In early March, so few patients had been tested that public health officials didn’t yet know that people could spread the virus without showing symptoms, said Winslow.
“That was just not known at that point,” he said. Yes, it was.

With that out of the way, I think the cloth mask stuff is malarky and bad science. Yes, yes, I've seen the memes about peeing on someone's leg and all that....it still fails to address the fact that a cloth mask is insufficient for blocking slow moving tiny droplets that are inbound. If it is insufficient for that, how is it sufficient for stopping tiny droplets outbound that are being forcefully exhaled? Additionally, nobody is wearing their masks over their eyes.
Cloth masks and the entire craze is like using one of those little thin red rubber bands as a leg tourniquet. Yes, you can say it is doing something, but it really isn't preventing anything.

She's a complete quack.
There's a reason that video was relegated Bit Chute.
But take your vitamin C, D and a little zinc and you'll be fine!
This video is just the latest conspiracy theory filled video like Plandemic. That is what I wanted, some feedback. I wouldn't say she is a quack. She clearly has the credentials. I just don't know if the science backs her up on the immunity. It's hard to know what to believe. I have a cousin who works for the CDC. I may have to contact her. Peen do some more digging on her. She's an extremist with a political agenda for the Irish Freedom Party. Don't get duped because she has a PhD. Look in to Bit Chute. It's essentially far right, conspiracy theory video hosting site. Look into Computing Forever. Here's one of her medical papers that was retracted to due to "extreme flaws" in the research and methodology. https://retractionwatch.com/2017/08/15/p...eavy-criticism/Also, there are plenty blatant conspiracy theories and unsubstantiated claims in the video.

Here'a an article from Business Insider on the Dolores Cahill conspiracy video... Facebook and YouTube took 7 days to remove an hour-long viral video filled with COVID-19 conspiraciesMartin Coulter May 19, 2020, 3:51 AM A video filled with misleading claims about COVID-19 was watched close to a million times on Facebook and YouTube over the last week, prompting both firms to remove the clip. The hour-long video was watched more than 500,000 times across both platforms, after being uploaded by Dave Cullen, a right-wing vlogger and activist based in Ireland, best known for his "Computing Forever" YouTube channel, which he regularly uses to rail against political correctness, online censorship and "woke" politics. The video was shared across Cullen's own Facebook page, his YouTube channel, and shared again by Tiger Reborn, an Irish political activism group. These three versions of the video accrued close to a million views between them. All three have since been removed by Facebook and YouTube. In the 67-minute clip, Cullen and Prof Dolores Cahill, chairperson of the Irish Freedom Party, a fringe political outfit with ties to the alt right, make a series of inflammatory and unsubstantiated claims about COVID-19. Ireland started easing COVID-19 restrictions on Monday, following a strict two-week period of lockdown. The country has suffered around 25,000 confirmed cases and close to 1,500 deaths linked to the virus. While Cahill, a professor at University College Dublin, appears to have a credible background in virology and disease transmission, which she details extensively in the clip's opening 10 minutes, she only mentions her political affiliations in the closing five minutes of the video. Insisting social distancing in Ireland is unnecessary, Cahill tells viewers the country should exit lockdown completely "within the next week or 10 days", adding that she would "be happy to take responsibility for those actions and be held to account". Cahill goes on to claim those that have recovered from COVID-19 are immune for life, that a combination of vitamins C, D, and zinc will stop most people from developing symptoms, and that hydroxychloroquine will effectively cure victims of the virus. In the latter half of the video, Cahill's pronouncements become increasingly political, with calls for "an inquiry into the media and the politicians" in Ireland, suggesting the country's national broadcaster RTE should have its licence fee revoked. All of the claims made by Cahill and Cullen in the video – such as the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine in treating COVID-19 – have either been debunked or remain subject to ongoing scientific research. Despite being touted by US President Donald Trump as a miracle drug, trials have shown hydroxychloroquine to have little to no impact in treating the virus. Two observational studies, published in the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association, found that from thousands of hospitalized coronavirus patients, those who got the drug did not do any better or worse than those who didn't. The JAMA study also found that those who received hydroxychloroquine combined with the antibiotic azithromycin had a higher rate of cardiac arrest. Additionally, while some initial studies saw promising results from the drug, experts warned that those studies were "limited by their low quality, often enrolling tiny groups of patients or lacking a control group to compare the results against." There has been limited evidence that vitamin supplements, used to boost an individual's immune system, could help fight off infection, the results are far from conclusive. At the same time, there is no substantial proof that a recovered COVID-19 patient will be "immune for life". In a statement released in April, the World Health Organization said there was "currently no evidence that people who have recovered from Covid-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection". And while it is likely that recovered patients will have developed some degree of immunity, there is no consensus on how long it would be likely to last. Facebook launched its "COVID-19 Information Hub" earlier this year, compiling guidance from reliable sources – such as the CDC and WHO – and placing it at the top of every user's news feed. Meanwhile, YouTube says it has been manually reviewing and removing thousands of videos that spread dangerous or misleading coronavirus information. The company has not made clear if Cullen's video meets that threshold. Apparently aware that Big Tech social media companies will struggle to keep his video offline, Cullen told viewers to "download and reupload this video everywhere," adding: "Please do." At the time of writing, at least one other version of the video remained live on YouTube, uploaded by Kerry Baldwin, whose channel focuses "on the philosophical thought of liberty". An unknown number of Facebook users have posted links to the video on Bitchute, a YouTube alternative known for accommodating right-wing vloggers. Approached by Business Insider, the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics sought to distance itself from Prof Cahill, saying the organization has had "no connection" with her since 2006. A spokesperson said: "The work [Prof Cahill] performed at our Institute has no relation to the claims she has made with regards to the pandemic. "The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics distances itself very clearly from them, and we do not want to be associated with any of her claims in any way." Infotagion, an independent fact-checking service cofounded by Damian Collins, former head of the UK's Department for Culture, Media and Sport select committee, said none of Cahill's assertions were credible. John Quinlan, cofounder of Infotagion, said: "When we fact-checked this video we found there was no scientific evidence to support any of her claims. "It's concerning to see how many times this video was shared on social networks. People should always double check the information they are hearing or seeing if it's not from an official source." He added: "Getting the facts right on COVID-19 is literally a matter of life or death" A Facebook spokesperson told Business Insider: "We have removed this video for violating our stringent harmful misinformation policies. "We are taking aggressive steps to stop misinformation and harmful content from spreading on our platforms and have removed hundreds of thousands of pieces of content, both proactively and following user reports." A YouTube spokesperson said: "We're committed to providing timely and helpful information at this critical time, including raising authoritative content, reducing the spread of harmful misinformation and showing information panels, using WHO data and information from local health authorities, to help combat misinformation." Business Insider approached Cullen and Cahill for comment. https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavi...-forever-2020-5

