I and many others have been hounding them for years over this but they simply don't care. They have made the lives and well being of these people a political agenda.
We all know if the President could fix this by himself it would have been fixed long ago, but he can't. House lawmakers were scrambling to pass a troubled $4.5 billion funding bill to combat the escalating humanitarian crisis at the border -- with Republicans accusing Democrats of “playing games” with the crisis, and Democrats urging their GOP counterparts to “show some decency.” The Senate already has a bill that would provide additional funding to improve border conditions, but the House is still working on its version of the legislation -- which would impose various funding restrictions including not allowing funding of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention beds. -And the games continue. Senate rejects House border funding bill over 'poison pill riders
The Senate on Wednesday failed to advance the House version of a $4.5 billion bill funding efforts to combat the escalating humanitarian crisis on the southern border -- setting up a vote on its own, more bipartisan funding measure later in the day. The measure was defeated with just 37 senators supporting and 55 opposing. It needed 60 votes to pass. The expectation is that the Senate version of the measure would pass the chamber. A vote on that bill could come later in the afternoon and put pressure on the House to agree to that version instead. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/senate-rejects-house-border-funding-billAnd the games go on.

Yeah, the Republicans want to make sure they don't have to spend the money on what it's intended for. They want to say it's for one thing and have the freedom to spend it on something else.
The Democrats want to make sure there are clauses to make sure the money is spent on what it should be spent on.
The party that claims to stand up for responsibility doesn't want to be made accountable to be responsible. So they call that poison.

Politicians need a crisis like this so they can make promises on fixing it. If they ever fix the problem, they have nothing to promise. While I tend to agree with this sentiment.. that politicians need a good crisis because it's good for business... it will only stop when WE force it to stop. They aren't going to voluntarily make it stop. As Clem eloquently stated, the current climate is that we often let "our side" winning become the biggest impediment to generally making progress. I have been voting for 33 years, I have voted for Presidents and congressmen and all of that on the federal and state level.. not one single time did I vote for somebody with the expectation that I would get 100% of what I wanted or 100% of what they promised... Clem and I have talked about this before a couple times, I remember one or two during the Obama administration... where the option existed for some kind of compromise where everybody got some of what they wanted but not all... but it was good enough that everybody could CLAIM some measure of victory... I don't think any of it ever happened because it made sense.. and it didn't fit the "all or nothing", "our way or the highway" mode of governing... What's going on at the border is an unmitigated disaster.. I don't care if Obama started it or if Bush started it or if Trump started it or made it worse... just start freakin' fixing it.

U.S. bishops join pope reacting to photos of drowned migrant father, child Jun 26, 2019 by Catholic News Service Quick Reads 20190626T0829-28253-CNS-POPE-MIGRANT-DEATH.jpg The bodies of Salvadoran migrant Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez and his 23-month-old daughter, Valeria, are seen June 24, 2019, after they drowned in the Rio Grande in Matamoro, Mexico, while trying to reach the United States. (CNS/Reuters) Updated throughout with new headline and U.S. bishops' statement at 11:13 a.m. Central time June 26, 2019
WASHINGTON — U.S. bishops joined Pope Francis in expressing sadness after seeing photos of the lifeless bodies of a migrant father and his daughter who drowned near the U.S. border with Mexico.
"This image cries to heaven for justice. This image silences politics. Who can look on this picture and not see the results of the failures of all of us to find a humane and just solution to the immigration crisis?" the bishops said in a June 26 statement.
"Sadly, this picture shows the daily plight of our brothers and sisters. Not only does their cry reach heaven. It reaches us. And it must now reach our federal government," said the statement, issued by Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Bishop Joe Vásquez of Austin, chairman of the bishops' Committee on Migration.
The photos of Salvadoran migrant Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez and his 23-month-old daughter, Valeria, lying face down in the shallow waters of the Rio Grande sparked outrage against the U.S. government due to squalid conditions at migrant facilities as well as increasingly harsher policies against immigrants, many of whom are from Central America, fleeing their countries due to violence, poverty and corruption.
"We can and must remain a country that provides refuge for children and families fleeing violence, persecution and acute poverty," the bishops said. "All people, regardless of their country of origin or legal status, are made in the image of God and should be treated with dignity and respect."
In response to journalists' questions June 26, Alessandro Gisotti, interim Vatican spokesman, said Pope Francis saw "with immense sadness" the photos.
"The pope is profoundly saddened by their death and is praying for them and for all migrants who have lost their lives while seeking to flee war and misery," Gisotti said.
In an interview with Mexican newspaper La Jornada, Maríinez's wife, Tania, said she and her husband decided to cross the Rio Grande June 23 after waiting for two months for a response to their asylum request from the United States.
Hoping to cross the river into Brownsville, Texas, Martínez first crossed with his daughter and left her along the bank while returning back to help his wife cross. However, upon being left alone, Valeria was frightened and jumped into the river.
When Martínez rushed to save her, he and his daughter were instead dragged by the current. Tania was rescued by a person nearby, she told La Jornada.

