I take it you don't care for people trying to improve the world. Is that how you felt about human rights protests? About civil rights protests? About women protesting for their right to vote?

You see, civil unrest and protest have been around from the time this nation was founded.

Being against that is pretty much unAmerican.

I don't care for filling the world with bus fumes in an effort to clean it.

I don't care for stopping traffic on the roads so vehicles sit there running for hours.

Yeah, it's a shame we have buses that belt out pollution. Someone ought to try to do something about that. Oh, wait.....

But China’s busses are dirtier so who cares? Right?

It's Non existent in almost every city and town around here.

Never underestimate the stupidity of some folks as yes that has been suggested to me on several occasions.

That’s what infrastructure spending is for. But your boy threw a tantrum and didn’t want to do anything. We got great plans and future plans that are sitting in the graveyard that is the republican senate.

Oh I don't underestimate the stupidity of some folks. I just don't try to indicate that the stupidity of some folks represent the sentiments of the vast majority of most folks.

I do as I think most people are stupid.

I don't think any of that actually changes the practicality of our nation being energy independent and trying to have a cleaner planet.

Don't really want to get off topic, cause this thread is mostly interesting once you read passed the bickering.

But I wanted to comment on this post, because I found it interesting in our travels abroad, that when we would sit in a pub and talk to the locals, one question that has come up several times, and I imagine if not for being concerned for being offensive might come up more, was "Why are so many Americans obese?"

As an American, I guess part of me is conditioned to seeing overweight people everywhere, so after getting this question I started looking and noticed very few obese people in our travels.

It made me ask myself that question, and I began to notice something else. That fast food restaurants were far and few between in places we visited. There were cafes and restaurants on every corner, but McD, KFC, etc would be like 1, maybe 2, locations throughout a major city like Rome, Paris, London.

I also noticed many people carrying a small bag of groceries during their commute home, leading me to believe they are buying fresh ingredients for dinner prep, and not doing a once a week buy of groceries like we tend to do in the states, where I notice many carts tend to fill up with junk food and heavy preservative foods.

I’ve noticed the same in my travels. Americans are generally easy to pick out of a crowd. Fat.
In places like Amsterdam everyone rides bikes. The women were stunning.

Actually 99% of China's 400,000 buses are electric.. the United States is gaining on them though, we are almost to 2,000.

Greta Thunberg rails at world leaders at UN General Assembly: 'You have stolen my dreams and childhood'

Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg on Monday railed at world leaders at the United Nations, saying they have stolen her dreams and childhood, forced children to take the reins in the fight against climate change and did not react to decades of scientific warnings.

“My message is that we will be watching you,” Thunberg said during the U.N. General Assembly climate summit. “This is all wrong. I shouldn't be up here, I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean, yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you.”

She also said that world leaders "have stolen my dreams, my childhood, with your empty words and yet I’m one of the lucky ones."

"People are suffering, people are dying, entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of the mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you,” Thunberg added.



The 16-year-old started demonstrating outside the Swedish Parliament last year, sparking nationwide, youth-led climate protests. The Nobel Peace Prize candidate traveled by boat to attend the U.N. climate summit.

On Monday, she also called out world leaders for saying they’re “doing enough” when the “politics and solutions needed are nowhere in sight,” and said they have ignored more than 30 years of “crystal clear” science warning of the impacts of climate change.

“You say you hear us, and that you understand the urgency, but no matter how sad and angry I am I do not want to believe that,” Thunberg said. “Because if you really understood the situation and still kept on failing to act you would be evil, and that I refuse to believe.”

Thunberg testified before Congress last week. Instead of giving a speech, however, she submitted the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Special Report on Global Warming as her testimony, and urged lawmakers to “listen to the scientists.”

Hundreds of thousands of protesters in major cities across the world on Friday participated in global climate strikes ahead of the U.N. summit.

Hell, back in the 70's, listening to the news, I was scared of the 'imminent ice age'.

I've got no problem reducing pollution. Sad thing is, it's the demand for electricity. Fracking is frowned upon, wind power is frowned upon by some..........and meanwhile, the earth will do what it has historically done: Warm up, and cool down.

But at least the youth now has been brainwashed that within some 12 year period the oceans will flood the earth and all mankind will die.

Pretty sure the youth are fed up with all of us. But we’ll all continue to ignore them and the climate issue anyways. Children being the adults in the room pisses you off right?

I find it very sad yet also revealing that adults cast doubt and cynicism on teens who simply want a better world & future and actively campaign for it. Strangely, many of those adults also come from the same generation that literally did the same thing 50+ years ago and protested Vietnam and fought for Civil Rights. Yet, they now question the motives of the Parkland teens and Greta. Rather, we should admire her for using her privilege and speaking out for those who can't and those who the world has turned their backs on.

I don't subscribe to the "Man is the reason for climate change", but I do believe we have an impact on it, and for sure we are impacting our environment in a negative manner, from air pollution to water pollution, to de-forestation, extinction of species.

But I also know many are trying to make change, and change is slow.

And we have to remember that many of the older generation are the reason we have many of the more efficient technologies we have today.

On a side note: I've wondered what the environmental benefits of email has been over postal mail since like 2000. How many tons of carbon dioxide have we saved from being released.