Had a long talk with my bestie last night. He works in the medical field at the Dayton VA, and gets his infodata from HHS and CDC.
Here's what he said about this pandemic:
"If you view the time period of this pandemic, from patient zero to cure/widespread inoculation in terms of a baseball game, we're presently in the bottom of the 2nd inning... and the virus is back up to bat."
He's extremely concerned about the taste of re-opening and stupid human behavior, and says a second wave isn't just likely- it's inevitable.
Bad news always sucks, but I'd rather be informed and prepared.

I fully understand the theory behind it; what I sincerely doubt is the value of it beyond its perceived value. To your analogy: a tissue works because what you are catching in it is larger than the holes in the tissue. To the breathing it in part that i mentioned, that was an example of how it won't stop inbound particles due to their size as a means of pointing out how it stands little to no chance at all of stopping forcefully expelled particles of the same size. Yes, it stops all of those really large globules of spit and saliva, but those same little ones that would casually come inward through a cloth will have absolutely zero trouble passing outward through that cloth. The very same tiny particles that are the reason you would not wear a cloth mask for protection in a hospital or lab are still going to be there. It is for show and as a minimal means of making people feel like they have a little control over the unseen.

My elderly mother went to walmart yesterday wearing her mask and was made uncomfortable by people staring at her for being one of few to wear one. You just can't make this crap up. I am so disgusted by the stupidity in this country.

You have to remember Purp, that yes the virus is very small but it travels in droplets not on it's own and droplets are much bigger. Just saying.

Multiple studies have shown that transmission is almost practically reduced if everyone wore a mask.
Not sure that’ll mean much to you, though.

SOME droplets are much bigger. ONLY the droplets that show up in the laser lightshow test instrument are measured to be reduced.
The small aerosol droplets that are too small to show up in the lasers, are the very same ones that pass through the mask without issue. These are the very droplets that are an issue both inbound and outbound. These are the very same sized particles that - to be crude - let you smell that horrible fart through someone's jeans and underwear halfway across the room. The very same sized particles that travel on a breeze from the car in front of you at the stop light that lets you smell the smoke from the cigarette they are smoking, even when you have your windows up.
Not that this will mean much to those that don't want to look at what the feel-good "science" articles are ignoring.

Also, remember, that if it didn't travel in plenty of droplets smaller than the mask can catch, then your fabric masks would be N100. Period.
Instead, they aren't even rated on the N or P scales. They're just sieves. Literally.

You can blow out a candle from a few feet away. Put on a cloth mask and try to blow out a candle. You’ll have to get much closer. I can’t blow out a lighter that’s 3” from my cloth mask with a good liner. I can’t blow out a lighter/candle at all with my N95 on. Now extrapolate that out to a cough or a sneeze. Would you rather someone with COVID sneeze in a room with or without a mask?

A guy I worked with for 13 years died recently. He'd been sick with kidney cancer. 75 years old.
The obituary says he died of cancer. I'm curious to find out if in the next week or so the cause of death changes to covid.

I am guessing that's the case. Like I said, he had kidney cancer, and had recovered from double pneumonia, although he'd been in a nursing home recovering.
Just yesterday I read that this particular nursing home had NO cases of covid. Had 1 possible case, but patient was tested and was negative.

A work friend of my sister had a grandmother In mid stage dimentia that caught covid and passed about 4-5 days after testing positive. The family felt she had another year or two before the dementia would have been really bad. Her death certificate Said nothing about covid-the family thought that was wrong and wanted it changed to at least dementia with pneumonia caused by covid. Last I heard it wasn’t changed

I can tell you there is far more of that happening than the other way around. And in the early days of this it was being even more under reported. That fact is inconvenient for some.

Not inconvenient for me.
My grandma died Feb. 17, at age 97. Due to heart failure. My guess is, had she lived another month or 2, her death would've been "covid" "related". Not that she was 97, not that she had congestive heart failure for the last Lord knows how many years.

Nah, it isn't. Had she died today? It would undoubtedly be "covid" related. Hence, a 'covid' death, even if it would take the medical profession a week or 3 to determine that.

I don't get the point of your argument. Who gives a flying blank about what is registered as the cause of death? That isn't what is important. Unless, of course, you are trying to make a political statement.
Anyone w/any sense at all knows that we should be practicing safe precautionary measures so we don't catch the virus, or even worse, give the virus to another person.
I really wish those of you who want to make this a political discussion would do so in the Political forum. It's hard to even read this thread anymore because of all the political innuendo.