Twelve hours later, firefighters from Matamoros, Mexico, found the two bodies, both facedown, with Valeria's lifeless arm clutching her father's neck.
During his weekly general audience earlier in the day, the pope called on Christians to be more welcoming of others.
While greeting Spanish-speaking pilgrims, he praised Mexico, which has seen an increased influx of Central American migrants, "because they are so welcoming, so welcoming to migrants."
"May God repay you," he said.
Addressing reports of overcrowding and unsanitary conditions at migrant centers, DiNardo and Vásquez said "such conditions cannot be used as tools of deterrence."
"Congress has a duty to provide additional funding to address the needs of children in federal custody," they said. "Their supplemental appropriations bill should also increase protections for immigrant children, including heightened standards and oversight for border facilities. It is possible and necessary to care for the safety of migrant children and the security of our citizens. By putting aside partisan interests, a nation as great as ours is able to do both."

He is not spinning or deflecting anything. You either misunderstood his intent or you are just trashing his opinion because you think he is part of the other side.
Of course, that latter explanation goes for about 98.8 percent of the posts in this forum.

Wait.......you challenged Clem. He replied in an intelligent manner. He took the time to answer you. He didn't do a lot of name-calling, but he came up w/what he thought was a reasonable and logical answer to your challenge. He ended by saying: Ball's in your court, now. Have you any suggestions that don't involve 3-word single-syllable campaign slogans? Give us your 40¢ worth. You initially ignored him, then you made fun of him, and now you are saying the conversation is over. Once again.........Lame!

I officially challenge you to offer a potential solution to the crisis on our Southern border. We could compare notes, offer positive suggestions to each other, etc.
No smack here. No cute turns of phrase. Just a straightforward invitation to rise to my level.
I honored your request. I actually took the time to give it an honest effort. Will you extend the same respect to me?

Not surprised that the GOP’rs are off worried and posturing about Mueller again while ignoring families being separated, and men, women, children are dying on the southern border. Yet I don't hear a peep about all the ones dying in their own countries, and who do not have soap or toothpaste, or food or water. I only hear about the ones at our border. (Which by the way I think is sick and disgusting in the way they are being treated) It's there - and I apologize for missing it. I still think the suggestion that the treatment of detainees by the USA Government is less a subject for discussion because no-one previously talked about their suffering in their native countries is bogus.

I shall await your return from re-reading my post in case you have further questions. Tah.

1. There is a similar Stench in many of our most Liberal Cities. 2. Yes, due to the fact that Congress has turned its back on those in need at our southern border the situation is becoming more untenable. I read them all. In none of them did I find a suggestion by you that would serve as a potential remedy to the border crisis. You have reported on congressional doin's, sparred with others, flirted with one poster, even teased me for my phone's autocorrect... ...but you never offered a single potential solution or original idea of your own. I comprehend that statement perfectly well. I comprehend it as a report on what is happening. That is a report- not a statement of your own idea(s)
You have nothing of your own. Not one single original thought or idea. You won't accept my challenge because you and I both know that you are incapable of meeting it.

