hack, doesn't it make you kinda wonder how things would have played out had Quinn showed up to camp on time..

We may have ended up just where we are at this moment,, Frye or Anderson Gone,, one of those as the starter with Quinn waiting in the wings and Dorsey being the mentor to Quinn.... Amazing how things work out sometime..

LIke others have speculated,, I think both Frye and Anderson were up for grabs to anyone,,, Frye was the first to get picked,,, thus he's gone...

The comedy of errors since 1999 continues....did they not have all off season to evaluate the QB position??

I can't see how Charlie is a scapegoat. His stats don't lie. And he holds onto the ball waaaay too long. Look at him Sunday. He looked like a deer in headlights. He had no clue what to do. Anderson got rid of the ball. Hell, it wasn't accurate, but he was finding receivers. If he would hit them, we'd be in business. But Frye just looked like he was lost. For as much that I heard about him studying film and the Steelers, he looked like it all went out the door.

If you listened/watched Savage's presser, he mentioned that Anderson gets rid of the ball. He said it a couple times, as if to emphasize that. For someone who is considered a pretty mobile QB, Frye took a lot of sacks. Why is that?

Because he held on and was indecisive. About the only time he wasn't was when he stared the receiver down from the snap of the ball until he threw it. Anderson ain't the most mobile QB in the world, but he seemed to do just fine back there. His problem is his accuracy. He can't hit the side of a barn sometimes, and it was very apparent Sunday.

Quinn will be playing at some point this year. That's evident. Anderson is only a short-term answer. And obviously Savage knows that while he has the chance, he might as well get compensated for a guy who won't be playing soon.

Except we wouldn't have that all important extra 6th round pick, but then we may have possibly avoided looking like complete boobs to the entire sports world.

I think they actually believe DA has the most upside, hence the reason for keeping him. How messed up is that?

The weird thing about this whole scenario is this: We all saw Anderson and Frye in the Preseason, and it was pretty obvious to everyone that Frye had the upper hand.

Then, once the season starts, he plays HORRIBLE, possibly the worst game by Frye that I have ever seen. He just would not throw the ball (IMO, his confidence took a big hit, everytime he double clutched it, he had wanted to throw it, but held back; dude was paranoid of making a mistake).

Now, we are going into week 2 with Anderson at the helm. Do you guys feel more comfortable with Anderson; a guy that many of you advocated cutting before the regular season?

Do you realize how disgusting of an admission that is?

We, in essence, kept a quarterback that cannot throw for the sole fact he gets rid of the ball when he's about to get killed and can chuck it hard. When he's getting killed, he'll get rid of the ball. When he's not getting killed, he can't be accurate enough to win. How on earth are we supposed to do anything with this guy and how does that make him better than Frye who, while he has a noodle arm and is scared to death in the face of a good blitz, can at least put a ball on spot?

I've been a Savage supporter up until this point but this move just reeks of desperation and stupidity.

We should use the extra pick to draft a kicker.

We've built some depth. Later picks this year were all sent to the PS, so draft a kicker. JMHO.

Pretty darn messed up if you ask me. We have Brady Quinn. He has all the upside we need. What we need is the quarterback that can best do damage control before Brady takes over and, despite his horrendous outing this week, that was Charlie Frye.

Did you watch the game on Sunday?

he could NOT put the ball spot on. Even when he had time to throw his throws were so off the mark it looked like I threw them.

Neither guy is accurate, but one runs for his life while the other gets the ball out quicker and is more stationary. The line didn't suddenly improve when Anderson got in.

Remember how many people wanted Anderson cut? Me included. One question I have is how long do the Browns keep Anderson? Is he a true backup? Do they keep him until the year is over and find a vet backup? Do the Browns draft a backup of the future? I think Quinn is way to young for that and plus the Browns have already made it clear that they dont want to play Dorsey at all. They would rather play an injured Frye in the last game last year over playing Dorsey.

Imagine that...of course, nothing backs up your opinion but hey, you wanted Troy Smith with the 3rd pick, too.

And those are????????..........................................................

Alot of other teams must have seen something in him if Savage is telling the truth about several teams trying to get him since last year. Kosar said he has a big upside. But what do these guys and team know compared to the Browns juggernot.

A "lot" of teams were interested .... and the result of this mighty bidding war was a 6th round pick.

Perhaps the interest was *ahem* slightly *ahem* overstated in the interests of getting the best possible trade for Frye, and so as not to insult him in the press.

And it's Juggernaut.

But honestly, how bad of a move is it? Would you rather keep the guy who won't throw the ball and take a sack or a guy who will make a quick decision, no matter how bad of a decision it is.

And to be quite honest, this was the worst possible offense we could have put Charlie in. He never was good at looking and throwing, never had the gunslinger in him to just chuck the ball; although he had different coordinators telling him to always protect the ball and don't make the big mistake. Too much pressure to not lose the game that he would end up trying to be perfect...and lose the game for us.

