But Trump and Fox News have said over and over again, it's a Democratic Hoax....

I don't know if this man could have been saved by quicker/Sooner action on the part of Trump. But anyone with a brain would know that his chances may have been better.

My high school art teacher’s husband got sick with COVID symptoms last week. He went to the hospital and was sent home without being tested. He’s now back at the hospital and on a ventilator with a COVID diagnosis. She can’t be at his side as he fights for his life. It’s profoundly tragic.

I’m about to go make my client rounds. Pray for me and all of my peers fighting this battle to keep those in our communities safe, comfortable, and at peace in these times.

And some people think it's funny that in a time such as this anyone should be acting the way he does and that it's somehow funny.

This is a time for empathy not playing some political comedy routine to our nation.

Disgusting.

I'm sorry to hear that about your friend. While other posters think Trump playing games in the media is funny.

I think we can leave politics out of the responses to personal losses of friends and family. We are all well aware of the political actions and none of that is more important than our support for each other in a time of loss. Just saying.

Fact check: Trump falsely denies saying two things he said last week

On two occasions during Sunday's coronavirus briefing, President Donald Trump falsely denied he had said words he had said publicly last week.
When PBS's Yamiche Alcindor noted that the President had said he did not believe that governors actually need all the equipment they claimed they did, Trump said, "I didn't say that" — even though he said precisely that on Fox News on Thursday.

Later, when CNN White House Correspondent Jeremy Diamond noted that Trump had said he wanted governors to be "appreciative" of him, and that "if they don't treat you right, I don't call," Trump said, "But I didn't say that" — even though he said precisely that at the Friday briefing.
Here's a closer look.

What Trump said about governors and equipment

Trump falsely denied that he claimed governors from certain states are asking for equipment they don't need. At Sunday's briefing, Alcindor, Newshour's White House Correspondent, asked the President whether he felt his comments and belief "that some of the equipment that governors are requesting they don't actually need" would have an impact on the federal distribution of ventilators and other medical resources. As Alcindor attempted to finish her question, the President interjected, "I didn't say that," before going on to say it wouldn't have an impact.

Facts First: He did say that. On March 26 during a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity, Trump said, "a lot of equipment's being asked for that I don't think they'll need" specifically in reference to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and following a tirade against Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Trump later said he felt Cuomo was requesting an unnecessary number of ventilators. "I have a feeling that a lot of the numbers that are being said in some areas are just bigger than they are going to be," Trump said. "I don't believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators."

When Alcindor noted that she was quoting from the President's interview with Hannity, Trump said: "Take a look at my interview. What I want to do is if there is something wrong, we have to get to the bottom of it."
What Trump said about his dealings with governors

CNN's Jeremy Diamond began a question to Trump as follows: "I'd also like to ask you about some comments you made on Friday. You were talking about governors of different states and you said, 'I want them to be appreciative.' You also said, 'if they don't treat you right, I don't call.'" After Diamond said the words "if they don't treat you right," Trump said, "But I didn't say that." When Diamond finished the sentence, Trump said "I didn't say that" once more.

Facts First: Trump did say what he claimed he didn't. As Diamond told Trump, Diamond was reading direct quotes from Trump's Friday briefing. Trump went on to argue Sunday that he was being taken out of context, noting that on Friday he had also said of his "I want them to be appreciative" comment, that he was talking about people other than himself.

Trump had said Friday: "I'm not talking about me. I'm talking about Mike Pence, the task force; I'm talking about FEMA, the Army Corps of Engineers." Trump is within his rights to urge media outlets to play the full clip, but those additional comments do not change the fact that he had said exactly what Diamond said he did.