I performed, when called upon. You did not. The bar that you established for me... was placed at the same elevation for both of us.I cleared your bar. You... didn't even try to jump. Chump. My original invitation still stands. Present your own idea(s) about this- in your own words- like I did... ...or shut your damned mouth about this, you 'Junior Varsity Pretender.' I did what you haven't. Because I did what you can't. And I will forever label you with this epic fail, unless you prove me wrong. To date, you've brought Zero Game. Zero. You still have a chance to retain your cred in this forum. All you have to do is jump through the same hoop you tried to trap Clemmy into clearing. You really should do your best, because here at https://www.dawgtalkers.net, your only 'cred footprint' is the words you drop into the bubble of this confined forum. Your posting history at this site suggests that you barely even know what football is. So- if you lose this cred, you've pretty much lost everything at this site and within this community. Conversely, I have committed myself to this community for all to see. They know (or can learn) everything about me. I must live by every word I utter, because I am an actual known person to people at this place. Dawgs here have actually shaken my hand, shared a nosh/drink, and cheered with me in the same stands at games. Who are you to any of us? Become someone at this web address. Share something of depth and value that makes you someone OF value. Or keep launching spitballs. Whatever.

If you have children and some government agency came into your home and found the children sleeping on the garage floor, in dirty diapers, no tooth brushes, no place to wash up, no food... They'd take those kids away so fast your head would spin.. And you'd be arrested immediately if not sooner.
But do that at the border,,,, and I guess to some, it's ok

It's good to see that the TDS crowd is so firmly (now & finally) acknowledging what the POTUS has been saying for well over a year now. There is a crisis...it is not a "manufactured" crisis..it is real. Congress needs to get off their butts and put as much effort into finding a solution as have posters on this board.

I would think in all the time you've posted and been reading this forum that you would know that all 40 cent has ever had to spew is GOP talking points.
That original thoughts or suggesting actual solutions is beyond his scope. I guess you did accomplish one thing. For anyone who doubted it you did make it abundantly clear.

2. Yes, due to the fact that Congress has turned its back on those in need at our southern border the situation is becoming more untenable. Congress has not approved or released the necessary funds to feed and properly care for those folks. In none of them did I find a suggestion by you that would serve as a potential remedy to the border crisis. ...but you never offered a single potential solution or original idea of your own. What part of that statement do you not comprehend? Congress should release the necessary funds to feed and properly care for those folks. It is on the Congress to fix this mess with the funds, and our President would sign the bill before the ink was dry. Problem solved. So it is your assertion that if Congress would just release more money, ICE and the administration would use it to fix this problem? It's that simple? Are you suggesting this administration and ICE would break the law and not use the money to fix the problem? Nah.

We have to agree to disagree about the Bogus comment as I believe it is bogus to wait till they get to this country before people give 2 cents about them.
Yep, I miss stuff all the time, most often when it's right in front of my face. . . . And I agree 100% we should give 2 cents about them before they get here. I believe that most do. I also think we should care when they get to our borders and seek asylum ... and then get treated worse than animals. I understand that there are a lot who use asylum as a ticket into the USA (and every other country in the world. But it feels like in order to address that issue - there are some who are quite content to treat any and everyone seeking immigration/asylum as scum and they have completely lost touch with the reality that these are people. The fact that some are so desperate to try to come here illegally means they brand them as "criminals" so no treatment is too bad for them. It's a hell of problem around the globe and it's going to get worse. And personally I don't think a wall does anything to help the situation one bit.
The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

"The wall" is a talking point. Not a solution to the immigration problem.
It's a way to divide people and create social unrest.
