Nobody NEEDS to go to the GYM bro. But they have the right to. I don't need a bar to enjoy my beer. I do however have the right to see and talk to my friends at the bar. I have been socially distancing for over 5 damn years and it SUCKS.

Trust me I can see EVERYBODYS side in this and there are no winners. We all just want to survive and my problem is with those who either don't want me to, or don't care if I do survive.

Bro, my point is that when it comes to down to possibly jeopardizing another person's safety.......what I want means very little. I am saying that we should make some sacrifices in regards to our own personal wants and desires in order to help the safety of others.

The decisions were not about being Nazis. They were made to help protect the general population. Just like not going down a one-way street. One could say that their rights are being violated because they could get to their destination more quickly if they went down that street. They might say that hardly anyone travels that street and they should have the right to have the freedom to use it. However, they might harm other people. The same thing can be said for this virus.

Bro, we don't have all the answers yet. It might not be that bad. It might be bad. Who knows? But, a little self-discipline and a lot less selfishness would probably go a long way in regards to the greater good of "all," rather than just "me."

Pretty sick of the "me" people.

When this whole thing started I agreed with you way more than them. However after watching time, after time, after time, after time, or folks who are just way to stupid and ignorant to social distance, wear a mask, stop hanging out in shoulder to shoulder large crowds, playing basketball, not washing or sanitizing, licking their fingers then grabbing the gas pump handle, etc, etc, etc, I lean way further to their side now. I have watched people takes babies to get groceries with them, while the babies licked and chewed on the buggy handles..... WTF is wrong with these brain dead donkeys.

I'm less in the camp of stay home, stay safe and more in the camp of stay safe and get the popcorn because the idiots are going to weed themselves out and you get a front row seat. Guys like Diam are butthurt and can't grasp that we don't want to see society hurt OR dumb people die... We too want things to be as close to normal as possible, just with precautions. I've never seen a minimum wage job worth dying over, no job really other than maybe a job saving lives.

I'm personally happy things are opening up again around here. The restaurant/bar that I live above is reopen again, I think for the first time today or yesterday.

A lot of people are just plain sick of the lockdown. If you are still afraid, stay home, if you can afford to. But some of us have had enough of it, especially the media hysteria surrounding it and we want to get back to life as best we can.

...Let's not forget though, if it gets really bad again we might have to do a relockdown. Ack!

We do need to maintain some common sense restrictions.

Keep restaurants at 50% capacity to provide space.

Limit shoppers based on square footage of floor space.

Set directional arrows to direct traffic on shopping aisles so people don't go face to face.

Require the use of facemasks in food stores.

Require shields between customers and the shopper. I see more and more plastic shields set up between shoppers and the cashier.

Offices have to reconfigure. Keep people working from the home when possible. They all have a job to fulfill. The company will know if they are doing the job or not.

On the shop floor, keep people apart even if you have to cut production 40%. Keep paying everybody for 40 hours even if they are only working 25 hours. The Government can help support the business to do this. It's easier to help a million business than it is to help 40 million workers.

As people, we need to wear masks, especially if you are coughing or sneezing.

As citizens, we need to follow the rules.

As people, don't pick up cans at the store to read the label and put it back. Take the attitude that if I touch it, I bought it.

We are in this together, learn how to be a concerned, serious citizen and not a me first person.

All stores from this point forward need to have a standing policy that if at any time the management see's a run on a product like toilet paper or whatever, get on the store intercom and say we are now limiting the sale of that product, even if you are in line to checkout. It starts now. As citizens, we don't need to get all bunched up and throw a fit if that happens. Act right!

On the other hand, we have to open things up. We have to get back to work. We can't just shut down the economy and live in a rabbit hole for as long as it takes because like it or not, nothing says we will find a vaccine, or it could take years. There has been promising news, but sometimes that positive news is released to help the national psyche. You know, help boost morale. We did that all the time under FDR during WWII, even when maybe the message was stretched a good deal. I get it. People need that. Gloom and Doom wears on a population.

We can manage this, but it has to be managed because we are still at risk. We just need to find the balance point. It isn't all or nothing, either way.

Bro ... i am not shy and let them know but hre’s the thing .. I’ve thought about what a proper response would be and for me that started with trying to educate the selfish a-hole that won’t wear a mask or follow social distancing guidelines ...