I'll tell ya Tyler,, I'll be the first to admit that Frye totally stunk on Sunday,, I don't even question that in the least.. there were some other problems as well, but now's not the time for that..

But what has me confused is this,, we go thorough the whole off season, mini camps, OTAs and TC and in the end, Frye wins the job.. He's given 1 and a half quarters, is pulled, then traded away..

I have to believe that going into the game on Sunday, they really felt that they had a better chance with Frye.

I know that frye sucked, but Anderson wasn't a whole lot better..

This is why I'm convinced (as are a few others) that both of them were put up on the block..... Kinda like an auction... I really think that Frye drew the most interest and thus he was traded... Remember, the first rumor was that he was going to atlanta....

I could be wrong, and I certainly have no proof of my thinking,,,, But to me, it all points to that....

To me, that first year, when he stepped in for Dilfer; Frye had that gunslinger approach. And last year, he had it for awhile too. But somewhere along the line he became too tentative and over-thought every throw. You saw it when he would constantly double-clutch. Like he saw a throw, then would pull it back. Do that two to three times and you're looking at a sack.

Think of it this way bro, they both have their problems. Some other team was willing to give us more for Frye. So what do you expect them to do? Neither guy is going to be playing at the end of the season. By the bye week, their season is probably over.

So if we can get something for Frye because teams are interested, why wouldn't we pull the trigger?

I think people are missing the whole point.

They only got a 5th for Green. Leftwich is still sitting and several teams wanted Frye even after Sundays game. Does that tell you anything MR WEBSTER.

I wish Frye the best of luck, personally. He's in a good organization and can learn from a lot of people there and possibly emerge a few years from now as a decent backup quarterback.

Now DA taking the reps isn't that bad of a situation. He's inexperienced, but has the ability to get rid of the ball, whether or not it'll hit the target consistantly is in question. I think that problem may work its way out within the next couple weeks as he works with the first squad.

Quin moves to number two, gets more reps, and the organization will start him within 6 games, that is unless Anderson actually surprises people by putting up good numbers and wins us games consistantly. Then Quin will sit the sideline, work in some reps in blowouts and not start till next year. I personally hope its the later, as much as I'd like to start the Quinn era this season.

I'm glad that the wishy washiness of the quarterback situation of who will be the starter is over and this program can move on, it helps not only the Qbs but the rest of the team by establishing who will lead them.

I too question the way Savage presented this information. He makes me feel uneasy for some reason. I would love to see a post by Lerner on this thread and see his thoughts on Savage.

Not necessarily, No offense ..... well ... at least no scoring offense anyway.

Seriously, Frye had 1 TD drive in the pre-season, and Lewis finished that one. Anderson had none. Neither guy "claimed" the job. Neither guy had a clear upper hand, nor showed superior capability. Both guys made mistakes ..... both guys did a couple of good things ...... but neither guy did enough, well enough, to be able to say that he was the undisputed winner.

Neither Frye nor Anderson are going to be superstar QBs. Anderson has shown some ability to step in on short notice and play moderately well. (with varying degrees of success, obviously, but his mid-game relief work has been decent) Anderson may well be the superior backup .... and that's the role either guy would ultimately fill here.

I'm personally going to miss Charlie Frye... not necessarily his performance on the field, but just his presence i guess.

I think the trade is questionable, but I'm pretty sure it came down to knowing they were going to get rid of him at some point, and the Seahawks were willing to give up a pick right now. I doubt the draft pick will even make the team, lol, but atleast we got something right?

1) Anderson
2) Quinn
3) Dorsey

Sooner or later, after Anderson throws a few games away, we will be seeing Quinn.

I'd like to know what the team thinks of the trade personally. Not just a team answer, to not stir up any trouble, but a truthful answer. I wonder if some are like FINALLY, and some are like what just happened?

Holy Crap...I agree with Tyler... Good job bro!!!

Honestly, I think it was the whole DA thing that screwed up his mind and I don't know if it was because he was trying to be perfect or what, but the difference from him now and when he first came into the league is night and day...and that's not good. Maybe sitting on the bench for a while he can get that back.

That Charlie Frye, at this moment, is worse than a QB who is a year or 2 away from retirement and better than an oft-injured overrated QB?

I'll elaborate smartass. Why were other teams so interested in getting him? Why did Kosar say he is a starting QB. I never heard a bad thing about Frye except on here from great football minds like you and Peen. What could Kosar, and several other teams know compared to you and fire everybody Peen?

Frye didn't seem happy since the day we drafted BQ, I think that he knew right there his days as a starter here were numbered. In a few weeks this will all be forgotten because BQ will probably take the reigns.
I wish Charlie well and I'm done arguing about him (not that I did much anyways).
Good luck kid.

