GC, considering music, I don't just hate the beatles, I think the music was lousy, struggle to find one of any of that stuff enjoyable to listen to, first, I can only tolerate some of their more obscure stuff, the less popular ones, so I checked into all Beatles songs and accepted; these were the ok ones,
Here comes the sun Come together Can't buy me love Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Revolution All my loving,
yet, in all these years, I don't know any time, or anytime anyone would stop and pay attention because a loved Beatles song started to play.
Also I think, most people, if they had a choice, would listen to something else.
Maybe it is the repetitive flip flop, and not having a point or story to most of their music that helps to make me hate it.
So I’m a nurse as I’m sure those that frequent the board know. I’m also an artist. As many may also know. One of the ways I express myself creatively is by working music festivals in the summer months. I build eye candy art and do ambient lighting in the trees around the festival grounds. Sadly I don’t see festivals happening in 2020. So I’ve decided to utilize some of my festival lighting to bring color to my neighborhood. Maybe bringing a smile or moment of visual/mental relief to those that happen by.
So first I’ll add a song... this is the Yonder Mountain String Band. A band I’ve worked closely with for the past 9 years bringing my art to their big yearly festival.
Yesterday I dragged some of my lights out and did this to my back yard. I figure every couple of days I’ll change the colors.
The Irish People have been subjugated for the past 800 years. Every disease du jour was seen as a sign from God that the English were rightous in their quest to stamp out the Gaelic culture.Covid-19 is nothing new, hell TB nearly wiped out the country. Van Morrison nailed social distancing some time ago with this song [/url]
Sing, Be, Live, See. This dark stormy hour, The wind, it stirs. The scorched earth Cries out in vain: O war and power, You blind and blur, The torn heart Cries out in pain. But music and singing Have been my refuge, And music and singing Shall be my light. A light of song Shining Strong: Allelulia! Through darkness, pain, and strife, I'll Sing, Be, Live, See... Peace.
You seemingly have a fascination w/making people feel bad about themselves and the world they live in.
Huh? How am I trying to make people feel bad about the world they live in right now?
Each and every one of these lines speaks to me about the current pandemic.
Let me break down my lyrical interpretation due to the current events
Quote:
Sing, Be, Live, See.
Due to the current crisis, I know it's hard to sing, enjoy the moment, try to continue to live your life as you usually do, and try to see the good.
Spoiler Alert: My wife and I were vacationing in Orlando, Florida when everything went to crap. We knew the potential risks of potentially traveling during this time period; someone close to me in my life is an infectious disease doc and we consulted with them before we went on our trip.
So don't tell me I'm being "political" when I tell you how hard it was to try and enjoy what was supposed to be a fun early wedding anniversary trip when everything was starting to say how the world was going to crap in a pandemic.
Hope you feel good about yourself now without seeking to understand why I posted this beautiful choral piece.
Anyway, back to the lyrical breakdown.
Quote:
This dark stormy hour, The wind, it stirs.
Things feel dark now, don't they? People are passing away, families are in agony, and it's sort of hard to see the light at times through this storm. Yet, the wind continues to push the events of this pandemic around.
Quote:
The scorched earth Cries out in vain: O war and power,
Is a pandemic not a war? We have people dying while we collectively try to stop the spread through hospital work, designing treatments that help individuals, and fight by staying at home to limit social interaction.
Is the world not scorched at the moment? Our daily lives have radically changed. People are currently crying out in emotion in various ways because of this crisis.
Quote:
You blind and blur, The torn heart Cries out in pain.
See above. Humans are going through this very thing because of a single piece of matter that's tinier than any single pixel on the very screen you look at.
Quote:
But music and singing Have been my refuge, And music and singing Shall be my light. Shining Strong: Allelulia!
Is this very thread not about music that provides refuge? I've been diving into tons of music from different genres for hope and comfort. This beautiful choral piece just happens to be one of many.
Quote:
Through darkness, pain, and strife, I'll Sing, Be, Live, See... Peace.