What i may start doing is printing out one off the studies that shows what the odds are of transmission based on who has a mask on ... they show IF the person with the disease has a mask on it greatly reduces the odds of it spreading ... then ask them how they know if they have it or not ....

Thats the best solution I can come up with ... prolly will fall upon deaf ears but at leas i tried ...

I see a lot fear on this thread. I am not saying we shouldn't be cautious about COVID 19, but being cautious and being fearful are two completely different things.

The CDC says your chances of catching it off surfaces is almost nil. the virus has to spread by being breathed into lungs via the nose or mouth.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/heal...ces/5235317002/

Furthermore, the Mayo Clinic says wearing a cloth mask "could help" someone who has it not spread it. It doesn't say it will, it just says it could help. the mask itself won't protect you from catching COVID 19

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/coronavirus-mask/art-20485449

Remember what Abraham Lincoln said (The below quote is summed from a much longer letter he wrote)

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves"

To be frank its terrifying that so many people are willing to give up all their essential liberties and allow government to dictate their lives to them over a virus. They are perfectly content to be ordered into their homes, have their jobs and income taken away, and told to shelter in place while their freedom goes right down the drain.

We can fight this virus without destroying our way of life and our Constitution, and you don't do that with oppressive lock down and quarantine orders.

We can very easily see this country destroyed by our own hands out of fear by setting up a situation for a Tyrant to take over and suspend our Congress and Court system by creating conditions of fear and promises of protecting us.

We really need to come to our senses about these issues. You have police arresting people and imprisoning them for violating "social distancing" there is no such law on the books anywhere that has been passed by any state or federal legislature saying they can do this...why are we not sticking up for our neighbors who are being oppressed by these illegal orders?

We can handle this pandemic in a "legal and moral way" though our elected representatives with a court system to oversee and ensure they don't abuse our rights.

That is not unreasonable. Why have an elected government if one or two people can dictate everything, whats the point?

Let over 1000 people a day die while politicians fight. Perfect. I hope when this is all over you look back and feel just an ounce of shame for all of the American deaths your ideas are promoting.

The devil is in the details (as we can see with a judge opening gyms despite a health order), but these are all temporary. It's an extraordinary circumstance that requires extraordinary measures. Unless, of course, you're fine with a lot of people dying needlessly.

This will pass and things will go back to normal. They already are.

Obviously not. But it will for people that didn't die because of the measures that were taken.

Spot on. Its not a personal decision when you're endangering others.

Otherwise, it would your personal decision to not have car insurance on your vehicle in order to legally drive it.

You can make the decision to not have insurance, but you will face the penalty if you are caught. Same idea here. Go out, open up your business. But don't complain that your caught and fined.

I have a completely off the wall question.

A local bank, that is not open to walk in traffic - it's drive thru only - well, if you go to the drive thru when no other cars are in front of you, pull up, the teller puts a mask on. It's a drive thru. There is literally NO chance of any contact whatsoever. Bullet proof glass is, I'm assuming, virus proof as well. Why do they do that?

Is it just me, or are the people who would normally rail about how the lower and middle class are constantly getting screwed in this country, are now showing zero sympathy, empathy, or care about the millions of lower and middle class people getting hammered by these shutdowns?

Not just that, but the lead in is almost always an insult of some kind. They're Trumpians, too stupid to do what's in their own best interests, selfish, serving "corporate masters", they need to die of, they shouldn't be allowed to get treatment if their dumbasses contract it...

It just seems an oddly callous way of viewing the same people they would normally claim have sympathy for on any other topic. superconfused

Purely for image. While on patrol I've noticed a lot of our local reporters flying solo when they normally would have a cameraman with them. They are literally the only person standing there but they put the mask on for their live spot.

It seems silly, but I don't mind it actually. Providing that kind of imagery socially I think is much more effective at gaining voluntary compliance, which is far more effective, than arbitrarily suspending peoples Rights.

I rail for the working class all the time and I think once again they get the short end of the stick while the rich get handouts in the millions and billions. Meanwhile, they keep the working class broke and desperate to the point that they will fight for the opportunity to risk their health to get back to work while the crap that started all of this is still going pretty much unchecked. I will never be with the 'sacrifice grandma' crowd and I'm not with the 'to scared to function' crowd, but I am part of the 'lets just be as smart and save as many lives as we can' crowd. I don't think going to bars, church, and beaches is worth the cost of lives it is going to cost at this point. But people not starving or becoming homeless because republicans want the machine going IS important enough to get back to work.

