Maybe it just seems worse to me because I fully expected Frye to be able to hold the ship steady until Quinn was up to par. I was just completely caught unaware by what I saw from our QB play sunday.

I really don't want to "throw Quinn to the wolves" this early in the yr., but as many others on this board, I am sick and tired of our team not even being competetive in our own division. As another poster stated in this thread or another, the longer we wait, the longer we put off hearing the "we have to get Quinn up to speed" excuse on why were not winning then.

Do I expect to win right away with Quinn, definatley not, but can it be ANY worse than what we saw this past sunday.

Again, I want to be able to keep Quinn on the bench, but man, it's awfull hard not to join the mob mentallity chanting for Brady right now.
If either of you can talk me off of this ledge I would be greatfull.

So, you're not expecting Quinn to win and are willing to be patient while he does, but you don't want to do the best thing because it might not be competitive for a few weeks? Can it be any worse? Well, what if Quinn gets destroyed under the pressure and is injured because the OL is still gelling and he is done for his career. Is that "worse" than what happened last Sunday? Think long term, not what is going on this Sunday.

Like I said Coach, I am not sure that this is the best thing, but thinking "long term", playing Brady now gets him up to speed sooner rather than later. As far as him getting hurt because of our O-Line........I don't think they played all that bad and they should get better every week they play together.

I NEVER thought I would be saying what I am saying, and everything I know tells me he needs to sit AT LEAST UNTIL THE BYE. But, I am just having a hard time picturing Crennel (or any headcoach) telling his team that:

" guys, our QB of the future is here now, but we can't play him yet because he might get hurt playing behind our O-Line, so until our O-Line is better, than I am going to play _________ even though he is not the best QB, that gives us the best chance to win this season."

I just don't see that flying to well with the team.

What you tell them is quite simple......"Guys, we have a promising young QB here that we believe is our future. Unfortunately, he missed alot of training camp and is not up to speed. So we are not going to rush him into a situation where we jeopardize your future success as a team. We have full confidence that as we come together as an offense we will continue to improve and be successful this year with the players we have playing now. We have a plan together for success and if we work hard, stick together, and not deviate from the plan, we will be successful together."

How do we know BQ is NOT up to speed?

If a coach would say that to the team...and the players sit there "knowing better"...then what? They would think the coach is a liar and a joke.

Why does everyone assume that BQ starting now v. week fill-in-the-blank will matter? What will majically happen in the next few/several weeks that will make BQ suddenly be "ready"? The guys we have played thus far will NEVER be ready.

BQ is the best QB on our roster and gives us the best chance to win. Ready or not. Time for the BS to stop. Put him in and lets get on with it.

I have no doubt that Quinn would be an improvement over what we have put on the field. Him sitting a few more weeks will only help him. I don't think that can happen at this point. I don't think this org. has the guts to do what is needed.

That just doesn't make any sense to me.

He is the best player we have at his position and gives us the best chance to win. He should play...simple as that.

No matter how long we wait...he will STILL be a rookie when he does play and he won't be "ready" until he gets some expeience under his belt. Ready or not, he is the best we've got.

It's time to get him "ready"...now.

It's real simple, it has been reported everywhere all day that if Quinn starts, they will have to scaled down the playbook because Quinn isn't "up to speed". That's how I know, it's been reported in several places coming from the Browns.

If we go with DA or Dorsey, the playbook will be scaled down after the first quarter anyway because we will be getting our backsides handed to us...again...and we will be in full panic mode.

I could be convinced that DA or Dorsey know the whole playbook better than Quinn...but neither can execute the darned thing.

Scale it down if they must...but let's get a guy in there who can play. The simplest part is that we only have one guy who can do that.

I see your point, but this is what the Browns are saying....they said no way does Quinn start because they will have to scale down the playbook. Of course, that was at 10:00, so that might have changed by now lol

Not to be a .... you-know-what.... but would you mind posting some of those places.... What I'm most curious about is reading whether this "scaled down" theory is something the Browns are saying or something the writers are ASSUMING...

Coach, please don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to keep Quinn on the bench until AT LEAST the bye week. But "right now" I just don't know how DA is better, or even equal to Brady.