This is nothing but a low class railroading and an attempt to deflect the blame. Charlie Frye was made a scapegoat for the incompetence of the entire organization. This was a classless act. There should be other heads roll too. RAC's head should be in the guillotine if the wins don't come immediately.Sorry, but this is the harshest criticism I've ever had of the Browns in my 52 years.

This Org. is a joke. I think Charlie knew exactly what he was doing taking those sacks. After the way Romeo handled this whole Fiasco I probably would want out of the MICKEY MOUSE OUTFIT too!

I'll keep the guy that has actually won a start. I'll keep the guy that has actually once played in a game without throwing a pick. I'll take the guy whose career completion percentage runs closer to 60-65% instead of 55% while running the same exact offense. I'll take the guy with guts and toughness who takes a pounding and wants more because he loves the city and team. I'll take the guy that every once in a while will have a "lights on" game where he is incredibly efficient versus the guy that is so inaccurate, he has no hopes of doing the same.

Charlie had an awful game - probably the worst I've ever seen him play in the NFL. I'll be the first to admit that. However, Anderson kept on his feet because the Steelers eased up on their blitz, and he STILL stunk.

In the end, what has Anderson done to deserve the starting spot next Sunday and a roster spot moving forward? He was a subpar college quarterback with a poor QB rating that went near the last round of the draft. He was cut from the Ravens before they had Steve McNair. He was our third stringer when the Dilfer trade forced him up a spot. He took over for Frye when he was hurt and did well for a half. Following that, he lost three straight games and the starting job to Frye for the last game of the year. Then he came into the pre-season, which Frye was underwhelming in, and somehow managed to lose the quarterback battle. Frye was playing horribly on Sunday so Anderson followed... and was awful as well. I don't care if a guy throws the ball away well if half his throws are at his receivers' feet or behind them. Anderson has not showed me a single thing to encourage me we'll be OK without Frye before Quinn is taking over.

Oh... but as Savage reminded us several times in the press conference... he has an arm. Please, Phil.

Watching preseason, I thought Frye would get the job. It's not that I thought he played well, but he just seemed to have a little better grip of the game. He was a little more accurate. But it was preseason. Their end results in the games were pretty similar. Enter the regular season.

There is NO WAY a quarterback in their 3rd season with starting experience should ever look the way Frye did Sunday. Quinn would have played better, whithout a doubt. Frye looked completely LOST. Anderson didn't play much better. He at least look like he knew what the hell to do. His accuracy was HORRENDOUS, though. He's usually off, but not that bad.

Basically, neither guy impressed. Quinn will take over sometime this season. So one of these guys are expendable. If Frye is getting more hits than Anderson and we can get something for him, then do it.

In a very simplistic sense, I think it has to do with his arm strength, the percieved ability to stay in the pocket and make all the passes in the playbook, and the fact that Charlie got sacked five times in ten attempts. Even if you take away the sacks, (if those are the reasons,) there is no reason to have started Charlie in the first place, so if that's the case then it really does come down to his poor performance on Sunday and he played himself right out of town. What other teams wanted had nothing to do with it, IMHO.

I believe that's a guy standing over there, but by looking at his profile,I can't tell if that's a jugger not?

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Honestly, neither deserve A starting job...and by the end of the year neither will. I think the fact that they could get something for Frye was the deciding factor to trading him...because if even if you like it or not, they weren't going to be on our roster next year anyway.

you had a good run Hank.

Love to see the paperwork and the criteria used to determine our "winner" in the annual qubee scavenger hunt. How do you go from victorious starter to trade bait in 48 hours? He played bad, but did he sparkle in practice? HOW in God's name did he win? And Dorsey is back; Quinn the Eskimo is in, sooner rather than later. What a ludicrous front office for keeping him through camp. Blind loyalty comes to mind. I do NOT care who wins us games. Find us a vet!

May the Elf be with us!

Actually I don't know how they spell it where I come from, but they say Geo Bush sometimes misspells words and look how smart he is. Right Pit

Face it DA sucks and everyone knows it. You think we're a laughing stock now, wait till next week.
Rac should be gone at the Bye, (a year to late)
CF should have been traded during the draft,Dorsey should have started till Quinn was ready(even with a limited off. is our best QB) and DA should be selling car ins.
At least Dorsey could get the offense on the same page.
Romeo really appears clueless and unproffesional in all this, firing him now would not set this team back at all

tackman?

who brought the QB's that we have in here?

So instead of Romeo being on the block, shouldn't it be Savage?

Yup...now that you mention it. Next time we go thru a total rebuild (and it will prob. happen) I hope Randy hires FO people with actual exp. at the job they are hired for, not "the next (insert famous name)" And Romeo really does appear lost, so yeah both of them!
