Pavlik put pressure on Taylor for all 12 rds. His landing % was less than Taylors but when you throw 400 more punches than your opponent you do have the upper hand. Congrats Kelly, way to represent Ohio.

Good, clean fight. Not what I was expecting. I had a suspiscion it would go the distance, but I envisioned some bigger shots being landed. I for one was a little scared watching it. Kelly was obviously the aggressor, far outthrowing Taylor. But I thought Taylor landed the bigger power punches. It depended on what kind of judge you have scoring it- the judge who looks for the number of shots landed, or the judge who looks for the bigger shots landed. I really thought it could go either way, but am psyched that the judges all got it right.

I think that what was impressive here was that Taylor didn't run his big, fat mouth this time, and fought a good, clean, hard fight. It was close, and I'm glad I'm not a judge. Pavlik by a round, but not by 6 like one judge had it,....
They ought to do it like hockey, or NFL overtime,...first knockdown after 12 rounds wins.

ESPN had Pavlik throwing something like 845 punches to Taylors 450. That is absolutely crazy. If I attempted to throw that many punches, I wouldn't be able to lift my arms for a month.
I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

Without his title on the line, Pavlik showed up and fought a well spirited fight. In the first fight Taylor connected with a barrage of punches, putting Pavlik on the canvas in the second round. Pavlik can take a hit, and by all rights that fight should have ended there, but Pavlik's heart is as strong as his chin is solid. After regaining his feet he took 35 more solid shots in that round but made it to his corner. With Taylor punched out, Pavlik took control and took the last of Taylor's energy putting him down and out in the seventh.
Taylor in an effort to avoid that same trap, tried to pace himself this time and pace himself he did, allowing Pavlik to throw on average 2:1 more punches every round. Taylor's stamina is still haunting him, with the better arsenal of punches and a much better jab, Taylor simply couldn't throw them enough to out point the machine that is Pavlik. The question answered last night, could Pavlik go 12 rounds and maintain his punch output as he had never gone past nine. Taylor has made a career of going the distance. Pavlik went 12 easily and last two rounds was fighting a spent Taylor. Even with pacing himself all evening, Taylor had nothing left in the tank.
The scoring on the fight was, well, done by boxing judges... It's like rolling the dice sometimes.
One judge had it 115 - 113 This judge I agreed with. Over-all Pavlik out pointed Taylor but when he could throw them, Taylor had better command of his punches. Going into the 11th round it was still anyone's fight. One judge had it 116 - 112 Okay, I could see this depending on the style fight you like. One judge had it 117 - 111 This guy/gal is on drugs, seriously.

YSU has never gotten so much pub as last night with those trunks lol.
Kelly never looked like he was in serious trouble. Taylor looked like he was gonna get into trouble in the 11th I believe but locked him up and was able to pull through the rest of the fight.
Taylor did a much better job of staying out of trouble in this fight than the first one - staying off the ropes, keeping moving. But Pavlik was on him all night, clearly initiating everything by going at Taylor.
They both landed some great shots, but like I told my buds Taylor had to clearly beat Pavliks ass if it went to the cards to win the fight and he didn't do that. Being the Champ I think gives you a little lee-way and Kelly used it IMO.
Great job Kelly! Here's to the next one!

So many replies to a boxing thread? If this guy wasn't from Ohio, then this thread would be at the second page of this forum already. Boxing died right along with professional hockey, Boxing will never lose the corruption attached to the once great sport, and honestly I could care less now who's the champ in whichever division.
Sad, but I wouldn't waste my time with a sport that I once truly enjoyed.

As much as I don't care for the NHL, it's gaining popularity on the NBA. Same as NASCAR. I don't even consider that a sport. Very uninteresting, but it's gained quite a bit of popularity the last 10 years.
Boxing doesn't have the superstars that it did back in the day. I think Kelly is a guy that a lot of people identify with and is someone that will help out boxing. I'm happy for the guy and glad he's bringing attention to Youngstown. It was great to go out to Quaker Steak in Austintown and see the place filled wall to wall with people there for the fight to support him.

I'm with you on that Jaybird. I don't follow boxing at all anymore. UFC is a far more exciting genre. They can end so quick. Bring on the Octagon!!!
