In reality, AOC should have taken one of her fellow freshman from the "R" side of the aisle with her, like Ross Spano or Dan Crenshaw... and they could have issued a JOINT statement on what they saw.. it would have been SIGNIFICANTLY more impactful and believable that way. This, right here. I have no problem with any of our reps trying to get to the truth, but any and all of them should realize the partisan atmosphere prevalent these days, and take appropriate measures. Buddy System!

I find it funny how some wish to concentrate on trying to deny accusations that AOC has made yet refuse to recognize that it's also the IG and employees who work in these detention centers that back up some of her sentiments.
It seems they would rather rebuke the points of someone they have worked hard to tear down and mock as they find it an easier target to take on.

AOC(Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the biggest fraud in politics though. I can't believe how many people don't see this. Lets see here: AOC voted against: -$800 million dollars in humanitarian assistance, medical support, and new temporary housing. -$782 million to hire an additional 2,750 border agents, law enforcement officers, and staff. -$563 million to support our immigration court system, including hiring 75 new immigration judge teams to reduce the immigration court backlog of 800,000 cases. That's from her official voting record, the woman is a con and a fraud. If the people of her district have any sense at all she won't get back in office. Pelosi has had to put her in her place numerous times because her and the rest of "The Squad" are a bunch of twits. If AOC cared about those people as much as she says she does, she would have compromised and voted to give money needed to house and feed those people, and hire more immigration judicial teams to expendite these peoples claims. She is a fraud and a con, folks really need to stop thinking she is something different because she isn't...she is nothing but a poser who was a good enough con to dupe her district with a good marketing campaign...

Actually I'm not saying either. I'm saying that if someone applies for asylum they should not be incarcerated or separated from their families. In order to apply for asylum you must speak to a government agent. I'm quite sure if you are carrying any amount of drugs or guns it would be picked up at that point. I'm not for allowing those who refuse to apply for asylum to enter our country. I'm also not for locking up and separating families that are following a 100% legal process afforded by law. I also support arresting and deporting those that have exhausted the legal process and have received deportation orders. Being a moderate can be hard.

But since a perfect system does not now, and never will, exist... we have to err to one side of the other.... do we make it harder for the good ones to get through but give ourselves a better chance to weed out the bad ones.. or do we make it easier on the good ones, knowing that will allow more of the bad ones to slip through...

What I'm basing my opinion on is not how a system can be perfect, but the laws that currently exist. As it stands, applying for asylum is a legal process. It isn't a crime nor is it against immigration law. So locking people up doesn't appear as any solution nor any type of proper response to following the law.
Now don't get me wrong, I do know that people will fall through the cracks. There will be people that do not show up for their hearings. But about 90% of those applying for asylum show up for their hearings. I just have a hard time punishing the 90% for the acts of the 10%.
There was 4.8 billion dollars approved to help this problem. A great help would be to hire more immigration judges with a portion of that money to help make the process quicker.
As it stands now, we are locking up families for months at a time for doing what our own laws tell them they are supposed to do upon arriving here.
I know my opinion isn't the perfect solution. Yet at this time, until a better solution is reached, I think it's by far the most logical way to move forward.

As it stands, applying for asylum is a legal process. It isn't a crime nor is it against immigration law. So locking people up doesn't appear as any solution nor any type of proper response to following the law. But the The 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA), passed by not-Donald Trump, requires that people applying for asylum at ports of entry be detained for the duration of the process, which can take 6 months or longer... In spite of the law, previous administrations have elected to release some (or many) of them.. the Trump administration has elected to release as few as possible. If you are released, you are to pay a bail (which most can't afford) and you have to wear an ankle monitor and check in regularly with your case officer and show up to all of your appointed court hearings... This isn't just for asylum seekers but... As of July 2018, there were 733,000 pending immigration cases and the average wait for an immigration hearing was over 720 days.. and growing because of lack of funding for immigration judges to meet the growing demand over the last decade....

We both know that this is an illogical process to follow. By your own admission, Trump has chosen to complicate and aggravate the situation based on his own decisions to detain more people when he didn't have to. That's why I've said more than once that this crisis was manufactured by Trump.