That's pretty dramatic. I almost thought one of my teenage daughters came up with that.

Again, COVID 19 is not a threat to the overwhelming majority of people. That's just purely a fact. This doesn't mean that the tiny fraction of people have no value. I said in the very beginning when we knew who the high risk patients were that everything we did in mitigation should be centered around them.

Those populations could have been protected without arbitrarily putting 40 million people out of work.

I understand what you're saying but if you take a step back, can see why one might read that and hear a tone of elitism in it?

Willing to risk their health? Who exactly? Again, the data is showing that the overwhelming majority of people won't be done in by the virus.

The virus is still running unchecked? That's the first I've heard of it. I guess that means all the experts who claim the numbers could be worse but mitigation has been working are liars? Or the people who think these lock downs should continue because they are working no longer have a clue.

By your own words, if this thing is really running unchecked, then clearly these restrictions don't matter anyway right?

Lastly, I say your post has an elitist flavor to it because the middle class aren't stupid. They aren't children that need to be looked after. The middle class fully understands the risks. Most professions out there that inherently pose a threat to health and safety are middle class jobs.

Yes, I'm elitist. lmao.

And yes, the working class will risk their health for peanuts while the real elitist like Trump's kids watch from the relative safety of private yachts and 5 star accomodations. When Jr. (dumbass Jr.) clocks in at the meat plant let me know.

Yes the virus is running unchecked. The only thing we have done is delay the spread, but now we choose to speed it up again because we have what? Found a vaccine? Found effective treatment? Know everything about it?... No, because we took care of the rich again and were basically told to pound salt when the working class needed a bailout. BACK TO WORK LITTLE PEOPLE! The masters need their cogs.

The restrictions did matter! They were working to slow this thing. But then Trump pulled his divide crap again and y'all started showing up with guns threatening people to let you have your way. And boy it sure starting to look like y'all gonna get just that. 100K and rising... 1918 taught y'all nothing because you either can't read or don't realize history is repeating itself. This virus kills. Kids are getting some weird ass disease from it now. The old and sick have become acceptable losses... and getting back to the beaches, bars, and cog positions is everything... wth?

Yes, I'm elitist.

Kinda funny seeing fat asses that never go out or to the beach or take a healthy hike are the ones complaining about being shut in now.

I just wonder if you ever considered how many corpses we would have without those stay at home orders? Nah, let's not consider what the body count would have been.

We are well past the body count of American soldiers killed in Vietnam and quickly approaching the amount of American soldiers killed in WW1.

Stating facts you don't like doesn't mean it's drama. It means they're fact you don't like so trying to label them in a negative manner is only playing to support your agenda. Sometimes reality bites.

Laws are NOT created by a single government official issuing a fiat that all shall comply or face punishment.. !!China!!

But, They use a soft voice, and a smile, (like talking to kindergartners), and Camera Shutters sound as they sign a bill with a fancy pen.

And Don't Overlook, that even if they appear to right any of the dictator type power grab,
Don't overlook that 7 weeks passed with the exhibition of ability to show they can do it, when they want to.

Even as some politicians will say, We're going to reign these guys in,
We're going to put a stop to this, We're on your side,

^ Those politicians were well in line, letting this all go on , for 7 weeks, doing nothing to stop it,
Watching, both sides, waiting, to see how the public would take it, seeing how much fuss wouldn't be put up,

Both sides of poliiticians were on the same side, against the people, for 7 weeks, to see how this shutdown experiment would go

But all of a sudden the "good guys" are going to show up and put a stop to the injustice?

Not so, the "good guys" took part in sitting and watching, seeing how the public deals with the Top Down government by edict:

I think they secretly went along for 7 weeks, well both sides, to see how much they could get away with.

( There was no Instant Backlash, politically speaking, remember that)

Ahh, we'll placate the freedom lovers by appearing to reign in these draconian policies and make everybody feel like freedom and liberty and Lee Greenwood songs,

But for 7 weeks, ehhh we all took real good to government induced lockdown,
Like A FROG IN A POT.
