627 deaths in Italy in the last 24 hours; over 4,000 total for them alone, now. 6,000 new cases there. The US is over 200. Spain is up to 1,000 deaths and 20,000 cases almost 3,000 new cases in Germany. Bulgaria has authorized its military to use force to stop the movement of people and cars. Our border with Mexico is closed to all non-essential movement. New York state has over 7,000 cases. Religious pilgrims in Indonesia are refusing to obey government direction to stay home and pray; thousands of Muslims travelling to South Sulawesi for a mass gathering despite the cancellation of the event. The rate at which this is growing is alarming, and astounding. China's record for most cases in a single day was just over 15,000. We surpass that daily by lunchtime and are pretty much at the point were 25,000 new cases per day is the new average to be expected. We are at 265,000 cases globally right now; I expect that we will finish the day right around or just over 270,000. We were at 244,000 when I went to bed at 0130. I expect that we will top 300,000 by the end of day tomorrow, and I am still predicting a Half Million by Wednesday.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Ditto. Didn't care for him one way or another before this, but he's nailing it on his response with this.

Get her an e-reader, or a tablet.
She can get a ton of books from every library I wish. I have suggested that, but to no avail. My mom is 87, and can barely handle the TV remote. I think my dog has more tech savvy than she does. lol

Serious question, because I honestly don't know.
How many test kits can they produce a day? How many tests can they process a day? Which 'They'? Either way, I don't know the answer. Producing (functional) kits doesn't seem to be the issue. Bandwidth at labs to process them seems to be the bottleneck. However, South Korea has found a way to get it done. I do not know the specifics of How they are able to, but they simply are. They have done well over a half million tests. They contact-traced *everyone* from their first cases and tracked down everything. As a result, while we're hitting 5,000 new cases each day now, they are cruising along at under 100 new cases per day. You replied as if I had an agenda to my questions, when I clearly stated it was an honest question. We keep hearing we can't test because we don't have enough test kits now for how many weeks, which lead me to honestly wonder how many can they produce a day? How long will it take to produce enough that testing can be done on a less selective basis? I thought they were legitimate questions. I will excuse myself form the discussion, have a nice day.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

That wasn't the intended tone of my response. The "Which 'They'?" was an honest question - I wasn't sure if you meant our capacity or South Korea's. I don't think the rest of my response could be misconstrued as such, and I thought it was pretty straighforward. There was no ill intent in anything I wrote.

I think his response had more to do with the fact there are different companies that manufacture the masks. Kimberly Clark, 3M, Foss, Alpha Pro, Makerite and others. So the question of who they are is a logical one. I didn't even list companies in China and Taiwan.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Yeah, it was NOT meant to be any sort of nefarious post in any way. I apologize for any unintended tone in there. I simply didn't know which 'they' he meant. In any case, regardless of which, I simply don't know what their capacities are except that up until now, the capacity in Ohio was only about 500 per day.
I do not know how South Korea is managing to test the numbers they are, but doing so has allowed them to get a handle on this in a way the US and Europe could only dream about right now. I cannot help but think that whatever it is South Korea is doing to be successful, we need to have people talking to them about flat out copying them.

I don't know if DeWine is motivated by the opportunity for political gain or if is just a gifted leader in a time of crisis, but this guy is taking strong action and is showing others what true leadership looks like!

Ohio has been on the forefront of this fight, and it's awesome to see. Here in Illinois we are a few minutes away from the official announcement of a shelter in place. Not sure if it's gonna be full-blown like San Francisco, or a majority of workforce like NYC. I hope everyone is safe, and stocked with food and supplies. We will 100% get through this if people follow the directions given to them, the numbers are getting bad, but it looks like China might finally be on the other side of this thing as they have 2 straight days of no new local cases. Hang in there everyone

From the Beginning of December until March 8, there were 100,000 cases in the world.
From March 8 to March 18 there were another 100,000 cases
We are expecting the next batch of 100,000 by March 22.
By March 24, we will be talking about 100,000 cases per day.

