I dropped my wife off at the airport so she could fly to Florida to be with her mother for Thanksgiving. My youngest son is headed over around noon to hang a few hours while his girlfriend has dinner with her family.

So being down my wife and other children, I am planning a non-traditional turkey day. No turkey on the table today. My butcher had some nice prime strip steaks in the case. I had him cut me a almost 5lb "steak" which I will roast, fat side up. I have had it aging for 6 days so it is starting to dry down nicely. It will be roasted at 450 for 15 minutes, then down to 300 for maybe 30 minutes when I start checking the internal, pulling at 120-125, then rest for 20 minutes.

To go along I have garlic mashed potato's and mixed veggies in a cheese sauce.

I haven't picked the wine as of yet. Just one of the ready to drink bottles. Not one of my aged bottles that need to be prepped several days before decanting.

Before I have some shrimp and a few cheese selections to nibble on while watching the Lions game.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Pretty traditional.

Roast turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, potato salad, deviled eggs, rolls, corn, dutch apple pie, pumpkin pie and cherry pie. And of course vanilla ice cream for the pie.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Don’t have the whole clan today

I’m the certified oven master of the family. and as such, I am responsible for the turkey.

We got Mac and cheese, stuffing, melted broccoli and cheese, corn casserole, green beans wrapped in bacon with chopped almond nuts, dinner rolls, mash potatoes, with cranberry sauce and plenty of Jack Daniels and vodka.

And my wife is making her Goulash recipe from Germany, and homemade apple pies.

And I have the vodka too. But right now I'm drinking tea.

Oh, and I have kalamata olives to snack on.

They must make Rock Cornish Hens bigger in the South. Every time I see them at the grocery up here, they look the size of pigeons. Those look like rotisserie chickens. Yum.

I use to do those in the east village for friends who didnt have anything to do on Thanksgiving. I would do a half dozen and split them.

When I used to eat meat we would stuff our chicken w/lemon as well.

We baked our salmon with lemon, which helps keep it moist, but also gives it that lemony tang.

I had 2 smokers going....a 12lb turkey and 4lbs of kielbasa in one, and 6lbs of salmon in the other. Nothing like tending the fires on a brisk Thanksgiving morning while downing a few cold ones.

I thought you were alive during the 70's? Maybe you should have been smoking stronger stuff.
