VA House Committee Passes Firearm Storage Law, Handgun Purchase Limit

The House of Delegates’ Public Safety Committee on Friday passed a firearm store law and a bill limiting the number of handguns Virginians can purchase, among other gun controls.

WHSV reports the gun controls, “almost all… passed on a 13-9 party line vote,” with the Democrats voting for them and Republicans against.

Universal background checks were among the controls passed. Such checks criminalize a neighbor who sells a five-shot revolver to a lifelong neighbor without first getting government permission via a background check. While making criminals out of the law-abiding, they do nothing to stop gang members and street criminals from selling stolen guns to one another in dark alleys, drug houses, and parking lots.

Del. Mark Levine (D-45th Dist.) boasted the committee also passed a bill allowing local municipalities to enact gun bans for certain areas whether the state legislature enacts such bans or not. The bill particularly allows local municipalities to ban concealed carry in parks and public buildings. In other words, the bill, should it pass, would allow local municipalities to ban carry by those who have gone through the legal process of acquiring a license to carry for self-defense.

Ironically, the May 31, 2019, Virginia Beach shooting occurred in a building where employees were banned from carrying guns for self-defense. The Crime Prevention Research Center reported: “Virginia Beach bans employees from being able to carry guns. In addition, while it was indeed possible for a civilian to enter the ‘Operations Building’ where the attack occurred, the ‘Operations Building,’ as its name suggests, was a building where virtually only employees would be in.”

But one city employee ignored the ban, carrying in two .45 caliber handguns into the gun free area in order and inflicting death on the unarmed.

Virginia Senate blocks another Northam-backed gun bill

Virginia lawmakers on Monday rejected a gun control bill proposed by Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam, as the state continues to become the battleground in the nation's gun debate.

The bill is one of eight the Northam has proposed for adoption, drawing the ire of gun-rights activists nationwide.

Two Democrats -- state Sens. Creigh Deeds and Chap Petersen -- joined with Republicans to defeat the measure. They cited concerns that law-abiding gun owners would be unfairly punished.

Another measure that would ban so-called assault weapons like AR-15 rifles is also in danger of falling short.

Bloomberg said in a recent interview, he wants all guns with the ability of firing more than 3 bullets to be banned. Seeing is how that's 99.9% of all guns in America, that sure sounds like a full repeal of the 2nd amendment to me (I thought this was about common sense).

U.S. President George Washington said, "When government takes away citizens' right to bear arms, it becomes citizens' duty to take away government's right to govern."

Nobody is trying to take away your muskets.

What are you trying to do? And once you get this is that the end or will you guys just start pushing for more until we are unarmed? Maybe some day we can be just like England.

I'm not pushing for anything. I'm pro second amendment. But I hate it when people say and do foolish things that only hurt the cause.

George Washington only had muskets and cannons around when he said that. I find it a foolish thing to use in an argument.

It's just like people dressed up in paramilitary garb flashing military style rifles around in and on state house grounds.

Despite overwhelming opposition from gun owners and gun rights groups, Virginia Democratic lawmakers on Friday advanced legislation that would ban the sale of some semiautomatic firearms as well as end the possession of high-capacity magazines.

Gun supporters packed a state House committee room and shouted in protest when legislation to ban the sale of assault weapons like AR-15 style-rifles, prohibit the possession of silencers as well as magazines that hold more than 12 rounds, passed out of committee. The uproar caused Capitol Police to clear the committee room of almost every spectator following the vote, The Associated Press reported.

Elections have consequences. All those Virginia gun owners in gun groups should’ve showed up and voted, as everybody knew this was coming.

Either they didn’t show up, or there’s not nearly as many in the state as some would think.

Assault weapons ban advances in Virginia legislature amid fierce opposition

A Virginia state House committee on Friday passed a bill that would ban the sale of certain semi-automatic firearms, including the popular AR-15 style rifles.

H.B. 961 would also ban silencers and magazines that hold more than 12 rounds. It was passed out of the House Public Safety Committee by a vote of 12-9.

The bill, which has the support of Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D), will now make its way to the floor of the state's Democratic-controlled House of Delegates.

Pro-gun residents of the state packed the committee room for the vote, and when the measure passed, the crowd erupted into protest, an ABC affiliate reported. People became so agitated that law enforcement was forced to disperse the crowd.








After the vote passed, National Rifle Association (NRA) spokeswoman Catherine Mortensen described the bill as an "egregious gun ban" that will "make millions of law-abiding Virginians felons overnight."



Earlier this year, the Virginia House of Delegates passed seven other Democratic gun reform laws.

The bills include regulations implementing universal background checks and “red flag” legislation allowing officials to take guns from those determined to be dangerous to themselves or others.