And the worst part is, that much is pretty much already written in stone because it has already happened; we're just not seeing it in the reported cases numbers, yet. p.s. I think we will top off that next 100k a day early. We will be at 270k by the end of today, most likely. I do not think an increase of 30k is out of the question for tomorrow. That said, the 22nd is all but a guaranteed date at this point.

But the line on the scanner seemed really weird. Various police agency's to manage crowds and deter civil disobedience. didn't see anything on the news-busy with other stuff-but I am going out after dinner and in the morning to replenish and update supplies

By March 24, we will be talking about 100,000 cases per day. Worldwide, if it's less than 35 million cases by the end of next month, don't be alarmed. Because it seems people think a percentage of the population is already contagious and not symptomatic, even 1 % of a 4 billion worldwide population, is 40 million, so, How many people get the flu each year, and this thing is at "least" as contagious as the flu, we're told. I don't know anybody who doesn't get the flu, about one time, every year.

This will free up resources to make sure people don't act like animals at Walmart, Target, etc. I've already been embarrassed at this country by the way people acted a week ago. Stores are not closing. There is no reason to panic buy and hoard. Even in the event of a shelter in place (which for Illinois, goes into effect at 5pm tomorrow) you can still go to the store. The stupidity needs to stop.

This is really cool of the Giants, as well. Giants fund childcare program for emergency responders in New Jersey - ProFootballTalk https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20...-in-new-jersey/Emergency response personnel are being called into action around the country to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak and that often creates childcare needs that can be more difficult with many schools closed. The Giants hope to make that aspect of life a little easier. They are funding a childcare program that will be free for emergency response personnel at the Meadowlands YMCA in New Jersey. “Our staff is well-organized and well-trained to manage in this situation and is complying with the State and County Departments of Health’s standards in their health safety protocols,” Meadowlands YMCA president and CEO David Kisselback said in a statement, via NJ.com. “While we are cognizant of the CDC and other guidelines being issued to limit social gatherings, we also are committed to our mission of supporting the community, and our daycare program, food distribution programs, blood drives and education support programming are all being administered with the greatest of care.” The program can account for up to 42 children a day and the Giants have currently pledged funding for the next 10 weeks.

Good thing I just got my hair cut yesterday! Time to order some clippers on Amazon.
So, it looks like we will basically never know exactly how many people will have this. We can assume, going forward at least in Ohio, that the only confirmed cases are likely to be hospitalized cases or the relatively few that are bad enough with symptoms to get a doctors note to receive a drive-thru test, but not bad enough to hospitalize.
I don't even understand why the testing is all that important. Do we need testing to confirm a person gasping for air is infected? Or, ok, great, I don't have it now. Next week is a different matter. People should already be keeping space. Pick and choose when you go out. If you think you have it, guess what, you probably do. Stay home and away from family members. Call your Dr. and let them tell you your next step. This was unleashed by China. They need to pay. Why test ???
The most dangerous individual as it relates to covid 19...the individual who does not believe he or she is infectedand/or does not show any signs of being infected or contagious...and THAT INDIVIDUAL IS NOT TESTED and acts as if they cannot spread the virus.
We need to know where we stand concerning those who are infected and to quarantine everyone who is positive for convid-19, regardless if they show symptoms or not.
The sad part is there are not enough tests to check everyone. I don't disagree, but you are missing my point. So a person tests negative, great. That could change tomorrow. We should be in isolation anyway. Steps I would take would be to designated days people could get out to shop. People born in Jan. and Feb. get to go out for supplies om Monday. March and April, on Tuesday, etc. Cut workforce in half. Half the employees work Mon., Wed, and Fri. The other Tue, Thurs, and Sat.. Those are non critical jobs. Critical stays as is.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Critical jobs are already doing this. My doctor friends are generally being divided into teams. 3 teams running the hospital on set shifts. Members of different teams are not allowed to have any contact with members of different teams inside or outside of work. There is a real risk that entire hospital departments get shut down in the virus spreads through one. Need to mitigate that as much as possible.

If Society and the economy doesn't resume by Memorial day, May 25th, about 60 days from now.
I mean, where is the tipping point on societal loss.
Dang the torpedoes!
Sad part is, I've said before, the dregs of society are most prepared for a total meltdown, While everyone else is ramping up, they're already day to day.

