I think there are too many people trying their very best to dismiss news that strongly indicates the second wave is already in progress.

j/c Coronavirus Infections Are On The Rise In 21 U.S. States, With Cases Spiking In California, Arizona And North Carolina KEY FACTS 21 states have had recent growth in newly reported cases over the past 14 days, per the Times statistics, though it's important to note that the increase is due in part to some states recently ramping up their testing capacity. California reported its highest one-day increase in cases this past Friday, with 3,593 new cases confirmed. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported the number of individuals hospitalized for Covid-19 reached a record high of 717 on Friday and was at 708 on Saturday. In Arkansas, total coronavirus cases have increased by nearly 30% over just the past week. The number of Covid-19 diagnoses in Arkansas increased by 450 on Saturday, the state's most significant one-day jump. In Arizona, daily case counts have risen steadily since the end of May, with the highest single-day increase coming on June 5. Per Newsweek, the former director of Arizona's health department, Will Humble, told Fox 10 Phoenix that the state's uptick in virus transmission was "predictable" because the state's stay-at-home order expired two weeks earlier. Oregon health officials reported the state's highest single-day increase in Covid-19 cases on Sunday. In addition to the states listed above, Utah, Kentucky, Texas, Michigan, Florida, Tennessee, Washington, South Carolina, Missouri, New Mexico, Idaho, Vermont, Hawaii, Alaska and Montana have all confirmed rising case counts over the past seven days. The overall numbers nationwide look relatively promising, as America's overall daily count of new coronavirus cases has declined steadily in recent weeks and the number of new deaths has continued to curve downward, but that is primarily due to progress in previous hot spots such as Illinois, New Jersey and New York. https://www.forbes.com/sites/tommybeer/2...a/#7339e0c76d5eI did not post the article in its entirety. Only what I felt was pertinent information. I'm curious how many of those states are only just seeing a delayed first spike and how many are seeing a second spike. I know CA was going through it's first spike along with/right behind NY, but that state is so big and diverse that it could just be spreading into the rurals areas now that it's run through the main urban zones.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I actually intended it to mean a second spike in the nation overall. I didn't mean for it to be taken on a state by state basis. I can see where it could have been taken that way though.

See, this was mentioned a couple times early on, and after thinking about it for a while I agree with it.
Looking at CVD numbers as a nationwide whole/total is kinda pointless. States all have a different situation going on, with different governors that are approaching this differently. I think the highest level you can look at it without the numbers telling a misleading story is the state level.

I think there are too many people trying their very best to dismiss news that strongly indicates the second wave is already in progress. Potentially in progress. That's the point of my post that you responded to; to state the need for appropriate companion data to better make sense of the numbers coming in. If more than one variable is changing at a time, but you only focus on one of them while now accounting for variations in the other, your perspective WILL be skewed. Guaranteed. Indisputably. The thing that needs to be determined is how much skewing is happening by the secondary or even tertiary variables changing. A very basic approach. Science 101 - control for your variables.

This is the very reason that early on when projecting the impact on the US it was predicted that we'd have a bunch of separate Wuhan's. Every metropolitan area would vary in magnitude and on its own timeline, and we are very much seeing this bear out.

Have you followed the continued campaign to harass this medical professional? This is what led to her resignation. Nah. Tuned out the jibberish a couple months ago. I'm sure the reaction was similar in every state in the union. That's the way it works when you're in the public eye. Especially in this age of ignorance and hypocrisy. Whiners seem outspoken because they sit behind the comfort of their keyboards, media blows it out of proportion, wash, rinse, repeat, ad nauseam, since 1995. It's not a black eye, merely a sign of the times.