Trump also said Sunday: "I don't call the governor of Washington now, but Mike Pence calls, and the head of FEMA calls; I don't stop them. Did I ever ask you to do anything negative, Mike, to Washington?" We don't know for sure what Trump might have told Pence in private, but Trump explicitly said Friday that he had indeed tried to get Pence not to call the governors of Washington and Michigan. Trump said Friday: "He calls all the governors. I tell him — I mean, I'm a different type of person — I say, 'Mike, don't call the governor of Washington. You're wasting your time with him. Don't call the woman in Michigan.'" When a reporter pressed Trump on Friday about whether he really doesn't want Pence to call the governor of Washington, Trump confirmed — but said that Pence, a "different type of person," will "call quietly anyway."

Ammunition

Trump also repeated an exaggeration that he's made in the past on a topic unrelated to the pandemic.

Trump said, "I'll never forget the day when a general came and said, 'Sir' -- my first week in office -- 'we have no ammunition.' " He repeated this claim later in the briefing without citing the general, claiming that the US had "no ammunition" before he had taken action.
Facts First: Trump was exaggerating. We don't know what a general might have told him in private, but it's not true that the US had "no ammunition" at the beginning of his presidency. Rather, according to the public comments of military leaders, there was a shortfall in certain kinds of munitions, particularly precision-guided bombs, late in the Obama presidency and early in the Trump presidency.

Over 1,200 people attend Louisiana church service, defying coronavirus ban: "We will continue"

More than 1,200 people attended services at a Louisiana church, again defying the governor's coronavirus ban against more than 50 people gathering. Tony Spell has continued to hold services all month at Life Tabernacle Church in Baton Rouge – even as the coronavirus spreads throughout the United States.

More than 143,500 people have tested positive in the U.S. and as of Monday morning, the nation's death toll was over 2,500. However, the devastating nature of the virus has not dissuaded Spell from holding services on Sunday, despite experts saying social distancing could help slow down the spread of COVID-19 infections.

Spell told CBS News that 1,265 people went to his church on Sunday and defended their assembly. "We have a constitutional right to congregate," Spell said in an email on Monday. "We will continue."

He said they disinfect the venue daily and even boasted that it's "cleaner" than open gas stations, Walmart and Sam's Club. Spell offered a "no comment" when asked whether his church was still collecting donations.

Earlier this month, after a weekday service, he caught criticism for his controversial remarks when he told CBS affiliate WAFB that the coronavirus was "not a concern."

"The virus, we believe, is politically motivated," Spell told WAFB. "We hold our religious rights dear and we are going to assemble no matter what someone says."

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards banned any gatherings of more than 50 people to reduce the risk of spreading the virus — a restriction that applies to religious congregations. CBS News reached out to the governor's office for a comment on the church gatherings, but did not immediately hear back.

Meanwhile, a Florida church was jammed with worshippers despite a local "safer-at-home" order designed to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released updated guidelines earlier this month that recommended against "large events and mass gatherings" that can contribute the spread of COVID-19. President Trump has extended CDC's social distancing guidelines until April 30.

Florida church jammed for Sunday service despite pandemic

A Florida church was packed with worshippers Sunday despite a local "safer-at-home" order designed to help curb the spread of COVID-19, reports CBS Tampa affiliate WTSP-TV. A live-stream of the service at The River at Tampa Bay Church showed its crowded main sanctuary.

WTSP says the sheriff told church leaders they were in direct violation of the order, which was issued by Hillsborough County officials and went into effect Friday. It requires that businesses and organizations considered essential abide by social distancing guidelines and keep people six feet away from each other or shut down.

Attorneys for local officials and the church were working to resolve things as quickly as possible, WTSP reported.

The national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people stay six feet apart and not gather in groups of 50 or more, according to WTSP.

In a statement posted earlier this month on Facebook and on its website, the church explained why it's keeping its doors open when so many other places across the state and nation are closing.

The statement read in part, "In a time of national crisis, we expect certain institutions to be open and certain people to be on duty. We expect hospitals to have their doors open 24/7 to receive and treat patients. We expect our police and firefighters to be ready and available to rescue and to help and to keep the peace. The Church is another one of those essential services. It is a place where people turn for help and for comfort in a climate of fear and uncertainty.