I just like it because the so called environmentaly conscience leave their garbage everywhere. And you guys respect them.

I would think you would like it. I mean it creates job security for minimum wage workers to clean it up, right?

My point was that I would think these people would clean up agree themselves. I guess they want the government to do that for them too. Only good for waving signs and screwing up traffic.

I didn't know some litter that can easily be picked up and disposed of was considered, "screwing up the environment".

Yes, people should pick up after themselves. But it's hilarious how you find this more disturbing than rising ocean levels, dying coral reefs, melting polar caps and things that will destroy the entire planet.

But then you have excuses for that too.

Votes for and supports a guy that scraps clean water and clean air legislation. Hates kids that litter. Rich.

I'm curious, what are you going to do to solve the (imaginary) climate crisis? All the children want to do is be mad and blame someone. Do you have a better solution?

Sure I do. Just like the scientific community and almost every expert on the matter does.

Move towards cleaner and renewable energy. This helps lessen the carbon footprint we are leaving. Not only for a healthier planet, but to stop so many in our military from fighting and dying over foreign oil.

The quicker we are energy independent from foreign oil, the more secure we are as a nation. I thought that would at least be something you are in favor of.

And yes, the coral reefs are dying. They actually have film showing the coral reefs only twenty years ago and as of today. Once again, something that can not be disputed.

You do realize that ocean levels can and are measured, right? You do realize that isn't something that's debatable. And yes the polar cap is melting at a level higher than ever before.

You see, you may be able to argue concepts. These are not concepts. They are facts. You can't just make up your own facts. Well I guess you can because you just did.

PSYCHOLOGISTS WARN PARENTS, CLIMATE CHANGE ALARMISTS AGAINST CAUSING 'ECO-ANXIETY' IN CHILDREN

Psychologists warned parents and guardians about being climate change alarmists, noting an increasing number of children who are being treated for "eco-anxiety."

Researchers at the University of Bath and members of the Climate Psychology Alliance (CPA) in the United Kingdom say children are commonly being subjected to a barrage of concerns about the future of the planet and "environmental doom." Psychologists speaking with The Telegraph this week said a rising number of kids and young adults are being treated with psychiatric drugs in order to reduce the emotional stress and exhaustion caused by "eco-anxiety," or, a fervent fear that humans will go extinct as a result of their own pollution and damage to the environment.

But CPA members said they don't want the rising "eco-anxiety" social phenomenon in children to be classified as a mental illness because it is a "rational" fear, unlike the causes behind most standard anxiety issues.

Caroline Hickman, a University of Bath teaching fellow and CPA executive, told The Telegraph Sunday, "The symptoms are the same [as clinical anxiety], the feelings are the same, but the cause is different. The fear is of environmental doom—that we're all going to die."

Hickman added that parents, unlike global political leaders, should discuss global warming and the effects of man-made climate change with their children, but she warned against portraying the issues as though they are dooming mankind. Hickman cautioned that when children and young adults are told climate change will end humans, kids approach mental health experts asking questions such as, "what's the point in going to university", or "what's the point of doing my exams?"

"Parents need to find some words to talk about it that is age-appropriate and not terrifying," she continued. "You need to separate what is fact from what is unknown: tell them some species are going extinct and some humans are being harmed, but don't say we're all going to die, because that isn't true."

Psychoanalytic psychotherapist and Climate Psychology Alliance co-founder Adrian Tair has appeared in several videos informing educators, parents and others on "facing difficult truths about climate change and ecological crisis." The CPA offers a four-stage recommendation on how parents should address climate change concerns with the children. The first step involves introducing known facts about the issue and asking for their response before scaring them with any acknowledgement that human extinction is the ultimate outcome. The final step is providing children with day-to-day, tangible steps to cutting back on greenhouse gases and pollution. The CPA suggests discussion of reducing non-recyclable wastes, wiser choices in food and cutting energy consumption around the house.

In 2017, the American Psychological Association issued a report analyzing "climate grief" and there is a growing body of research into how the tangible effects of climate change combine with increased global calls to action are effecting the humans' sense of humanity and self. The increasing visibility of climate change effects, the researchers wrote, is producing feelings of depression, anxiety and helplessness in the face of potential extinction.

Much of the cited research seeks to "mitigate the toll of emotional exhaustion" on those concerned with climate change.

In the United States, adults are shocked to find that kids are on anxiety medication and see no hope for their future after being told for years that if they are lucky enough to not get shot in school, they might live long enough to see the planet die...

Sadly it seems that the youth are the only ones to care enough about the future to take any real action.

I've always heard the theories of how we should insulate our children from the truth. Sadly that never seems to work. They figure it out anyway then wonder why it was their parents and educators, the people they are supposed to trust and look to for honesty who were hiding the truth from them in the first place.

I'd say if more adults looked into climate change like they should, many of them may have anxiety about it too. And teachers have been advocating that parents give drugs to their children for a very long time now. This isn't some new phenomenon to come along with Climate Change.

If the data showing we are cleaning up our envirement is false then what are you going to do?

What I find very sad is that you want to force this globel warming crap down young folks throats without letting them think for themselves. You want them to eat up the crap your spewing instead of letting them do their own research.