With ample testing, you could clear people to be out while telling others to stay home.
Yes, everyone should be isolating, but until it is a forced, mandated quarantine, it is still optional and Humans Are Stupid. Identifying which oh them is infected adds urgency and knowledge to the request that they stay home.

Short of treatments becoming available, I think only the most optimistic models have us peaking by end of May. An unchecked exponential propagation would have us hitting 'herd immunity' by then, but the down side of flattening the curve is that it extends the timeline.

Was on drudge report yesterday Article in Washington examiner
Breaking: Trump eyes two-week quarantine, only drug and grocery stores open by Paul Bedard | March 20, 2020 07:31 PM Print this article
President Trump, moving with haste to slow the spread of the coronavirus, is preparing a plan to mobilize the National Guard to help enforce a two-week quarantine of the public if his tough-love efforts so far fail.
The unprecedented action would require everyone to “stay at home,” according to a source knowledgeable of the evolving plan.
The effort, which is still being mulled and wouldn’t be announced until early next week if needed, would urge that all businesses, except grocery stores and pharmacies, be closed.
It comes on the heels of other insider reports that the president is considering grounding all U.S. passenger flights to force a halt in people interacting and moving around the country.
Senior officials have said that dozens of radical ideas are being considered and that the president and his virus task force are moving quickly to protect the nation.
Trump has praised the public for following the rules he has put in place, but the new plans are an acknowledgment that many people are not taking the warnings seriously.
In some areas, the National Guard has already been called out to enforce “stay in place” orders, a model of what Trump is considering.
In Washington, D.C., the Guard has been activated. The city on Friday extended school closings until the end of April.
Wisconsin has also activated the Guard, and it is in use in Florida, New Jersey, and Arizona.
In California, Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a statewide order for all residents to stay at home until further notice. He has also put the National Guard on notice.
Illinois did the same, and there are also parts of New York on shutdown.
The federal government has been reluctant to order a “stay in place” order. But officials have said that the administration has been briefing Congress, states, and industry leaders about a potential shutdown that could start next week and after the president taps the Stafford Act that some say allows a national quarantine.
The goal, said officials, is to stop the spread of the virus and potential deaths.
The unknown: The administration hopes that the number of cases of the coronavirus does not surge too much.
A knowledgeable source said that Department of Homeland Security officials are telling states that it is ready to mobilize the National Guard and dispatch them with U.S. military and first responders.
The goal is to have them dispatched before any call for a national quarantine. The reason: Stop looters and other violence.
They will announce this as soon as they have troops in place to help prevent looters and rioters and will announce before the end of the weekend.

j/c China is sending medical experts and supplies to help Italy fight coronavirus https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/03/coronavirus-covid-19-italy-china-supplies/On a personal note. My daughter and her family informed me last night that my wife and I, "Didn't need to go anywhere". My son in law is in the petroleum industry and must work outside the home. My granddaughter's college is closed and she is home. They've told us to just make a list of anything we need and they will bring the supplies to our door. Having such a support system in times like these is a wonderful thing.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I agree. The problem is testing 300 million people.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Cut workforce in half. Half the employees work Mon., Wed, and Fri. The other Tue, Thurs, and Sat.. Those are non critical jobs. Critical stays as is.
Makes sense. Good to see you around my friend.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/03/c...0225513796.html 793 more deaths in Italy, 4,825 total. They will likely be hitting 1,000 per day very soon; perhaps by Monday. They have over 53,000 confirmed cases, now. Spain hit nearly 1,400 and Iran hit 1,500 total deaths. Switzerland added 1200 new cases. If just 3% of new cases require ICU, they will run out of ICU beds within a week. Iraq Shia defy curfews to commemorate revered imam Tens of thousands of Iraqi Shia turned out to commemorate a revered imam, defying curfews imposed to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
On foot, they streamed to the golden-domed mausoleum of Imam al-Kadhim in Baghdad, where authorities kept an outer gate open to allow pilgrims into the surrounding courtyard.
The inner shrine remained closed despite some pilgrims pressing authorities to let them in, a shrine official told AFP news agency.