"Therefore, we feel that it would be wrong for us to close our doors on them, at this time, or any time. In a time of crisis, people are fearful and in need of comfort and community, more than ever before."

You can lead a horse into thinking we only have 15 cases of the virus and that number will be going down. But then that would make you the horses ass.

Florida megachurch pastor arrested for refusing to call off services

Florida's Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister issued a warrant for the arrest of megachurch pastor Rodney Howard-Browne on Monday after he refused to cancel his packed services and obey coronavirus social distancing orders.

The big picture: With at least 5,000 cases and 60 deaths as of Monday morning, Florida is a growing epicenter for the coronavirus outbreak. Gov. Ron DeSantis has declined to issue a statewide stay-at-home order, but a Hillsborough County order that took effect last week prohibits gatherings of more than 10 people.

Howard-Browne, an evangelical leader who has been hosted by the Trump White House, continued to hold two crowded services at The River at Tampa Bay Church on Sunday despite warnings from Chronister's office, the Tampa Bay Times notes.

He mocked those who were scared of the coronavirus as "pansies" last week and said his church "will never close," the New York Post reports.
Howard-Browne was arrested on charges of unlawful assembly and violation of public health emergency rules.

What they're saying: "His reckless disregard for human life put hundreds of people in his congregation at risk, and thousands of residents who may interact with them this week, in danger," Chronister said at a press conference on Monday.

I can hear the cries from the evangelical crowd now.

Hopefully Falwell Jr. will be next along with that lunatic Tony Spell from Louisiana.

I'm not sure if this is good or bad. I mean obviously they should cancel live in-church services but is this going to be a rallying call for others to act out against the stay at home orders because of religious freedoms? You know how they get when they think their freedoms are being trampled. Gay marriage won't hold a candle to the government banning religious gatherings if this sets off holy meltdown mode.

I don't know whether the end result will be good or bad. What I do know is that they are trying to stop the spread of the disease and then there are those that are not. If things like these gatherings continue, you will never control the spread of it.

Well, I don't know if you would call me an evangelical, but I agree with him being arrested for not calling off services.

As a member of the consistory of our church, the 12 members voted 2 weeks ago to cancel all services for 3 weeks. I'm sure in the coming days, we will extend that as well. A point was brought up in our teleconference meeting back then that some people, especially the older crowd, would feel obligated to attend if we had services.

In most cases, one need only follow the money to get answers, and sadly, mega churches are a part of that thought. I'm guessing the pastor/s were separated from the congregation, too.

Falwell and Liberty? Dumb. And I have a cousin (son of my 1st cousin) that attends there. Just stupid to bring people in.

Most churches have done that Arch. It seems the only ones that are pushing this are the ones who want that collection plate passed IMHO. Last I heard, christians believe god is everywhere and praying works from home too.

You can ask the churches to close but you can't make them.

Most have wisely chosen to close.

The very First Amendment to our Constitution...

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I'm certainly not trying to make a general statement about the Christian community. By and large they have done a great job helping contain this pandemic as best they can. And I applaud those who are doing so. Your church certainly seems to fall into that category.

Unlike many people I see there are extremists on every side. Democrats, Republicans, atheists and evangelicals. Just like I think DeWine is doing a great job of handling the situation in Ohio. I may disagree with him on certain political policies he holds, yet I'm certainly willing to give him credit where I feel it's due.

Perhaps we need to rethink your Constitutional Right to free speech then.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

His speech isn't killing anyone, just making your head hurt.

"We are creating a stockpile," says NY Gov. Cuomo. "If you are not preparing for the apex and for the high point, you are missing the entire point of the operation. It is a fundamental blunder to only prepare for today. That's why, in some ways, we are where we are."

Send this as a memo to trump.

The Declaration of Independence states that everyone has certain “unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

I heard Cuomo say this and wondered if that means he's sitting on ventilators while people are dying. Sounds like he is sitting on supplies that hospitals need. I wish I had heard what led to this statement but I missed that.
