Fried Spam and an over-easy egg on a toasted, buttered English muffin is way better than any kind of McMuffin you could get at McD's.

So, I just randomly had a video on YouTube suggested to me of a couple of guys that made a walnut & glass tensegrity end table with 100# test fishing line for the connectors.

I've now got an idea in my head of a tensegrity coffee table utilizing double centers that I think will be a LOT more resistant to being knocked over. If we get some decent weather here this week, I might get out in the shop and work on a small scale mockup.

My friend came over and we watched ufc.

Its so stupid that they make you buy a year subscription to espn+ before you can order ppv. As if it will have any sports on it this year.

I'm in full on nerd mode.

I found out there there are motion detector flood lights that you just screw into an existing flood light.

So I bought one. And am having fun playing with it.

But now I have discovered this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GK6LGCV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So I have ordered one of these. I was gonna buy separate cameras, but that has everything in one lightbulb. And all I have to do is screw it in.

Can it get any easier than that?

Gimme gimme.

I went to happy hour with my fellow.

We made plans to go to a Falcons game.

And he will wear his Chargers jersey and I will wear my Browns jersey.

And we will lololol at a Falcons game.

Catio progress photos. I still have to clear coat the shelves. Then wrap the center post in jute rope for scratching. Add latches to the door. Then add the roof. It’ll be clear plastic with an overhang for rain protection. I’ll finish up with more cedar trim pieces. Once it’s moved into place I’ll pair it to the window with a screened in ‘bridge’. Hope to have it ready to use by Sunday.

That's very cool!

I'm back to waiting for decent weather to get into the shop. Power tools and damp air in the 30s is never an enjoyable mix.

A new plasma cutter/stick mma/tig welder arrived today. I get to put in a 50A outlet for that this weekend and then my garage shop is ready to do some heavier lifting. smile

Nice tool haul. Plasma cutters are amazing. They make what I do with steel possible. So fast and clean. They can be a little finicky as the internal pieces wear out. Make sure you have replacement tips and cartridges. You’ll spend more time fighting it than it’s worth otherwise. Just change the tip when it acts up. We’ve made a few jigs for cutting circles and straight edges of different widths. Look online for pointers for such things.
Have fun.

I've learned, and enjoyed learning, a lot of trades. Love working with wood, building things from nothing. After about 7 years with a 3D printer, CAD design is something I've really had a good time with.

Cutting, welding, working with steel is next on my list. I admire the stuff you do, Portland... simply amazing.

FATE... if you’ve got CAD skills and like working with steel look into getting a plasma cutting table. We use to have to outsource the more meticulously cut stuff. Recently we helped fund a table for a buddy. He’s got similar skills as you and now he has a table in his garage. He does all of our complex cutting and any ‘production line/multiples of the same shape’ type of work. He’s making a nice side business of it too. Slowly finding other backyard builders, creators, and such to keep the table busy and cash flow coming in. It was an upfront cost but he’s already paid us back our investment and is making bill money on the side.
Something to consider.

So this came today.

It really was super easy to install and does all the things it says it will do.

Just download the app.
Sync the bulb to your wifi.
And screw it in a lightbulb socket.

If you don't have a lightbulb socket, they do provide the mount for that, but you will have to wire it yourself.
I installed it in a flood light socket. I'd think that is the best use for it since it is that shape/size. If you want something small and not noticeable then this is not the thing for you.

Later on I will try it at night and see how that goes.
This is very good for me since I have very few handyman skills. Much better security for my house.

Also, the video stores for 1 day on the free plan.
If you want it to store longer, their paid plans are very reasonable.

I did a self-haircut with the clippers a few days ago. It was decent enough that I may never go back to the barber, lol

I did the same. It’s not bad but it doesn’t look as good as my barber’s job. I’ll likely continue to do it for the foreseeable future though. Public safety over personal aesthetics.

I have it working at night now also. It records in night vision unless the sensor is activated, then the flood light comes on. The only complaint I have is its a bit slow to activate. The app is very configurable.

I'm gonna order two more.

My Mother in her 70's has discovered technology.

She now has a tablet.
And email.
And asked me the other day if I want to listen to her religious podcast.

I'm super glad this happened so she stays in the house and isn't bored enough to leave.

(She lives on Long Island. Which scares the crap out of me.)

We’re getting my mom a Samsung Galaxy 10. Her first smartphone. My sister has one so will be able to instruct her. It’ll be great as we’ll get to see each other when we talk. Only getting to see your mom in person once a year for a few days is the downfall of moving away from home.
Since my stepfather passed my mom has had enough to adjust to. To not be able to physically interact with her family has been really hard on her. I’m hoping this will lesson the blow.

I finished the catio a few days back. I’ve been letting the clear coats cure since the last cost went down on Wednesday. Today the weather is warm enough to open it up for the first time.

That is the photo that matters most. I mean we all know how cats are. You could go through the hassle of building that entire thing and the cats might be in the living room playing with the box your last Amazon order came in. wink

Agreed.

I made something 2 years ago for my cat. Nothing near like portland's, but - my cat hasn't used it. Not 1 time. Ever, except for the 1 time I picked him up and showed him how to use it.

I have a scratching post I made to place at a corner of the couch they decided to start using. Since I’ve put in in they’ve not used it once. But at least the couch has been spared.

Awesome job!

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."