Now is the time for diligence. Those that disregard their own safety are deeply disregarding ours. Stay safe everyone. Mask up. but, for the love of all that is Good in this world... DON'T be the person wearing a mask while driving alone in your car! Don't Be That Person. Be slow to judge. I may see multiple patients in multiple nursing facilities on some days. There are times where my patients are only a couple of miles apart. In these cases I often drive with my mask on. You see, every time I have to touch my mask only places me at greater risk. It also requires multiple applications of hand sanitizer. Once before touching it. Once after. As I’m sure you’re aware, hand sanitizer is not easily come by. Even for a hospice company. Currently I have a bottle of alcohol sanitizer provided by a local distillery. It’s a rare-ish commodity. One which I try to be conscious of its’ use. If I can mitigate frequency in which I touch my mask, and stretch out my supply of hand sanitizer by wearing it for 5-10 minutes in the car, I do. Consider this when you see someone driving with a mask on. Maybe they aren’t the ‘weirdo’ you perceive them to be. Maybe they just saw your neighbor’s mother or grandmother, and are off to do the same for another family. Just sayin.

The thing is, along with the upsurge in actual cases rising, hospital rates and ICU rates are increasing in some of these states. Within time these stats seem to be correlating.

Columbiana county = lots of folks wearing masks.
Mahoning county = lots of selfish folks not wearing masks. Yes and no. I do alot of shopping in Salem. Giant Eagle = almost 100% masked Walmart = no where near that number.(I had to go there to pick up my mom's Rx) Giant Eagle in Canfield = 100% masked Giant Eagle in A-town = better than 50% I have many observations and a few determinations about who is and who isn't wearing a mask. But there is no way I can voice them without sounding like a bigot. Fat white people's lives should also matter.

Those other two can stand on their own, and can help give clarity, but it still stands unequivocally that you just cannot look at a giant upswing in new cases and declare anything at all. You know this.

Austintown/Youngstown looks more like 30 percent wearing masks. Being a fat/old/ white guy I agree with you. You are not now nore have you ever been a bigot. But IMO fat white folks are the worst offenders. Especially those who are older.

I want to the one in Austintown a few times. 40 to 50 percent of customers masked. 10 to 20 percent of the employees wearing their masked correctly. (Hanging under their nose, pulled down under their chin, played with every 5 seconds.

Menards here in town requires a mask. If you don't have one you can buy one at the door. We need more of this right now regardless of who is angers.

At this point I'd guess >80% of people simply don't care about Corona virus anymore because they've moved on. If they don't see it effecting them time after time then there's no need for protection. I remember at the beginning the streets were all empty and everything. Now local parks and walk ways are PACKED. Cars are parking on the grass, one after another because of the overflow. Most people didn't have masks on. I saw it when I drove by today. I'm still wearing my mask if I go in a store or restaurant and have a bottle of alcohol and peroxide in my car. Most of the time the mask is on for a short period of time and then off once I get to my car. It doesn't take that much effort I find.
Find what you love and let it kill you.

However, I would rather be "that person" than the A-hole who doesn't wear a mask in a public setting, such as a store or restaurant.

I wear a mask when I go in to a store. It is hard to maintain space there. I wear it going in to and out of a restaurant, but once seated I take it off. I also carry a sanitizer with me. The way restaurants are spaced out, it feels pretty safe, plus, when I first went to a restaurant after it opened up a bit, I messed up my mask. I could chew my food well enough, but couldn't taste it nor swallow it. I just ended up with a chewed up mess on my plate.

From yesterday's press conference....
Governor Mike DeWine @GovMikeDeWine Region 3, including Dayton: 1.07.
The slight increase that we’re seeing in several parts of the state is visible here. @OHDeptofHealth is keeping an eye on it.
Governor Mike DeWine @GovMikeDeWine Region 4, including Columbus: Briefly topped 1 at the end of May, and now at 0.91
Region 5, including Akron and Youngstown: 0.72 - was highest mid-May and has been declining since.
Region 6, including Cincinnati: 0.8 -- slight increase since the end of May @GovMikeDeWine Regions 7 and 8, southeast: Low at 0.62
Based on other metrics we’re monitoring, some counties in this area are seeing an increase in cases.