I will find comfort in song and be at peace despite the war against a virus outside my door.
Quote:
I just don't understand why people want to pee on those who want to have hope or look for uplifting things.
I don't think your interpretation or that song is "uplifting." The name of the thread is Songs of hope. "Songs that uplift."
Whatever Rocket. You keep feeding that need that you have to bring others down. Hopefully, there will come a day when you find out that bringing others down doesn't make you soar. You can have the last word. I'm out.
And for the ultimate hypocrisy you posted Imagine.
In Imagine there's a set of lyrics that states:
Quote:
Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us, only sky
and
Quote:
Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion, too
So it's okay for you to post a song that speaks negatively of religion, which is something that many are turning to right now, yet it's not okay for me to post a song filled in symbolism and description?
How is it uplifting to tell people "hey, your version of the afterlife is wrong and all religion is bad?"
I go out into the community for work. I wear an N95, a button up lab coat/shirt, and goggles. When I come home I strip in the garage and shower. Then I give thanks for being home. Home is safe. Home is a sanctuary.
“That sweet home waiting for me at the end of the day.”
You’d know better than I. I can’t speak to it except to say she’s a sweet girl. Her name is Allie Krall. Super talented player. All the guys in the band are pretty down to earth humble folks. This is their new mandolin player Nick Piccininni. I was really looking forward to seeing him play this summer. Maybe get a chance to cross paths with him. Sadly it’ll likely have to wait until summer 2021.
I hope this brings all of you hope and a bit of an uplift. Some of the best voices representing multiple generations in voice and instrument bring a great rendition.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
I think I posted in this thread, if not this one, a different one about my worries, my fears, etc. How I can't sleep, etc. I don't, and never have had, a guaranteed income.
It's real, folks, for me anyway. Here recently, last 3 days, I have woken up way too early for me. Thoughts of doom going through my head as I lay in bed. Financially. And of course, just recently I've gotten the quarterly statements on our retirement, and investments, and my daughter's 529k. And I lay there in bed, thinking "Arch, at this point in time, after 17 years of doing what you do, you haven't expanded your knowledge/education 1 bit, other than learning more about your business. When you fail, what will you do?"
And I get way depressed, wondering what I'm gonna do. People are relying on me. (including the state and federal gov't. Cool, I can delay my quarterly payments til July - big deal, they'll just need twice as much then, property tax, etc.)
And as a self employed person, I don't qualify for jack at this time. And as a few jobs trickle in here and there, I realize that any benefit I may have qualified for would be off set by what I earned in any given week.
And yet, this song comes to mind quite often:
I am .......well, let's just say 1 poster on here even offered to send me a check. I have no idea how much, or how it would be repaid, if it needed to be repaid, etc. I declined, because 1 way or another, I and my family will make it.
Disturbed the sound of silence Sound of Silence In my opinion this is a powerful rendition of the Simon and Garfunkel song. It gets to me.
The Constitution shall never be construe to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms. – Samuel Adams
When I saw the listing for this video a few months ago, on YouTube, I thought, "Well, that's an odd choice for them to cover". It totally works though.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
Hopeful? I dunno .... but the cause is definitely a hopeful and uplifting one.
So .... what do you get when you put Five Finger Death Punch together with Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Brian May, and Brantley Gilbert?
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
I created a "UB40" channel on Pandora that I listen to regularly and it plays this and several other songs in this thread all the time. It's all happy, good-for-the-heart kinda music.
Which takes me to:
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
Disturbed the sound of silence Sound of Silence In my opinion this is a powerful rendition of the Simon and Garfunkel song. It gets to me.
I really liked Simon and Garfunkel's version, UNTIL I heard Disturbed. It's much more powerful - guttural, really.
I also prefer their official video of it, but I know it's hard to replicate that in a live performance.
Sorry, nothing against Disturbed, but the masters are the masters for a reason. You can feel the heart and emotion behind Art’s vocal in this live performance no problem at all.
