July 26, 2019, 12:15 PM EDT By David K. Li A vandalized memorial to civil rights martyr Emmett Till in Mississippi was removed and is set to be replaced by a new bulletproof sign.
The marker, near where the murdered 14-year-old Till's body was found in 1955, was at the center of a disturbing photograph of three white University of Mississippi students posing in front of the signs with guns.
One of those students posted the photo to his private Instagram account in March, according to an article published this week by the Mississippi Center for Investigative Reporting and ProPublica. All three of the students have been suspended from their Ole Miss fraternity.
what they teach in the ole south ...trump era casualties.
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Thomas Jefferson.
Who has said it was a crime? Wrong isn't always a crime.
Wrong would depend on their intent for posing. If it was, "we wish we had shot the holes in this sign", or, "we approve of what happened to this kid", wrong. If they were posing with guns to say, "we will never let this happen again", not wrong. The story has no motive, no words from the posers, and no accusations on shooting the sign.
I hate saying this in a way because I have spent such a great deal of my life defending, supporting, and helping minorities against the unfairness they have faced. I still believe in those things w/all my heart, but I do have to say this:
The posting on this particular board is not fair. It seems that any time a crime or perceived injustice is committed by a white person or law enforcement, this board lights up w/outrage and talk about how deplorable these acts are.
Yet, similar crimes committed by black folks are not even mentioned. We had the huge fight at Disney. Video of this huge black man landing haymakers on a woman. Police are doused by water and have buckets thrown at them by citizens in New York. Another black woman gets in a fight, drops her baby and the baby dies. She lied about the death of the baby and got a friend or relative to lie about it, too. There is a video of black guy throwing haymakers at some old white dude and then kicking him.
Yet, no one even mentions these things. I think that is wrong.
I don't like despicable acts carried out by whites against minorities. And I don't like despicable acts committed by minorities. In my opinion, such acts are wrong no matter who commits them. And it is wrong to only focus on the deplorable acts of one side when both sides are committing them.
I am sure there are those who are offended by his actions and would like to rewrite that history too.
I am sure if you dig into it you will find things he has done wrong in his life, like any Human Being.
The only thing he had time for in his short 14 years on this planet was to be lynched by two brothers. In 1955. Accused of flirting with and laying hands on a 21 year-old White woman, he was dragged from his home, beaten, mutilated, shot in the head, and dumped in the Tallahatchie River. Years later, the woman recanted her accusations.
Your two insipid statements quoted above indicate that you knew/know nothing about Emmett Till, and cared so little that you didn't even bother to Google his name before trolling other posters in this thread.
This kind of lazy, half-assed stuff is why I bust your chops on the reg.
It's like My Pops always said: "The first rule of being a smartass is making sure you're smart first. If you don't have that going for you- you're just an ass."
Deflect by pretending I was talking about the tragic happenings to Till but you know very well I was talking about the memorial and the way you on the left play the game to tear them down.
