We have our troops protecting Saudi and Syrian oil. So why not our children?
The Posse Comitatus Act limits the use of troops to border protection or to support state and local officers in times of riot.
If a Governor allocated State Police(troopers) to guarding schools, then called on National Guard support, maybe it would fly, but no, you couldn't have active military or national guard protecting schools.
At least as the laws now read.
I think it would be better if every parent with a child in school was required to monitor halls once or twice a school year. Give them radios to the school officer and alert of a problem. Maybe go with 2 officers a school.
Only have 1 door open to go in, and 2 parents at every door to monitor, I think it would work.
Obviously it would have to be like jury duty. A parents employer would have to pay them when called for monitor duty.
On any given day you might have 15 adults walking the grounds. Watching doors...watching children.. the goods ones and the bad ones.
If I was in charge, I'd make that a law tomorrow.
