You need to understand....soullessness is a requirement for politics on the national stage....if you have even a shred of genuine soul left in your body, then it will quickly become weaponized by your opponents in an attempt to make you appear weak, gullible, vulnerable, and above all else; human....these traits will quickly drag you towards a bottomless pit of integrity where many a principled politician have doomed themselves to insignificance amongst a horde of others with inconsequential political careers...

If all your positions are completely transparent, you can continually rebrand yourself to meet the current demand for whatever vacuous ideals that fascinate the majority that particular week...you don't even have to worry about straddling the fence, because you exist on a plateaued catwalk far above the terminally fixed positions of john q. public. You can switch sides with impunity as you climb the political ladder by riding the coattails of whatever values jockey who happens to dupe the public into thinking that he/she is going to bring about the change they've deluded themselves into believing in....
