I agree. I think that is a symptom caused by the explosion of social media as a primary source of news and communication. And I'm not sure that genie will ever be put back into the bottle.
I doubt it will. As long as people are getting paid based on click-count or on number of followers.... and followers tend to click on dramatic headlines... there is no incentive to use more reasonable language..

I agree that social media doesn't help and definitely aggravated the situation to where we are now. However, I would also say 24 hour news + the popularity of reality tv is probably the root of the problem. 24 hour news because they have to keep people's attention 24/7 and bad news sells. Reality TV because the shows are so dull people tune in just to watch drama erupt between the contestants or for folks to be nasty and horrible to one another.
Unless of course we are talking the 'Great British Bake Off' where it's popularity came out of nowhere because even though it's all a bit twee, people found it refreshing that everybody was so nice and supportive.
I can't stand reality TV. You have to be damn near brian dead like it IMHO. At first it was novel and I liked shows like survivor and the amazing race. Hell I even liked the first couple of seasons of the celebrity apprentice... But then shows like big brother, MTV's real life(?), and the various love connection shows quickly turned me off.
24 hour news never bothered me much because I only tuned in for an hour at a time. As soon as they started repeating reports on the same subjects I turned the channel. But now it's like reality TV.
So I agree 100% that they are a symptom of the times too. However, I think social media is the true heavy hitter.
In fact I find a lot of irony in the fact that we have a generation of young people (my daughter included) whose favorite saying if you are ever critical of her is "don't judge me"... yet so many of them (and older folks) seem to love shows where everybody is nasty, backstabbing, and judgmental of everybody else...
I mean, you had apprentice, where the goal was to win as a team, which is good... but you had to make sure everybody viewed YOU as the main reason you won...
then you have Big Brother, where the goal of the game is to literally lie to everybody, build fake alliances, stab each other in the back when you get the chance, and be the last person standing...
They are on because they are popular.... my question is, why are they popular?
The brits make some good TV shows, and there are a few things worth watching on cable, netflix, or amazon but quality shows are far and few between these days. I still pay for directv just so I can see the browns play mostly. The rest of the year I could go without it and watch anything I want online or from a streaming service.
And just for the record, I don't think you are dumb by a long shot. I actually like you, we just don't play well together for long periods without some friction here and there.
That's the third GOP challenger she has I think. She's so popular I doubt they stand a chance in NYC. But if they think they can do better they should run, that's how it works.
One thing I would like to point out is that in post #1639470 above I posted a video that shows her stand against Amazon wasn't bad afterall. Amazon did not locate their HQ2 there, didn't get $3Bil in tax incentives, yet silently set up offices and will be hiring staff there anyway... So I don't see how her standing up to corporate socialism/welfare is considered a bad thing.
If Dollar General ever runs out of red lipstick she will be in trouble.
But she sure is fine wearing it.
She's politician hot.. that's kind of like being engineering hot.. there are so few decent looking women in that circle that being interestingly pretty elevates you above everybody else.. Put them in a room with women who are SERIOUSLY HOT.. and she wouldn't get noticed.

Agree, shes like a 4, that's surround by 1's. It makes her look like an 8.
Conversely, I am 2, surrounded by 5's, which makes me a -3

When she's wearing her glasses she has that librarian/teacher sexy thing going for her. And that smile is what makes her stand out more than anything.
There is something deeply disturbing where this thread has gone. But after all it is the trump era and this stuff is all normalized again, so have at it boys.

I'm sorry it bothers you that I think both of their voices are annoying.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
obviously another trustworthy law enforcement officer.
