Men in balaclavas packing semi-automatic rifles and wearing camouflage, bulletproof vests and combat boots marched into the Kentucky Capitol in Frankfort on Friday, driving out terrified visitors.

The men were gun rights activists and members of the group We Are KY Gun Owners, staging a Second Amendment rally proving they have a right to appear to be a paramilitary operation in the open carry state. They were allowed by security to step around the Capitol’s metal detectors.

“We can’t just whittle away one little piece here, one little piece there,” Calen Studler told the Louisville Courier Journal, referring to gun rights. “Then the [Constitution] doesn’t mean what it says anymore.”

Some Twitter users wondered how America would react if the men were not white.

Imagine if Dems were this upset about the actual Taliban. Instead it's legal gun owners peacefully protesting. But they're white guys, so priviledge or something, requires vitriol.

Many of you should look up “open carry while black”.

Imagine if people worried about the rise in domestic terrorism and the fact that they are responsible for more acts of terrorism in our nation today than Muslims are.

Now imagine we have government buildings with metal detectors to keep out firearms and somehow these people were allowed to enter these building anyway with firearms.

At this moment the State Capitol of Kentucky is the safest it has ever been.

The hilarious and infuriating part of all this, (and I'm a supporter of the 2nd), is that these morons doing this only push the country closer to the end that they're fighting so hard against.

Do they really think walking into a govt building looking like a paramilitary force, causing a panic, and brandishing their firearms (they totally look like curated pictures of Taliban,etc.) is really helping their cause.

If it were up to me, each one of these clowns would be evaluated to see if they have the mental capacity to responsibly own a firearm. Instead of seeing examples of most gun owners who responsibly exercise their right, we see these idiots on the news because their game of dress-up caused a panic.

Because of a bunch a yahoos with guns? Nahhh.... but you can believe that if you want.

I know LOTS and LOTS of people with guns - and MOST that I know who are gun owners have lots of guns (many have more than 20 or 30), not just a firearm to keep at home - I even got to shoot a Barrett 50 Cal because a friend has one and it's legal in my state.

One of the misconceptions many have - is that because THEY are safe and take their gun ownership seriously, they tend to believe that everyone else who is a gun owner is the same. That is NOT true - and given the wide spread nature of gun ownership and how it appeals to the male jock psyche and just based on how many idiots there are in the world, I'd suggest that the majority of gun owners are NOT super safe. jmo

My belief is a gun is an inanimate object. It's the people/person that picks it up that decides if it's safe or not. Given the judgement shown by these individuals, I think everyone should get as far away as possible from KY Capitol Building.

I'm in 100% agreement. I have no idea why these dudes always have to show up with the biggest gun they can find, in fatigues, with ammo belts, with 4 extra clips, kevlar on, helmets, etc (and sometimes faces covered).....

If you want to represent why the average American wants to own a gun, that's not freaking it.

In the end, these types of displays will do far more harm than good to their cause.

The assault by the left on the 2nd amendment should concern all Americans. Most Americans are color blind anyway. Citizens protesting in favor of gun rights is a welcome sight.

Being a gun owner isn't something that is defined by a race, gender, political party, or anything else.

I am always happy to see people supporting our Constitutional Rights.

Did they call, plan, and have permits for the rally?

Security seemed to have been prepared for and was expecting it.

I'm fine with the legality, owning guns, carrying them. I'm a bit concerned about the raising them in the air with one hand in celebration for a photo op.

They are an unpleasant reality that deserves responsible use and handling, not something to play with.

I didn't say it, but I did think it when I saw the second photo. The raise our guns in the air and shake them bit has a straight out of Afghanistan vibe.

What’s funny about losers like these are that they’re always filled with a bunch of dudes who will do everything BUT join the army.

You watch the interviews of guys like these in their trash ass militias, and it’s always some “I would’ve join but I got hurt”, which translates to “I was one of the few losers who couldn’t cut it in basic and got kicked out”. Or don’t even try.

The “I support our military right up until I get selected for the draft”. Basically the non wealthy versions of ted nugent and Donald trump.

They hate it because they can't take away other rights before they take away that right. The 2nd is the right of the people to preserve all the other rights.

If the 2nd falls, everything else falls pretty quickly. Those who don't think so better wake up, if they are indeed interested in preserving our freedoms.

My attitude is anybody against the 2nd is either stupid or against our freedom.