Myabe it's me having the "knee jerk" reaction to last week and not our front office. Maybe DA can handle the browns for a few more games. But it's just a REALLY hard pill to swallow if he keeps playing like he did last sunday.

Someone else threw this scenerio out in a different thread and it seemed to make a little bit of sense:

Let DA start this week at home, if he continues to play as he has, bring in Quinn at the start of the second half. This means that the opposing team has game-planned for DA, the crowd gets and team gets a lift in the second half when Brady comes in, and Quinn gets the whole first half to see what type of Defense he will be going against that game.

Is this a realistic scenerio? I don't know, I amy just be grasping for straws here. Maybe DA plays well enough to carry us a little more?

I can't give you a link or an inside source but it sounds like something that would be correct. He missed the part of training camp where they installed the new offense and hasn't had a lot of reps since then. It is suppose to be a very difficult offense to learn and understand. Quinn probably is a pretty bright kid but it does take time. I'm don't doubt that he can't do better with a limited playbook than what the others have done but it is a better idea in my mind not to put him in there until he knows it like the back of his hand.

There is no time to think in the pocket. You need to be able to line up, assess the situation and react. More time will make it easier on him.

I mean it does make sense, that the playbook might have to be scaled back some... but I'm sure RAC isn't going to give away any indication of how much... In fact it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he came out and said Quinn has been working on this whole special package designed just for him... just to throw of the Bengals...

After everything that's happened today I think BQ will be named the starter for Sunday,.....it just doesn't make sense anymore to have DA start and get pulled the first time he screws up. Does anyone really think DA is gonna come out and prove he's a legit starter for 4 quarters?

Even if he has a great game against the Bengals ,...what are his chances of repeating that the following week??

In order to save face the organization HAS to come out and go with BQ,....it would just be silly at this point to let DA start.Let it be known who our QB is and BE DONE WITH IT!...give us a chance to succeed THIS season.

I think that DA will start because then Quinn and Dorsey will be talking over everything and KD will tell Quinn what to look for and such. Go Browns!

Didn't Worthlessberger play with a scaled down playbook?

And no I'm NOT comparing his situation to ours...I'm just throwing it out there.

And before I get jumped on, NO i'm not advocating him starting Sunday...quite frankly I wouldn't mind Dorsey getting the nod.

Wow what a fiasco this is...

Before the super bowl one of the comentators said, He played with about 10-15 basic plays and every week they would add or change about 10 to fit the defence they were playing. So really they used about 20-25 plays with diffrent formations for the most part and added a few wrickles every week, if he started to look confused they stopped adding things and kept it simple until he caught up.

And what helped them out was the fact that they could run at will which somewhat negated whatever tendencies the opposing D picked up on (seriously, their OL in '04 was probably the best run blocking unit I've ever seen) and their D would keep them in the game.

It better not be "decisions decisions" any more. If they decided to trade Frye without deciding already who is going to start this week, that would continue to show how poorly thought out this whole situation was.

That's the part many are missing. What if he only knows half or two thirds of the playbook?

It's better to use half of your plays and be able to execute most of them, than to run all of your plays and execute very few of them.

Would anyone mind if we played Quinn this year and handed off 35 times? Personally not me.

Scale back the playbook if you must. But look, Brady Quinn is a gamer he took a bad bad team and made them competetive for two straight years in Notre Dame. Look at them this year. They lose Quinn, Walker (undrafted and cut), and Samardzija (pitching in the cubs farm system) and gain 133 yards in 2 games. thats not so much my point.

Quinn has had a knock for taking poor talent and making them play better. Sure he struggled in big games. But, again he had inferior talent around him. He didnt play bad, his defenses did. Quinn is a gamer. He wants to play, and if we have to run the ball more with him in the game GOOD. GOOD, I wanna run the damn ball. Alot. Please lets run the ball more.

But get Brady in the game. Hes the most talented kid we've got, and if he knows the playbook. Which he's been using since April and mid-august. I mean he knows. His timing may be a little off, but if he gets reps, he'll be fine. Let him play.

PS was just on ESPN stating that DA will be the starter with BQ as the #2,...but has a chance to start at some point during the season.
