He also mentioned something about some findings that at 27 Celsius it could not survive long at all. Got a few months in order to hit those kind of temps across the globe. Sort of. It’s currently fall season in the Southern Hemisphere. It’ll be interesting as temperatures drop in places like Australia to see if it starts showing up there. it's already there. If you want to avoid it, the only continent available right now is Antarctica, lol A lot of penguins down there, might catch the bird flu. How did we miss the opportunity to call the outbreak in China a Panda-demic?

Exactly.
That doesn't affect the fact that this is still a serious and developing situation that very much has the capability of developing to the extent where that statement becomes inverted.
This is going to be ongoing for, at a minimum, the next several weeks; far more likely the next several months.
What is happening RIGHT NOW, and in these next couple of weeks, largely affects whether or not this is something of immediate concern a few months from now. IF they can actually slow its spread enough to begin to combat it, then perhaps in June we get to say it wasn't that big of a deal.... otherwise, come June, we get to say "remember when ...". So, the fact that a major tourist center for the entire EU and the world at-large just had almost 800 new cases overnight.... that IS a pretty big deal as it pertains to the future.
Prospective.

The thing to be looking for is more countries clearing all cases than there are getting new cases.
Currently, globally, only Cambodia and Vietnam have cleared all active cases, though the Philippines is close to joining that list.
There are still new countries getting their first cases added daily. South Africa was added overnight, and while early on it looked like the southern hemisphere would remain clean, it is pretty much everywhere there, now. It is appearing in more nations in Africa and South America, almost daily.

Well, it took awhile, but their numbers updated. I think they've been a little busy. Almost 800 new cases in Italy overnight.

Italy is suspending all gatherings/events and closing schools and universities nationwide... that suggests it is no longer limited to the north around Milan.
To add to/update this: 41 new deaths in Italy, bringing their total to 148 (3.8%). It is now in all 22 regions of the country; it is no longer isolated to the north around Milan/Turin.

Until we have far more tests being ran in the U.S., we have no clue what's really going on here.

I just saw something where we currently don't have enough test kits to handle to anticipated demand in the near term. A statement by Pence in the NYPost "We don’t have enough tests today to meet what we anticipate the demand going forward" To the rest, it appears that other roadblocks may be getting removed. "We have more than 2,500 kits that are being distributed around the country this week that will make more than 1.5 million tests available at hospitals that have requested them, and in areas of the country that have been particularly impacted by the coronavirus," "We’re issuing new guidance, effective immediately, from the CDC that will make it clear that any clinician or health authority can administer the test"

I know that there was a bad batch of test kits previously, which wasn't that long ago, and that a pretty big impact on the ability to test aside from the CDC's initial stance of only testing people that met certain criteria.

I'm not trying to point to anything nefarious. I understand that some of the early test kits were contaminated and the guidelines for testing were too strict.
My comment was directly a comment in regards to us having no idea of how widespread the problem is until a lot more testing is done.

Oh, I totally get it. There were a number of factors involved early on, but it looks like the valve is about to get opened a little with this next batch of kits. I think production of the kits remains an issue, though.
I think that is why the CDC last week allowed state agencies to use anyone's kits going forward.

By the way, to take something from Pence's words... they don't feel that 1.5 million tests is enough to handle demand going forward.
I think that says a lot about the expected trajectory.

According to the World Health Organization, mosquito bites result in the deaths of more than 1 million people every year. And you are running around trying to find hand sanitizer.

Given what was revealed about the likelihood of it spreading for as long as six weeks in Washington completely untracked and unchecked, I'd be shocked if the numbers don't explode as the test kits roll out over the next week.
Heck, test kit availability might be why we're seeing the numbers climb so dramatically in other locations. Test kit availability will likely either be a great tool in helping to reign it in, or it will be the bell cow that signals that all attempts to control it are moo.

So... no different than everyone's current perspective.
The odds of getting killed in a car wreck while heading out for toilet paper are higher than catching Corona. Perspective. Saw a meme today and the number check out, it said. Roughly 100,000 documented cases of coronavirus, with about 3000 deaths have shook economies, shut down cites, crippled international trade, and get 24/7 non-stop coverage on the news. But approximately 25,000 people a day die of starvation, 9.1 Million a year. And nobody talks about that. Why? Rich people are not affected by starvation.

I read something on Twitter yesterday from a reporter who was talking to an ER Doctor Who is treating patients that have flu like symptoms but didn’t seem like they had the flu. When the doctor started investigating, one of the patients worked in an airport as a screener, one had just come home from a cruise, and another had relatives visiting from out of the country. He wanted to test them for coronavirus and was told by somebody that he could not test (they didn’t say who denied permission). The patient who worked at the airport asked Dr. what he should do and the doctor said he should self quarantine for two weeks. The guy who worked at the airport said he could not take two weeks off without the test, The doctor said I cannot give you the test. The doctor asked the guy what he was going to do, the guy said he was going to go to work the next day and tell them he had a cold. He told the doctor he could not take two weeks off he had to go back to work or he would lose his job, and he needed the paycheck.

j/c... If anyone has 1hr 48 mins to kill, Infectious Disease Experts testified today on the Coronavirus. It aired on C-SPAN. It's not something I'm overly concerned with or even think about on a daily basis, but found their statements worthwhile. I thought Dr. Hotez's comments that they would have already had a vaccine for COVID-19 during the SARS outbreak had the funding been appropriated interesting. Here's the video link... https://www.c-span.org/video/?470035-1/infectious-disease-experts-testify-coronavirus

It's weird to think that 200 new cases might be a positive sign, BUT, *ONLY* 200 new cases in South Korea yesterday.
They just might be slowing it down.

More than 1,500 new cases in Iran; they're up to 4,747. We're over 100,000 cases worldwide, now.
No news from Italy, again, yet. Perhaps around lunchtime?

It does seem like they missed the mark on how many tests would be available by the end of this week by about half.... At briefings on Capitol Hill and at the White House, administration officials -- including the Food and Drug Administration head and Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar -- laid out expectations for at least one million tests becoming available. "The estimates we're getting from industry right now -- by the end of this week, close to a million tests will be able to be performed," FDA chief Dr. Stephen Hahn said during a Monday briefing. On Thursday, Azar said he believed there would be a nationwide capacity to test 475,000 people by the end of the week. Azar said he hoped a private company, IDT, would ramp up to a million or a million and a half people by the end of next week. https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/05/politics/mike-pence-coronavirus-testing-trump/index.html

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

So,this stuff has been around for 6 weeks, give or take. What does that really mean, did people get sick and were wrongly diagnosed? Perhaps it's been around for years and years, and the technology to identify it hasn't been. This whole pandemic thing is beginning to sound somewhat fishy.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

wow, that's a pretty gross overshoot. I'm not sure it matters much, anymore - not from a controlling this standpoint, anyway. Just looking at the rest of the world, I'm not sure you can get ahead of it.
Another 800 new cases in Italy, bring them to 4,636.
Germany (670), France (577), and Spain (386) are still chugging right along as well. Switzerland, the UK, Netherlands, and Norway kinda blew up a little today. Little ole Swiss Miss is over 200 cases.
Greece, Iceland, Algeria, and Egypt all show double-digit growth, too. In Africa, Senegal, Cameroon, and Togo have their first cases.

I *think* I'm allowed to share this info, but if not, oh well....
my company has enacted all sorts of travel restrictions. International travel is cancelled. Domestic travel is permitted, but only by vehicle, not air. Air travel can be possible, but requires SVP approval.
If we take a vacation internationally, we may have to self-quarantine for 14-days. Certain locations have been instructed to cancel any/all visitations by vendors/clients.
