...is an extremely intelligent person, but sometimes she makes us wonder. I've told you guys about her profession in anesthesia. She was very poor growing up and was intelligent enough to get a full ride to college. She is awesome at chemistry, biology, and physiology. She is an older woman, but still reads these huge books daily to stay sharp. I have a hard time comprehending that stuff.

On the other hand, she says some of the ...hmmmm.."funniest" things. Today, my son was over and we were talking about football [they are both Squeeler fans] and I mentioned that the Browns open w/the Titans this year after my son said the Steelers play NE in their first game.

My wife gets on her phone and contradicts me and says the Browns open w/the Bengals. I say, "no, they play the Titans, first." She says their first home game is against the Bengals and their first road game is against the Bengals. rofl

Obviously, she was on a site that listed the division rivals first and did them alphabetically and then listed the other teams on the schedule according to conference.

She's obviously extremely intelligent, but damn man, she says some of the craziest things.

Do you know anyone like that? Someone who is really intelligent but makes some crazy statements at times?

Browns first regular season game is either vs the Titans or Texans, I get those teams confused.

My daughter is a CPA. Very intelligent. My granddaughter is currently studying to be a psychiatrist. Both made/make very good grades.

All I can say is that I'm very glad they are "book smart".

My wife is very intelligent, but some weird dumb reason she gets her lefts and rights messed up. I mean all the time. "go left, no the other left! Im sorry!"

It got to the point that in the car when navigating, I make her point to the way we need to turn rofl naughtydevil

Well, I am a motorcyclist, and she rides on the back when we have a sitter and have time to take it out. We pull up to a stop sign, I yell back to her "which way?" I hear her reply "that way".

Now.....if you are following along, you can picture my sitting in the front of the bike, with her sitting directly BEHIND me on the bike. I yell again "which way?" she replies "dummy im pointing to the way!" I kindly replied, "you do realize you are behind me right, sweetie? Unless they have a new rear camera system in my helmet, I cannot see where you are POINTING!"

We now use taps on the shoulder when I ask which way rofl

I can only assume she was pointing.....while on the BACK of my

That's who I'm married to as well lol. Pointing does no good because I can never tell where she's pointing. Now it goes like this...
"Go left"
"Your real left?"
"No, no, right! Why do I do that?"
"I don't know honey lol"

Yeah, at first I am not going to lie, it was rather frustrating. But honestly I know a few people like that and it just a quirk of hers, IDK what it is. I am sure there is some scientific explanation, but hey after a while now its just kind of endearing to me.

I ask way before I need to know, and ask her to point or tap, and every time she does I smile a little and shes says "shut up" and we get a laugh about it.

OK, IQ wise I am considered very intelligent but my husband is always humoring me because I can't remember names very well at all. I have always been that way, so i don't think this is age-related. I've never done well in classes that require a lot of memorization.

It takes me several times meeting someone before I can associated them with their name. Must be some kind of learning disability that I have.

Probably not, mom.

It might have more to do w/a social anxiety issue. There are all kinds of people who have a tremendous memory, but can't remember the names of new acquaintances.

I believe this is due to a bit of social awkwardness where we worry more about first impressions and are also making our own first impressions on the new person we are meeting and we really don't let the name register.

I don't think it is a mental disability at all. And there is nothing wrong w/feeling a social trepidation.

You may be right Versatile Dog, never thought of it that way. I definitely feel some social awkwardness meeting new people.

And there is nothing wrong w/that, mom. You are obviously very intelligent and you don't have any learning disabilities.

You are just "human" and do not have an inflated opinion of yourself, which in my mind, makes you even more likable.

One more thing, mom.

You are very intelligent. That's obvious to me by what you post. You even mentioned your IQ scores. You are an artist. A very good pianist. You are also a very kind person.

So mom, my message to you is that while you may struggle in some social situations, I want you to know that you have a lot more to offer than most folks. I hope you come to believe in yourself in a positive way. Not a cocky way, because that is not who you are and it is not all that desirable.

However, you are a talented, kind-heafted, intelligent person and I want you to be secure in that truism.

There are lots of those types in the military in my experience. They score in the 99th percentile on the tests, but, if they actually have to do something, everyone nearby had better be ready to duck and cover. Nothing like having someone fail to secure a pressure gauge to the testing apparatus and bouncing it off the metal ceiling like a rocket or leaving hot leads connecting to bench power and leaving them dangling over the front of a workstation. Leads short to a lock on the tool drawer there and vaporize it quite spectacularly. Those will wake you up pretty quick. Then there are the guys who leave the high powered RF generators on unloaded and irradiate the entire work center, but that's not as startling in the moment.

I'm terrible with names, too. Another thing I halfheartedly blame on the military. I got too used to everyone wearing nametapes on their uniforms.

My Wife will begin a story/anecdote, the take a 'stream of consciousness' tour for the next 3-4 minutes, speaking whatever random thought pops into her mind. My job: hold onto that original idea so I can:

1. recognize it when it reurns
2. remind her of what she started when she says, "Where was I?"

My wife is amazing , I'm the weird one. I'm increasingly convinced that I have a mild form of autism, possibly Asperger's. Self diagnosis is rife with error, so I don't proclaim to be autistic at all, but my evidence includes things like:

- bad at conversation flows
- almost always take things literally
- nervous ticks and twitches
- able to concentrate for hours on the same task

One big twitch I have when thinking is to spastically slap the back of my head with my hands... I have to be careful not to do that at work.

Everyone is on the spectrum.
Everyone.
At some position.

Where we sit (and how we cope with/manage) our placement defines our place in this world.

But trust me: every single person you know, love and/or hate... is operating on The Spectrum, to some degree.

All of us.

I'm definitely the weird one in our house. I'd say I'm a little more intelligent than average. I went to a tough school and got a tough degree. I use a good chunk of it in my job...

... and I can't do something and hold a conversation at the same time. Often, I'll start walking somewhere and forget what I'm supposed to do when I get there. I'll start a sentence and forget the point of what I'm saying before I get to the end.

I am incapable of driving a car with a passenger, carry on a convo with them and follow a gps at the same time. I will always pay too much attention to the passenger and miss the turn.

I am good if I know where we are going, but I cant stare at the gps, drive, and talk. So the passenger gets navigation duties.

I think you and oober are having issues w/multitasking. I wouldn't worry about it.

For a long time, a lot of people bragged about their ability to multi-task. A lot of the teachers and administrators I worked with boasted about how they juggled several different tasks at once.

I was never one of those people. I make priority charts and get things done by order of importance and time constraints. My one principal would make fun of me because she said I couldn't do two things at once.

Well, come to find out........there has been research on the topic and people who multitask too much do a much poorer job than those who give their complete attention to one thing at a time.

The key is attention. Don't try and work on a project while watching TV. Don't try and carry on multiple conversations at one time. Don't start one job, move to the next, then another, and then back to one of the preceding ones. You waste time and are not efficient.

I bet you and oober are more productive than most folks. Don't let them fool you.

Well, in general I dont have a problem with multi tasking when it comes to work.

I keep extensive todo lists and plan a schedule of tasks for my workday and then follow the list. It frequently goes sideways because random things popup that have to be taken care of. But it all gets done in the end
.
Its just me and chatting and driving cars and staring at the gps that has a problem. Its much better when I dont have to stare at the gps.
